Hi

All the sifu, I just bought SR508 together with SKS-HT528 5.1CH speaker at RM2599, is that expensive?

I have not install the package yet and would like to ask should I get additional 2 surround speaker so that I can setup the 7.1Ch surround sound?

depend on your room size and your seat location
if your seat is at the back of the wall already, then you cannot get the benefits of 7.1

Normally 7.1 means you add the surround back speakers - these should be placed behind your seating position a few feet away. So if your seat is right against the wall, there is no place to put the surround back speakers.

Greetings all Onkyo sifus.

Newbie here and I am looking for a home theater system, I was offered the Onkyo HTS-5300 for RM3300, is that a good buy?

i wonder why malaysian sellers offer this entry level system with so expensive price. Even Harvey Norman Queensbay Mall quoted RM3799! Unbelievable!

So I skipped Harvey Norman and ordered directly from internet. My unit finally arrived 5 days later to my office in Penang from US last week. I paid RM1200+ (USD384) only for it, also came with the iphone dock. I also paid RM700+ for shipping. The box was huge, couldnt get it in my civic. Had to throw the packaging and put the 8 speakers one by one in the car.

So overall i paid less than RM2K. This is the price you should pay for entry level HTIB. (furthermore it was made in our own backyard - made in malaysia, imagine it has gone around the world and you have to pay for the trip - i still think the price should be less than RM1K )

Anyway, i've just finished drilling my ceiling beam last weekend to fix the back and surround speakers. Playing PS3 move with its 7.1 channel sound and very powerful subwoofer is an amazing experience.

Mind to tell me which website you ordered from? Did you need to pay any taxes or duty when shipped in Malaysia? Good sharing here, since everybody have an option to buy with cheaper price!! thumbup.gif

Did you have to pay any tax on it?

Also, since you ordered from US, I suppose it only works on 110V and you had to also get a transformer?

Anyway, I agree with you that it should be much cheaper (AV stuff is generally overpriced locally). And ironically Onkyo is made locally... don't they get any tax breaks or incentives?
