Hi Guys, anyone of you use screen protector for Macbook Pro? Is the screen easily get scratches? Due to the screen is glossy I am afraid that it will get scratch if wipe using cleaning clothes provided. Any comments?

Not yet getting my Macbook Pro. Hopefully during pc fair will get some good deals. Currently just look out for the accessories needed.

Besides screen, how about body protection? Is Speck See-Thru Satin good? Will it scratch the body if always put on and off for cleaning once a week? Should I get the Speck See-Thru Satin or just get the sleeve will do?

Hope Macbook Pro owner can give some advice. Thank you very much. icon_question.gif

Thanks everyone for the advice.

In this case, I should spend the money to upgrade the RAM and HDD or purchase necessary software. BTW, is iWork enough for all types of document reading or need MS Office for Mac? Price is few hundred differences though. hmm.gif

The reason why I wanted to wait for pc fair is not because of sales for Macbook Pro but the shop will give voucher or free gift sometimes. Since pc fair is just few weeks from now, I should wait and see what they offer tongue.gif

normally Macs got no good offers on PC fairs...most of the time the free stuff are junks anyway.

screen protector is not needed, but a body protector (like speck, invisible shield, or both like me hehe) is a must to prevent awful scratches!

chewlf iwork is good but apart from keynote for presentations, i still prefer word n excel for text editing and spreadsheet. still a long way for iwork. of course this depends on ur needs.

RAM and HDD, well, upgrade if u need more. prices for these stuff will go down, so no point in buying it expensive now if u dont need it
*
Hi dvlzplayground,

Since you use Speck, can you share with me? Is it really ok to use Speck? Actually I like Speck See-Thru Satin but I also read some review said that the dirt inside the case will scratch the body. Do you take out and clean it once in a while? Need your real experience advice. notworthy.gif

Probably I will buy Moshi palmguard to protect the palm rest area from scratching tongue.gif

Thanks.

im using the moshi palmguard as well. highly recommended despite the price hehehe wink.gif

okay yeah i had some dirt inside that scratched my mbp. i used to take it out n clean inside maybe once a week, but then still got dirt inside n scratched it. also, bcuz of the frequent take out / pasang of the speck, some of the clips broke off sad.gif. in the end i applied invisible shield, put on the speck n never take it off anymore hehe
*
How much did you buy the Moshi palmguard? Where did you buy it? I am yet to check out the price. Regarding Speck, I guess I need to think twice since the dirt inside will scratch the body. No point if it will still scratch the body. Maybe invest in better sleeve. hmm.gif

RM140 from garage sales. i think the best way is to get invisible shield la for scratches... if using sleeve can still get scratches when it's not in the sleeve ;p
*
Invisible shield is hard to apply. I got BodyGuardz on my iPod Touch. Not really nice after stick. Maybe skill no good. tongue.gif

iWork is usefull. but if u save your work in *.ppt, some of the effects and fonts will be gone.
and if u save ur work from PAGES and wanted to print it out, either save it in pages form *for apple to open* or pdf format *for pc*
cuz if u use pc's MS word to open, it looks abit cuckoo.

my opinion =)

but neways, i still love iwork. i know how to handle it now that i dun need to edit again in ms ppt. (ms word)
*
If let say we just want to be able to read those format from Microsoft when ppl sending in email to us, will iWork capable to handle that?

yeah really is damn hard...i cant manage to apply it perfectly myself haha. well at least it protects...thats the most important thing

for simple documents, maybe letters etc, the document u make in iWork saved as .doc would appear normally in Office 2007. but for more complex stuff such as reports with lots of formatting and stuff, dont bet on it. not to say iWork...even Office 2008 for Mac sometimes doesnt turn out right in Office 2007. the best way is to use virtualization like parallels desktop or vmware fusion to install windows and Office 2007 on it. thats the only way to be sure.

of course, another way is to save to PDF from iWork...but then people cant edit it (if that's important)
*
I think iWork will do for me since MS office for Mac also has the flaw. Where do you all get the iWork? I saw Apple store online has selling cheaper if bundle with MacBook purchase. Not sure can get the same discount when buying MacBook pro in retail store.

around 8-9GB i'm using now.

Thanks for the information.
Are you using 2GB RAM or upgraded to 4GB?

Saw the answer in your another thread. You are using 2GB RAM. In this case, if I buy MB/MBP, I will upgrade to 4GB because I need to use bootcamp and photoshop as well.

Mine arrived at Subang for custom clearance rather than straight to Penang. It seems like Apple has realized that there will be clearance delay if send to Penang. tongue.gif

When I bought the Speck, they have 3 colors, red, yellow and purple. Didn't see any black color. It also has the Speck hard shell type but I like the soft touch finishing so bought the Satin.

Anyone know whether if using Speck SeeThru, can I still put on Moshi palm guard? Thinking of getting palm guard as well.

I have checked that my new MBP come with OS X version 10.6. Do I need to update to 10.6.2?

For me, I will go with MBP. Firstly is the aluminum body which is more reliable to me. Secondly if you go to the shop and look at the white macbook, you will see that the area around keyboard and palm rest become dirty tongue.gif and it is not easy to clean with that kind of material.

Regarding the processor speed, it's depend on what kind of activities you are performing. For me, I will use my MBP for picture editing, so I opt for 2.53 and 4GB RAM. For HDD, it can be upgraded easily in future. I need SD card slot because my camera is using SD card. Firewire port will be used to connect to external hdd for backup and transfer data. Of course, to you maybe these 2 are not necessary and you still can purchase external card reader and use USB port.

When i purchase my MBP I bought together the iWork which can read MS document. It is cheaper to bundle the iWork with your MBP purchase. MS Office for Mac is definitely more expensive than iWork.

I have installed window 7 in my MBP mainly for PPS drool.gif and it works extremely fine.

The final decision is yours. Do more research and pick the one suit you and within your budget.
