I'm contemplating between the new Macbook unibody and the Macbook Pro 13" too... Both are good and almost equal in terms of specs but the aesthetics are not on the same par of course. I'm a Windows user and I want to expose myself to the world of Mac. So I thought, should I get a robust and very well-established laptop for the price of RM4499 or get a training wheel version of it at the cost of RM3599? Which is a wiser investment? I already have a Vaio FW laptop but so far I'm annoyed by the constant bugs that give me headaches. It is also quite big and heavy and it's hard for me to carry it along with my books to lecture class. I might keep it as a desktop replacement though, because that's how it's described in the first place

The Macbook Pro 13" is more portable and looks sleek. The Macbook white is more pocket friendly and have the same specs. Either one could be a good portable notebook but which one...?

Hey, thanks for the reply, I've read a lot of reviews on the Macbook and Macbook Pro 13". Some are good reviews while some are not so much, but overall, both are good laptops. I'm planning to get mine from Machines at JB because I'm studying there. And I think I wanna get a Macbook Pro 13" biggrin.gif

Though there are some reports that made me skeptical though. Some say that the WiFi signal on the MBP is not that good because of the metal chassis. And it tends to get really hot.

The MB... well, the polycarbonate chassis is definitely not scratch proof but at least it won't dent and stuff. Too bad it doesn't have an SD card slot, I'll be using that a lot since I prefer transferring the photos from my camera using the SD card directly.

Oh well, either one will be good, I'll just let the seller sway me into buying either one, haha. MB and MBPs are just like an Ixus... when style meet substance... biggrin.gif

Thanks guys, I think I'll be getting a MBP 13", it's really stylish and just works. The same reason I got myself a Canon Ixus 110 IS, though 120 is out now, it's still a really really good compact digital camera that can record HD videos! Now, MBP 13" will just make my day. I'm going to try out OS X using psystar's Rebel EFI first, just to see how it works before getting the MBP biggrin.gif

Finally got myself a Macbook Pro 13 inch!!!! It is as awesome as people say it is. No flaws in design! I think I'll be sticking to this one for years to come, no matter how many updates Apple announces. After all, this is my first Mac biggrin.gif

Thanks! You've got a point there, but for class, portability really means a lot. The sleekness is just like the icing on the cake tongue.gif Tonight I'll experiment with OS X, and read some guidelines by the mac gurus here biggrin.gif

I wanted to get a black Speck SeeThru satin casing too but Switch only had 1, and that one had a corner ripped. So.. I just bought a cheaper sleeve that has more pockets. That way, I can put more stuff biggrin.gif

I have a quick question, how do I boot into OS X after installing windows? It seems that the machine boots into windows automatically. sad.gif

All of the OS X version of Windows software are way better on OS X. They're much easier to use, have smoother graphics and... well... just better. They're right, once you go mac, you'll never go back, haha!

Are there any specific issues that i should know of before purchasing one?

Well, if you're getting a white Macbook, you should know that its major shortcomings are the lack of ports, and its polycarbonate plastic body scratches easily. In my opinion, it is better to get a Macbook Pro because it has a stronger chassis, SD card slot, FireWire 800, better screen and illuminated keyboard.

I'm not experiencing any real problems with my Macbook Pro 13". In fact, it is much better than my old Vaio FW in terms of stability, ease of use, graphics and overall performance. There are some quirks here and there but most of them could be solved through software updates.

If you're going to use this for class, Microsoft Office is a must for compatibility. Well, you could install a Mac version of it or install Office 2007 in Windows via Boot Camp. The original copy of Office 2008 is RM599 but maybe there's a better deal, maybe you could as the other forumites about this as well. I have both iWork and Office 2008 installed and to be honest, I prefer iWork. It is easier to use but of course, compatibility with Office is still a worry. I myself am a student and assignments come in and out like water.

You would also need a DVI to VGA adapter if you plan on using your notebook alongside with a projector. That'll cost RM99, if I'm not mistaken. This is a must if you want to present a slideshow made by Keynote because I heard that there's some compatibility issue there and also availability of certain fonts on non-mac machines.

Battery is not an issue on Macbooks and/or Macbook Pros because their batteries are of high capacity. Mine could last around 5 ~ 6 without the use of WiFi and 3 ~ 4 hours with WiFi on a single charge. It's perfect for me because there's 27 laptops and there are only around 4 power outlets in my class.

You might also feel awkward when first using the OS X because they way apps install and handled is different on OS X. You could easily get watch a tutorial video from the Apple website.

Also, there are only 2 USB ports, so you might want to opt for a USB replicator and also an external hard disk because the hard disk on the Macbook Pro is only 160GB while it is 250GB on the White Macbook.

That's my 2 cents, hope it helps blush.gif
