Greetings everybody. I am not sure if this has ever been brought up before but I would like some general views and and opinions regarding Yamaha and Marantz AVRs. I decided to start a new topic so that hopefully I could get some unbiased views as well.

Basically I am going to be making an AVR purchase in the near future and have basically setttled on 2 models. The Yamaha RV-1900 and the Marantz SR6003. Both seem to have received great reviews. I know that the 1900 seems a little more feature packed with a higher price tag while the Marantz appears to be more musical which is an important factor in my decision. Hopefully existing owners of the above as well as others will be able to shed more light on these two units.

Thanks in Advance.

Marantz made in china.Yamaha made in Mal.It is depends with your both ears upon your liking taste as well. Each of them give you different SQ.Marantz sr6003 was been given great review hence features more as well but Yamaha more pricey. You may go for both audition, same speaker setup for both then from here you will decide.

3 HDMI inputs is enough for me. The marantz however has 2 hdmi outputs which might be
more useful.

The fact that marantz is made in china won't dissuade me because I have owned marantz stuff before and their quality has not been a let down so far. In fact I am sort of leaning more toward the 6003 but just want to make sure that I don't end up regretting because this avr is the first step of my ht upgrade and will need to last as well as be able to accomodate future upgrades which both seem to me more than capable of doing.

Well yes it appears that way depending on the model in question. I was however hoping more along the lines of build, sq, features, useability etc.

if there was a clear line of superiority.. then every one would be lining up to have it.. but seems like many has their own preference shared evenly at entry to mid level AVRs like, denon, onkyo, yammy, marantz, pioneer... take your pick.. smile.gif

Let me try a different approach. Any process of elimination that you went through before narrowing it down to these two specific brands and models?

u can't go wrong with either. yammy has a lot of dsp which i never use. i only use movie mode or pure direct. it got good bass, more dynamically sounded especially with sound effect but it also suffer with wattage drop when all channels fully utilized.

marantz makes in-movie music sounded very good. a little bit lame on the bass but the wattage only drop a bit when all channel used.

i never seriously listen to 1900 but i do like 1800 very much. i go with marantz bcoz its much cheaper and being a yammy user before, i just wanna try something different. never regret the purchase.

just go a&l and audition both. pick what ur hearing like smile.gif

one advantage the Yamaha avr has over the Marantz is the bluetooth compatibility.....btw, is it higher wattage = stronger bass?

Of all the brands within this range, the Yamaha and the Marantz both gave convincing 2 CH audio performance. The others were good but not to my liking. Music is very important to me and I cannot afford to be having two separate systems for music and av. I must say however I found the Marantz to be better with music compared to the Yamaha. The RV-1900 has a higher power rating than the SR6003 and with the 24bit Burr Brown DACs the music was sweet. Somehow though the Marantz was still more musical.

Having said all that however, the RV-1900 did have more features and yes the bass was stronger which I love but living in an intermediate terrace with wife, child and not so big hall, the extra power and bass is a bit redundant BUT its always nice to know you have it should you need it in the future. So really I am trying to get the best of both worlds (music and surround) which is a tall order in this price band I know but I believe either one of these AVRs will suffice. Its just that I can't decide which one will be equally good in bed as well as the kitchen.

If music is very important for you then you should consider at stereo valve amp.Depends which range of tubes that you would prefer to and yr taste.300B tube are good for vocal and u can get for used set while KT88 tubes are punchy.EL34 also can consider as this tube are common easly to get hence EL34 tubes not expensive.
Just an advice.

Ahh.. then I think you have answered your own question. The 6003 is what I would recommend you then. Power isn't everything, especially when it comes to music, unless you feng tau type. Then again, the 6003 is not too shabby either, and its great for movies too. Bear in mind the AVR is just a halfway journey to sonic heaven, choosing the appropriate speakers makes it complete. Good luck smile.gif
