actually, hot is subjective. Any laptop will get hot when gaming, not a single one will remain cool, except if you play it inside a server's room. but yourself maybe freezing, so not advisable.
but how comfortable are you to play when a laptop gets too hot? For me, this laptop have a really superior design, coz the armrest is always cooler than you palm. refer to the first page to see where the main heat is all about.
like a desktop, most people dont even bother to close the casing. this laptop bottom case can be opened without voiding the warranty. that is the plus point.
the main prob with this laptop is, is the fan. except booting, it wont blow any faster than around 20~30% of its speed. and even in high heat, it will just remain unnoticeable. we cant hear a single thing. a really really quite whisper.

see my signature for the full specs of this laptop. K40AB, K50AB share the same hardware, the difference is screensize ( duhh. 14" ->15.6"), K50 have numpad!! and 20 minutes lesser battery time. using vista battery saver, can get at most 2hours. normally, around 1 hour, 50 minutes.

Comparing the k40/50ab to dell studio15. you pay for what u get, considering the price:performance:feature paid ratio, they are about the same. Differences are
Dell Studio 15 :
-intel cpu (better batt life & performance clock to clock)
- hdmi, esata
-faster gddr3 ati 4570 (680/800)
- Vista/Win7 OS
Asus k40/50Ab
- amd x2 cpu (lower batt life, & lower performance clock to clock to intel)
- no hdmi, no esata
- ddr2 ati 4570 (680/500) , memory overclockable to 600mhz
- free dos
- 2 years warranty, yes a BIG Plus point
That’s about rm700 diff, so basically it depends what you wan
Nope, there's no need to open casing when gaming. Palm rest is very cool..you should ty it out
