Mates,

I am planning to set up a home A/V system. What ( which brand / setup / 5.1/7.1 / wireless / or anything ) would you suggest for super excellent sound quality?
I have some suggestions of Bose, but it comes with a price tag...am a noob on this topic...need something with value of money
Also projector etc, which would be the best ?

Would appreciate your kind help on this.

Rgds.

#1 Stay away from Bose, unless you are willing to spend a lot for little return

#2 Try and audition as many things as you can and find out how much they cost. This is helpful if you have no idea how much things can cost and cannot estimate a budget

#3 Build a budget from there

OR build a budget first and listen to as many systems within your range as you can.

#4 take time to get comfortable with your choices. it can be a big investment, even if you can afford Bose.

You'll hear everyone give their recommendations of their favourite brands etc, but only your ears and eyes can tell you what will make you happy in the long run.

One thing i have found out in the longer term is that the excitement of watching movies often recedes after some time. And if you don;t have a separate stereo setup, you end up using your system more for listening to music. (Also, with the correct equipment you can start listening to surround music)

So while picture quality is important, sound quality is what will bring the most from your system.

Thank you so much mates. Alright if its the budget...not more then RM 5~7k....lets put it there at a max. Any suggestions ? Tks broz.

Thanks for your replies ( I have noted it down )...very interesting indeed. I am glad that Bose is a stay away thing...at least if i have a few good options for the budget, would really appreciate it.

Tks

What items do you want your 5-7k budget to cover?

a) 5.1 speaker system?
b) AV receiver?
c) Display (e.g. TV or projector)? Saw you mentioned projector earlier.

If you're just talking about items a and b then your budget would allow you to get some entry-mid level stuff. If you wanna include c inside then have to juggle a bit more.

Rm 5 ~ 7 k without projector smile.gif Tks bro. Sorry for the confusion.
Maybe you can help recommend system for 2 Ranges:
1) RM 5k ~ 7k
2) RM 7k ~ 12k
for speaker and A/V system only. The projector on a later date. I better get the sound engineering done this time with the budget.

5.1 or 7.1 ?

Tks.

Oh, forgot to add one more component, the source player (in this case I assume u want a blu ray player).

For the moment I say stick to 5.1 first since most movies are still 5.1. But get a 7.1 capable receiver and you can always add another pair of surround speakers later to become 7.1.

For 5-7k budget, I think you can allocate 1k for the player, 3k for the 5.1 speakers and 3k for the AV receiver.

For 7-12k budget, maybe 1-2k for the player, 6-7k for 5.1 speakers and 4-5k for the AV receiver.

As for more specific component suggestions, I'll let others chime in while I'm also thinking what would be good.

Sub : Velodyne Impact 10
Amp : Yamaha 665

Add another Bluray player : Pana BD60 (RM900). Just nice for an entry level system

4 me it is Onkyo 876 around Rm5K. Onkyo no 2 taiko in its avr range. It will beat most other avr in team of feature & power. smile.gif Or if money no problem get the Denon AVC! rclxms.gif
As for spk try to have a 7.1 set up. Yes I know now most BD is still on 5.1 but u can always use Onkyo THS 7.1 sur mode & the effect is there. Very syok if u got BD with 7.1 sound ( most liongate bd ). biggrin.gif
Oh one added bonus, u can show off to ur friend/gust when ur 7.1 HT set up! tongue.gif rclxms.gif

I think 5 K would get you the Atom Monitor v5 System from Paradigm

4x Atom Monitor
1x CC190
1x PDR-10

or whatever version of the center and subwoofer is currently available from Asia Sound

here's a review of the v3 system and other reviews of the v5 Atom monitor
