QUOTE(Wan @ Jul 23 2009, 10:14 AM)

It's just a number. Anderson got #8, but is not a regular. Rooney-Berba will be first choice, and Owen will have Tevez's role last season, which isn't bad at all. He will get plenty of games. It's been a while since we have a striker that actually is a natural in the penalty box.

Great number comes with great responsibility. I still wanna believe that its not just a number. I hope SAF and Owen himself proves me right. icon_rolleyes.gif

People called Owen as injury prone. But isn't his injury is the same injury Rooney and Beckham had, broken metatarsal? And Beckham in his first season in Galaxy also getting continues injuries, because they rush him in to play for the team. I think it is the same problem rely to Owen, his predecessor club always rush him in to play before he fully recover and that is why he became injury prone. If he get enough treatment, and enough time to recover if injured, he should be able to run like Rooney and Beckham now.

Make sense, isn't it?

Owen won't be a regular for sure. Got Berba-Rooney ahead of him. He will still have a big role for us though.. see Tevez last season.

He got 2 really bad seasons(first 2 seasons) at Newcastle. After that looking at the stats, he seemed OK playing a lot of games for them. He's not injury prone like Saha where he would miss a lot of games and break down every time he comes back. Hopefully that will be the case for us in his time here.

Thing about Owen is he might prove very useful in tight games, where defences are compact and the game is only going to be decided by the odd goal. I see him as an impact player, coming off the bench when we're looking for goals, but Fergie could surprise us and start him in big games, esp in Europe. Could mean Rooney being shifted to the left again though, which would suck.

I think the reason SAF gave Owen no. 7 shirt is to inspire him to shine with United, and not just playing as a backup striker or first choice sub. I'm damn sure he will be playing every game next season and i can say that he will be playing the most game in one season for the first time in his career.

For someone who's given no. 7 will not be expected to warm the bench. SAF knows better than the rest of us. I admit its a big gamble, but he is someone worth betting on.
*
the reason no.7 is so famous in Man Utd because of the previous owner, Cantona, Beckham and Ronaldo
SAF can simply give Owen any number, but due to marketing reason, they gave him no.7

It's not just marketing. It's the only available 'big' number left since all the others have been taken.

I for one would hope that Owen will start as a regular, maybe only in big games like Premier League and Champions League where the trophies really count. I love watching him.

Added on July 23, 2009, 2:45 pmBy the way, how did you guys know where are they going and such! Sigh I'm very very emo right now. I dreamt of their players every night before the real match because I've been wanting to see them so desperately.
