Thanks a lot to Faris for the new thread. Really like the team-sheet.

I'm really hoping Pep will include Thiago and Assulin in the list for the new season. I prefer them over V. Sanchez anytime.

QUOTE
Crowds confirm Barca’s drawing power

The 93137 spectators who attended Barca’s game in LA was a clear indication of the popularity Barca enjoy in the States, The next two games in Seattle and San Francisco look set to confirm the club’s drawing power in the U.S.

It’s certainly not a normal sight to see so many fans turn out for a “soccer” match in the land of Gridiron and Baseball, as can be understood by a look at the average gate in the MSL – just 15515 aficionados, but Barca are pulling the crowds in like nobody else as the American fans flock to see the European champs.

Following the example of 2006

In the summer of 2006, Barca, Frank Rijkaard’s team toured Mexico and America having just taken the Champions and Spanish League titles and they filled all four stadiums in Monterrey, Los Angeles, Houston and New York.

The LA game was a sell out against Chivas at the Los Angeles Coliseum with 92650 spectators attending the game to break the previous record attendance of 92216 who’d watched LA Galaxy and Tampa Bay at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

More fans than Chelsea-Inter game

Obviously, European football is enormously popular in America and has become a favourite place for visiting teams to Tour. The recent Chelsea-Inter Milan game as part of the I World Football Challenge drew 81224 fans to the Rose Bowl, but nothing has been on the scale of this Barca Tour so far.

‘94 World Cup and ‘84 Olympics

The 1994 World Cup in the USA saw the biggest crowds ever for the game in the country with (94194) attending the final between Brazil and Italy at the Rose Bowl and three other games beat the number who turned up to see Barca on Sunday: 93869 saw the USA vs Columbia game, 93869 attended the hosts match against Rumania and 93194 saw the Cameroon vs Sweden game. In all , the average gate at the Rose Bowl during the tournament was 89478.

The same venue also hosted the semi final and final of the Olympic Games in 1984 and 97000 saw the semi final whilst 101799 saw the final between France and Italy.

Obviously Barca are not as popular in Asia as EPL teams, but we certainly are growing big in the US. Hopefully they will tour Asia as well for next year.

Espanyol just lost their captain this morning. Dani Jarque died of heart failure.

We drew 1-1 Chivas Guadalajara just now. Our goal was scored by Bojan. I only managed to catch last 10 minutes of the game. Its good to see our youngsters were very energetic while pressing their opponents. Surely one of them will get plenty of chances next season.

On another news, Filipe could be allowed to leave Depor for free this summer. I'm not sure why, but Barca is currently considering to grab him if our negotiations with Valencia for Mata is unsuccessful.

LOL. Yeah, we will face Athletic this weekend, yet this thread is so quiet. Guessing our starting 11 for this match should be very interesting, as we are already having our first minor injury crisis right now. Ibra, Henry, Iniesta, and Messi are all doubtful for the match. While Milito is finally pain free.

So, will we finally get to see Jeffren and Pedro playing their first full season? hmm.gif hmm.gif

Bojan + 40m for cesc?
Erm, thats quite expensive isn't it?
And i rank Bojan quite highly, maybe on par with cesc..cesc is a bit overrated dun ya think?
*
Yea, that is expensive. Barca is only willing to deal with 30 million euros.

Naah, Cesc is no longer overrated, since everybody have realized what kind of playmaker Iniesta is made of brows.gif brows.gif brows.gif But it is understandable when Wenger demands such an overpriced offer for his captain.

I don't think Pep ever considers of using 4-4-2 formation, because he never tried it in friendlies. He will stick with 4-3-3, but he may change all the tiny tiny details.

Masch and Cesc are too expensive, period. We are not getting any of them. I think Pep is considering to move Marquez or Pique to play further up in Toure's place during the ACN. Maybe that's why he wants a new CB. CBs are cheaper than midfielders, so they are more affordable.

QUOTE(myhotgary2 @ Aug 16 2009, 01:27 PM)
Goalkeepers: Valdés, Pinto

Defenders: Alves, Puyol, Piqué, Abidal, Maxwell, Muniesa, Fontàs

Midfielders: Xavi, Touré, Keita, Busquets, Jonathan dos Santos, Gudjohnsen

Forwards: Pedro, Bojan, Henry, Jeffren

*
Looking at the match squad, I think Pep will bring some surprises to the starting line-up. Abidal plays as LB and Maxwell as LW perhaps?

QUOTE
Rafa: “Muniesa is a player with some rare qualities”

FC Barcelona young defender Marc Muniesa has only recently been plucked from Juvenil A to appear for the first team, but coach Pep Guardiola has begun to take on the ambitious, but achievable, task of turning Muniesa into a pillar of Barça.

However Pep will not be alone in his project, as FC Barcelona and Mexico defender Rafa Márquez has offered his help to the coach.

Talking of Muniesa, Rafa did not hold back on his praise for the youngster.  “He is a football player with some rare qualities . A few months ago I spoke with Pep and I asked him if he could leave me to work with Marc, so I can help with everything he needs to polish out his errors”.

The entire program is designed so that the defender, who is just 17 years of age, can be the natural replacement for Rafa.

“I have already said that he has some innate qualities,” the Mexican pointed out.

“In spite of his young age, he is usually very well positioned on the field and we have already seen that he has an excellent touch. We should not rush, be he has everything to be a great player”.

Pep and Rafa seem to share the same philosophy of football.

“I have a style of play that I picked up when Lavolpe trained me [at Atlas in Mexico],” Rafa explained.

“And you already know that Pep has said on many occasions that he has a certain admiration for [Lavolpe]. In his day he insisted on working the ball forward from the back, improving his touch of the ball, and having more tactical options against defences of three, four or five players. It is a way of enriching the players that Pep likes”.

Muniesa has so far featured in all 5 of Barça’s preseason games. Pep sees such qualities in the youngster that he called Muniesa into the first squad straight from Juvenil A, rather than wait for him to follow the natural progression of being promoted from Juvenil A to Barça Atletic, the youth team just below the first team.

Yess!! We won at a traditionally very hostile venue.

Well, definitely we were not up to our usual standard, as there were some important players gone missing. But I would say that we have done our job just nicely. Oh BTW, nice goal from Pedro rclxms.gif rclxms.gif Both Pedro and Jeffren have the skills required, they just need more experience to play at this level.

And finally, Pep should take a serious look on Alves' temperament. It has cost Alves' chance to play in the UCL final, so Alves should learn from those mistakes. Pep should guide him. Just now, he was the main target for the booing opponents fans.

QUOTE(myhotgary2 @ Aug 17 2009, 05:56 AM)
Can i know who played? and the formation?
Anyways kudos to Xavi and Pedro...
Big boo to astro who increased price of sports package but not improved service. Cant even watch such a match. Shame on astro
*
Formation:

Valdes

Alves - Pique - Puyol - Abidal

Xavi - Toure - Keita

Pedro - Bojan - Henry

So its still a 4-3-3 formation.

witout any doubt Messi will win Forward category, according to performance and medal either  Xavi or Iniesta will grab Midfielder title, i pick Vidic for defender but where is our solid rock captain?

Yea, quite surprised Pique gets into the list. IMHO, Puyol will give more fight towards Vidic for the award.

And here we go, our VALDES is also nominated!! I am really happy!!! Surely he has proven that his critics are all wrong.

He broke his finger while playing a tour match in USA for Inter, how could you forget?

Talking about his hand, I remember a news about him, his hand, and Pep laugh.gif laugh.gif Nobody shared it here iirc.

QUOTE
Ibrahimovic Hands Pep Guardiola A Fright As Barcelona Train

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave Pep Guardiola a scare in training for Barcelona when he attempted an audacious overhead kick forgetting about the injured hand that required surgery only last week.

The Swede leapt into the air to connect with a ball during a practice session in Seattle and came down on his left arm in a move that left the coach gasping.

"No Ibra! Not that!" Guardiola was quoted as shouting at Ibrahimovic as he rose rather sheepishly to his feet.

Despite appearing to be fine, coach Juanjo Brau insisted that the striker left the field to allow medics to inspect the hand that has kept the player out of action in the United States.

Ibrahimovic joined Barca from Inter last week in a mammoth swap deal for Samuel Eto'o, but has yet to play after sustaining a broken bone in his hand during his last game for the Serie A outfit.

The Blaugrana medics insisted that he had an operation to ensure the bone healed and pencilled in the Trofeo Joan Gamper game against Manchester City on August 19 as a possible debut date.

Its an old news though.

And for those who missed the Athletic game, somebody have been really kind to upload full match video in youtube. Watch it fast, before it get deleted smile.gif smile.gif The first video:

Yea, I wonder does Txiki realize that he's been doing his jobs awfully slow?

He asked for Cesc, Masch and Vidic when their respective clubs have already earned money in current transfer window. And now Chygryinskiy has already played for Shakhtar in UCL. doh.gif doh.gif

LOL, what a great match. Even though we lost 1-0.

Ibra was good, but it was apparent that he was short of fitness. And I hope he will learn some pressuring skills from Pep as well. Bojan is certainly better than him in that aspect.

Overall, its a good exercise for the team. Pep should be concerned about Iniesta and Marquez, who missed the entire preseason preparations, though.

Like to see Toure marked Toure when Barca take corner kicks. tongue.gif tongue.gif

IMHO, Toure - Keita - Busquets combinations will also deal similar damages. Toure is so dangerous while he played more adventurously.

any possibility we bring Cesc this winter?
i really love to watch Xavi-Cesc-Iniesta trio
*
I will say the chance is near to zero percent. Pep has said that we can't afford Cesc, so I think this has made things clearer. Its just that the media have been circulating those rumors again and again.

I think it is ridiculous for Wenger to criticize our interest. Saying our interest is politically motivated, WTH? Isn't it logical for other teams have footballing interests in his best players? Doesn't he realize that he is the one who poached our youngsters without a single penny spent? Not one, he already poached two. And there are rumors that his scouts keep coming to our youth matches. Maybe the reason of his outbursts is because Cesc is indeed unsettled ATM, albeit not publicly. He shouldn't be angry with us if Cesc is not loyal to them. Go get angry with Cesc instead.

If any club bid for our Messi or Iniesta, we know we aren't going to curse people, since we already know how loyal our cantera products are. They have talents, we have BOTH talents and loyalty.

Agree that those 6 goals > La Liga + UCL. Surely our treble will be jotted down in history. But the win in Bernabeu will definitely be remembered even after next 50 years. Seriously. happy.gif happy.gif

i love messi 1st goal.
and we got alot of chances.

Agreed. But to be honest, that is his habit to score like that, so its really2 an old stuff tongue.gif

We did well, and, in the first half, so did Athletic. The main problem was Ibra was not fit enough, so we didn't pressurize them as we used to. But there are some flashes of brilliant plays between Messi/Maxwell and Ibra. I'm sure once Ibra gets use to our system and 100% fit, he will be another monster for us.

For now, let he opens his bandage on his hand first. Playing with freshly healed bones have bothered him on the pitch for sure.

Dude, the answer is simple. Do you know what kind of rivalry we have with RM? IMHO, it is fiercer than Man Utd vs Man City, or Liverpool vs Everton. So not many players played for both Barca and RM, let alone been transferred directly between both clubs.

2nd title of the year. 4 to go guys tongue.gif

Puyol was our super-hard rock in our defence. He was outstanding.

Congratulations to Pedro for the goal. Still our goalscorers are all home grown. Hopefully Ibra will get his goals soon. He is absolutely not on top condition, and the condition of the pitch didn't help much either.
