Hi Guys,

I just got my Blackberry activated using Maxis Entry level-RM40. Yippie!!!

But i got 2 question here.

1st
Is there any charges to use YM/MSN/BB Msgr? Or it is actually free to use as much as u want? What i understand before is that the YM/MSN/BB Msgr will be charge if i exceed the 5MB. But when i call the Maxis CS, the CS told me that the YM/MSN/BB Msgr is free to use as much as i want and it wont efect my 5MB limit. But when i call Maxis CS again to check with another CS, he mentioned that i will actually get charged if the my YM/MSN/BB Msgr usage hits the limit of 5MB. So can anyone confirm this? Which one is correct?

2nd
What i know is that the Facebook application will use my data plan - 5MB. But is there possibilities that it will charge to SMS? Coz after 4 days, i've check my unbilled amount and the charges is RM15 already. And when i checked with CS they said that i have not exceed the limit. Most of the charges if for SMS. And as i remember i dont use that much SMS. Any idea on this?

Sorry coz i still new with this BB thingy..Need your expert advice..

Thanks in advance..

If I'm not mistaken, you will get charge when you finish your 5mb usage, and it finishes very fast if you heavily IM

The question now is whether Celcom is able to differentiate between BIS data and TCP data? I know that Maxis were not able to do that when it had the BIS Lite package for RM20 per 1mb. Everybody I know who used it never got charged more than RM20 per month, and that is including both BIS and TCP data. That package has since been replaced by the RM40 for 5mb Entry BIS package.

If I'm not mistaken, Maxis will capped individual e-mails to up to 32kb per e-mail only. Considering that if you received a very small size email each time, then you won't be charged more data usage.

Facebook, on the other hand, might be tricky because you might use larger data usage for image loads.

No they don't. There is no capping in emails. The only cap is in downloading emails and that is set in the phone and not the telco so that you do not download so much if you are not going to read it. Most are set between 20-30kb for email headers and the first few lines of the email. As you read it, BB downloads the rest of the email for you.

most of the email are compressed to 2k from RIM server before sent to your blackberry, not 32k. unless you want to read more about that email. smile.gif

Hi Guys,

Maxis has just replied to my quiries about blackberry services. Below is the reply

"Thank you for contacting Maxis.

We wish to inform you that the Blackberry Messenger is free for our Blackberry users. However, other application which uses the data connection will be included under the 5MB which is the entitlement for Entry Level package. Pay per use charge, which is 1sen per kb applies should the 5MB quota exceeds.

On your other query, Facebook application does not fall under Short Messaging Service (SMS). This application also uses data connection.

Hope the above would clarify your concerns. Please do contact us at 1800 821 123 or 123 from your Maxis Mobile should you require further assistance.

Thank you. "

So all this while i have been told a wrong information by a different Maxis CS. That shouldnt happened. And i fell that it is very weird. Hopefully Maxis can train their CS properly to provide a correct info to users. I will be waiting my pro-rated bill on the 10th and will see how the charge me. I mostly used YM/MSN/BBM and i can tell that i use it quite alot..Maybe around 3 hours daily and a little bit of facebook.
