any idea normally how is speaker life span?
i mean, is it worth to invest to a speaker?

sorry for asking funny question  laugh.gif

not a funny question at all.

the main speakers are the ones u should spend MOST money.

side, back, center speakers... maybe u can stinge a bit.

AVR, TV, devices... they breakdown or get obsolete after 3-5 years.

i have a pair of B&W that are 30 years old, still rocking.

another pair of Paradigm, 6 years, still rocking too.

but... really, i do not know if they make speakers like that anymore...

it really depends on two factor

the place you put will it be too dry and hot or cold and humidity is good

and hows your usage

i have a pair of rogers floor standing that still working till now...which is about 10 years +

have intention of changing it to a bigger floor standing if have money.

trust me....is good to allocate more budget on the floorstanding, a good floor standing will last you several change of AVR laugh.gif just like mine

it does have differences in sound quality....older speakers tends to sound not as good. as the speakers plastic component are getting harder and crack.

coz i dint really take care of them since day 1 laugh.gif but the place i put it to are good

Hello guys... just bump to this thread. So many good info.
Btw, i have a question. i am owning an Onkyo AV too, but somehow my unit stop decoding DTS and only outputs Stereo sound while DD still working fine. I had tried to reset the unit and check the code seem like nothing is wrong. Anybody has and experience about this issue? Or do you have and recommended repair shop that can repair (and will it be worth repairing?). Thanks.

I am owning TX-SR503 paired with Bose Acoustimass 10.

never ending onkyo cases
try to isolate (make sure) not the player issue.
repair usually not worth, rather buy 2nd hand avr.

just like take caring a wooden guitar~

sad.gif investing too much in Amp would be a waste if it last for short period of time..

if it all the while been decoding DTS and 1 day it stopped doing it

it might be the board is done.

well...not to say buying/investing on a expensive is a waste

just have a more "balance" budget while purchasing such thing like 60% on floorstanding speakers and 40% for AVR. My recommendation for beginner

while....my own have a much bigger setup, is always good to have a bigger AMP
