Let’s start with the most recent news: the transfer of Chygrynskiy. What triggered that?
It was a necessary transfer for the club due to the club’s lack of funds. We had to cover some short term expenditures and €15 million was a good price.

He was one of the most expensive signings in Barca’s history. He barely played during the year he was here and ended up costing €10 million. Doesn’t that seem like a bit much?
There are players that cost €15 million plus their salary and have never played a single game. I’m referring to Keirrison although he hasn’t been sold.

Was signing Chygrynskiy an error?
In football you can err on two out of ten signings. People aren’t machines. Chygrynskiy isn’t a bad player but right now we needed the money. His transfer had nothing to do with his footballing abilities.

And Guardiola was okay with the transfer?
He’s a homegrown coach that understood that his transfer was necessary for the club.

Pep said that Chygyrysnkiy would play for Barca for as long as he was coach…
He can have ideas about the sporting aspect of the club but he knows that the necessities of the club come first and are more important than those of the team.

Yes. The problem is that his signing has been front page news and that is the worst thing that can happen because you end up overpaying.

It’s possible as long as Arsenal doesn’t go crazy and ask for an exorbitant fee.

We’ve been talking about Cesc for three months. Is it now or never?
Yes, it’s now or never. We’ll try and complete the operation quickly. We won’t draw it out. I’ll try and speak with Wenger in South Africa. We’ll see what happens. If they ask for €50 million we’ll say “goodbye”. If they ask for €30 million we’ll accept.

Is there a maximum you’re willing to spend?
Yes but I won’t say because that would only help Arsenal in the negotiations. We’ll never pay the €50-60 million that I’ve seen published in the press.

And how is the player doing?
I imagine he’s nervous, I would be too.

How much money does the club have for new signings?
We’ll have €50 million plus whatever we make on outgoing players. It’ll be like that every year from now on.

We arrived to a club that had liquidity problems. We had to apply for a loan in order to pay the salaries of the players. They had yet to be payed for the last month. We’ll fix that with a €150 million euro loan. The banks know that we have a business plan that will allow them to recoup the €150 million. The club isn’t bankrupt because it generates income.

Laporta and company announced an €11 million profit and now you say that we had to get a loan.  Explain that to us.

It’s the truth but the members shouldn’t worry. We have to resolve the problem which can be done in two ways: to gain money by selling Chygrysnkiy and/or applying for a loan. THe previous board had already started the process. We are confronting the same problem but plan to solve it in a different way. His idea was to raise the member fee by 15% every year but we didn’t want to do that so we came up with another plan. They knew that we needed this loan. We’ll hopefully sign it later this week.

How can we be in debt if Barca is worth €400 million and is the highest grossing club in the world?
We’ve spent more than we’ve made.

On what?
A little of everything. Basically there was never a good budget planning.

Let’s talk about Cruyff. He  was asked to return his ‘President of Honor’ title. Do you think this subject was handled well or should it have been done in another way? Has it dirtied the image of the club?
No. We haven’t changed anything that we’ve said since the campaign started. The members need to decide.

But the image of Cruyff returning the symbol to the club offices was sad. Is that how you see it? Do you like how it was handled?
No, things should have gone differently. Cruyff is a symbol for the club. We need to fix this situation for the good of the club and the fans.

What needs to be done?
We have to start the process over in a more correct and ordered way.

What do you mean?
The statutes of the club should have been changed to allow for this position.

So you’re saying it was Laporta’s fault?
The process wasn’t started in the correct way so it needs to be redone from scratch. If you build a house with a bad foundation it’s bound to fall. This is a similar case.

What needs to happen first? A meeting with Cruyff or putting it up for debate within the Assembly?
He needs to be treated how he deserves. The same as Ramallets, Rexach and a few others. With the same love.

We will. We’ll have to see what he wants.

Lastly, have you talked with Jaume Roures about the Mediapro contract?
Yes and he’s calmed me down. They gave us a verbal agreement that we’d receive payment by July 15. We hope it happens.
