Err...is it normal for my new female hamster to keep squeeking?? As if she is afraid of my male hamster...

in your case (but not all cases of squeeking)
i would think that its telling the male hamster to back off

oohhh means she don't want sex la??

and my male seems to be very ham sap...keep sniffing Lulu's butt..

if she squeak when the other one sniff her butt should indicate that she doesnt like it

my female dog will tell my male dog to back off when he sniff her butt by growling. (she is spayed but the male dog still seems interested)

if the squeak really means asking him to back off.. and he doesnt back off.. and the female tries to defend herself.. things might get ugly

She seldom squeak when he sniffs her butt, but squeaks at random times like...

1) Sampat suddenly appearing in front of her.
2) Sampat stepping on her to cross to the other side (as if there are no other ways)

in that case i think she hasnt warmed up to her environment
or she just get easily scared
you know some ppl they very easy scared.. like got small heart always little bit thing frightened?
but have to keep a close eye on them

i read before of a guinea pig who gets annoyed easily
also same like your lulu but the owner thought its just warming up
after a period of time.. the owner come to realize that its just her personality
maybe a little neurotic and dislike changes
like me,.. i hate inconsiderate ppl who blast music.. purposely squeeze through me when there are bigger space the other side to go through.

Oh, I see...sometimes I would feel funny lo...so much space in between, why step on Lulu just to pass? LOL

i advise u to keep your eye on both of them...there is probability they will fight with each other...separate them if u see any sign of fighting...if lulu becomes too scared to sampat, they might not be able to be friends...

btw.. i remembered you mention that yours was actually russian campbell?
do remember that russian campbell are different species from winter whites
and should not be placed together

But after close observation, I realized Sampat was just an ordinary winter white. SORRY for the misunderstanding before!!

Noruddin - I'll keep an eye on them. But they seem fine this morning. When I'm handfeeding them, Sampat kept sniffing Lulu's face, but she didn't respond. Is that normal?

no response is better result than squeeking... dont worry, if lulu is fine when sampat sniffing(i prefer "kissing" hehe) her, its a good sign...thats mean lulu already familiar with sampat and they can live together...

SO CUTE!! Why is he/she (which?) laying down while eating? Habit?

not really a habbit...but sometimes she eats while laying on her back...i really like when she eats like that...so cute...
