my K50 also have the same brighness prob as you guys... and the funny thing is, when i change to power xpress mode, the display just went blank.

have to change back to dGPU mode. sigh~

Just played Burnout Paradise. in 1366x768 medium settings, and the shadow is set to LOW. A bit laggy sometimes (i think it went to load the map some more) overall is good. Dunno how to calculate framerate.

sometimes my sound wont bunyi...

i oso dunno why,check the drivers,it`s ok

2 or 3 times restart baru ada sound 

but it`s rarely happen to my lappy...

If the problem happen quite a few times then maybe you can bring your laptop to any Asus SC to check your audio lor..maybe got hardware problem..some glitches in the MB maybe...

k40ab 2nd generation with the sticker 20 % cooler (dont know whether they really change the cooler inside or just add the sticker) rm 2020 without free gift...come with asus bag and mouse

install vista ultimate...and install all the drivers from the asus cd..all no problem..never install srs and other webcam software..coz it's useless for me.

all FN key working...and the power express auto detect and user select is working..bios set to power express .

idling temperature after 15 mins 77 Celcius

play street fighter 4 temperature goes up to 90 C..never stress it with PI..so dont know what the max temperature..

have a feeling this laptop only last 1 year then condemn coz of the heat.
Overall...good gaming laptop...speaker not good altho says altec lansing..sounds too soft....nowadays all laptop speaker not good already... quality build..so so ...compared to old asus f80q...

Celaka,...my laptop battery stop chargin at 97% and says unable to charge. At this rate i keep on calibrating the battery, 100% will actually mean 10% in real battery power. Never seen a battery dying to damn fast.

With my K50AB, i can hit 36 deg celcius when idling inside air-con room, and another forumer also managed to hit 36 deg celcius when idling in non-a/c room.
i never encountered this problem before. maybe u got a lemon unit?

I can choose when to use Auto-Fan control and when to use Max-Fan speed. Max fan speed really rocks as even the top part of the laptop doesn't feel hot anymore.

what he said is he configured the fan speed thru some programs or moddings.. its not the hardware issue.

Well, regarding hardware monitor and fan control, I been using SpeedFan and HWMonitor. In Windows 7 32bit RM7100 both failed to monitor GPU temperature and fan speed, and there is only two temperature probe it displayed, the CPU and ACPI temperature. I haven't tried anything else though

While the only bug I have is the display brightness won't change, but that is because I use dGPU, if I enable PowerXpress the brightness can be changed but whatever driver I use, I cant seem to enable HD 4570 when I use the onboard I have flashed to the latest BIOS FYI

Even I puzzled by what he said, as I found nothing related to fan speed bug like you said I would like to ramp up the fan speed a littel while gaming too. If I find anything I'll definitely post it here There is some other programs I wanted to use

Oh another thing I found, the k10stats doesn't seem to overclock the CPU even though after reboot it displayed the overclocked speed, even the BIOS reads it has been overclocked! I 'managed' to overclock to 4GHz, that was so silly it impossible to reach such speed, the benchmark score reflect it exactly the same as before, but the voltage really did changed so you definitely can cooldown the CPU by doing so. Lowest I got is 1.0375V for load and 0.9V for idle. Force the idle to 1GHz 0.9V and watch the temperature drop I got 49C in non air conditioned room

Ok. Here's how I do it for those who didn't really get what I said earlier. FYI, I'm using K50AB purchased from All-IT.

Step 1: Update Windows Vista completely (I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 bit).

Step 2: Install AMD/ATi drivers from official website (not Asus website). Other drivers, use the included driver CD to install all.

Step 3: Switch from HD4570 to HD3200 via ATi driver inside Windows.

Step 4: Go to Sleep mode via Start Menu.

Step 5: Wake up from Sleep by pressing any key or mouse click.

Step 6: The fan will now be spinning at full speed!
(Note: You can change to HD4570 back now for gaming, and the fan will still be running at full speed. However, if you plugged/unplugged your power supply, you need to restart Step 3 and onwards)

Key benefits:
- Temperature at idle is as low 36 degrees Celsius. You will realize even the hard disk and top-right-hand side corner is no longer warm!
- Temperature at gaming is still very low, since the Asus K50AB is designed to cool all parts of the laptop (comprehensive-exhaust system).
- The air that the fan is blowing out will not be as hot as before as the fan speed can push much more air out, thus preventing heat build-up.
- Longer life for your laptop components and battery.

it's not that i dun want to believe... but if u dun have any solid evidence to support wat u said, nice way to put it is blow water only... not nice, pardon my language, it's bull**** only...

i would gladly believe if u can show a scrrenshot of the game at max setting, native resolution and at least 30fps at normal condition...

afaik, even desktop HD4850 and GTS 250 have difficulty running the game at such setting and resolution... iirc if u really max out the settings with these cards at 1680x1050, 20fps is considered good already...

btw, i played it @ 800x480 with all mainstream settings

maybe graphic memory is the problem? eg. GDDR3 faster than DDR2?

tested 3DMark06. Got 3020 mark. almost the same mark as my previous BenQ S41 (which gets 3067). But why did the Vista rate my K50 graphic as 4.1 but the S41 graphic as 5.6?

what criteria does the Vista use? Later on when I get back home I post some screenies on this.

For me, when I play the game Burnout Paradise, I can feel the lags a bit, but you said yours play smooth right? But our hardware is exactly the same. So my meaning of smooth and your meaning of smooth is not the same.

That's weird, mine takes less than a minutes to load. Does your other games behave the same? Otherwise, it must be the game installer. Try reinstalling the game from another DVD, make sure to update DIRECT-X 10 from Microsoft.
