Catalyst 11.8 Preview 2 Released on 08/08/2011, Driver version = 8.880.8.0000. Since it's a good number, let's test it out:

To install, must use Mobile mod version. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4065596

Comparison:

Catalyst 11.5b:
- 3dmark06 (stock clock): 7826
- 3dmark11 (OC 774/1113): 1454

Catalyst 11.6 (WHQL)
- 3dmark06 (stock clock): 7622
- 3dmark11 (OC 774/1113): 1455
- Resident Evil 5 (Fixed): 60.1 FPS
- Resident Evil 5 (Vari): 63.1 FPS

Catalyst 11.7 (Unofficial)
- 3dmark06 (stock clock): 7766
- 3dmark11 (OC 774/1113): 1446
- Resident Evil 5 (Fixed): 60 FPS
- Resident Evil 5 (Vari): 62.7 FPS

Catalyst 11.8 Pre
- 3dmark06 (stock clock): 7755
- 3dmark11 (OC774/1113): P1442
- Resident Evil 5 (Fixed): 60.2 FPS
- Resident Evil 5 (Vari): 62.7 FPS

Catalyst 11.8 Pre2
- 3dmark06 (stock clock): 7768
- 3dmark11 (OC774/1113): P1441
- Resident Evil 5 (Fixed): 59.4 FPS
- Resident Evil 5 (Vari): 63 FPS

Conclusion: Detected slight improvement, especially on older game. No changes detected with RE5. I will use this drive till official 11.8. smile.gif

sweat.gif why cowithgun choose Catalyst 11.8 WHQL and its the lowest fps compare to others  unsure.gif

LOL! I thought no one will read what I post! You are the sharp one.

Truth is, I only ran those benchmark once. So, if the difference is small, it's probably due to external factors. To be able to get a better benchmarking, I guess I must reboot the notebook, wait 5 minutes for all delayed services to complete. Run the benchmark. Need to do this 3 times to get an average score. Need to do that for all benchmark... that's a lot of work!

The idea is to chose a better Catalyst driver since there is at least 1 every month. For instance, if there is a preview driver with no noticeable performance improvement, i'd stick with WHQL driver. if the new Catalyst has noticeable performance drop, i'd stick with previous Catalyst. laugh.gif

Now running Cat 11.8:

- 3dmark06: 7664
- Resident Evil 5 (fixed): 60.1 FPS

Waiting for Cat 11.9 WHQL. Main attraction supposed to be able to start Catalyst Control Center much faster... other than further performance improvement

Hmm... can't detect any improvement in this 2 benchmarking, but starting Catalyst Control Center is definitely faster!
