I've said this a lot of times and I'll say it again.

You cannot compare the Nokia N97 to the iPhone (whatever the series may be), simply because they are different. Phones like the Nokia N97, WinMo or even Android devices are smartphones. They are as close as you can get to a mobile computer.

iPhone, on the other hand, love it or hate it, it's NOT a smartphone. A lot of people might disagree, but how can the iPhone be a smartphone when it doesn't even perform the must fundamental function of a smartphone, which is to multitask?

Nokia N97 is targeted to the tech-savvy masses; whereas the iPhone is for a very niche market - the Apple fanboys. If you love Apple, you'll love the iPhone. If you love tech, you'll love the N97.

I won't tell you the advantages of the N97 over the iPhone because I can go on for another 10 paragraphs, but I can tell you what basic functions the iPhone 3GS does not have that even my 3 year-old N95 can outfunction it:

- No multitasking
- No file transfer over Bluetooth
- No Java support
- No LED for camera
- Which doesn't really matter because the camera is rubbish
- No hactic feedback on the touchscreen
- No proximity sensor
- No shutter key for the camera
- No stereo speakers, only mono
- No file manager
- No DIVX support
- The battery is shit

Stop comparing the iPhone to smartphones already. I think its competitors should be the Samsung Jet and LG Arena.

I'm not saying that the iPhone is inferior, but it's just different. I appreciate all the technology iPhone introduced to the mobile phone market, but drawing comparisons with the flagship device of the N-series is just out of line. N97 (Sedan) vs iPhone 3GS (2-door coupe). It's quite a silly comparison when they target to different users (tech-savvy and fashion-savvy).

totally agree with the statement, its not that iphone isn't a great phone, but honestly, after using it awhile, its nothing special.. the interface is probably nice, and after probably a few years time, u will realise that its quite shitty when u can't change the battery yourself, its like and extra time bomb built in to the phone, u may have to fork out extra cash for it, and it could be a lot.. accessories wise, the price are always jacked up, cause its a premium item? well its not supposed to be, but they made it that way.

i changed from iphone to e71 and now to n97, and am loving the n97, though the occasional glitch and all, but mind you, iphone has it too.

facebook, i just visit facebook using web browser, and it works better for me >.< i didnt like the facebook app made for our phone, u can't view ur own status after awhile, when u want to reply comments. funky stuffs, only thing good, is that you can upload photo with ur built in camera.. other than that, i prefer the web browser version

mine on average last about 2 days, if i use the joikuspot program, while chatting with it on nimbuzz, email-ing and all, usually within one day i will have to charge it, it probably consumes a little more than my e71, i say.. 50% extra maybe?

my gps on n97, v11 locks on within seconds, if not, max 10 seconds, but i use data plan, and i use A-gps, probably thats why?

anyhow, gps locking depends on your last position locked on as well, it kind of memorises where u locked on last, and search for your fix from there.. so if ur last locked on was at london, it may take an hour before it reaches your current position i think, that is why on garmin, while it is searching for a valid fix, u can actually put in new position, its like telling the gps where ur rough position is, then it locks on slightly faster..

this only applicable to those who do not use A-gps, cause with A-gps, it locks on within seconds.

and yeah.. awaiting eagerly for v12, or v2.0.. makes me drool

finally i found a video converter which plays full resolution!

google for "n97 best video format"

Nokia N97: Video playback formats are 3GP formats, Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4; the video resolution is 360*640. Audio formats are AAC, M4A, MP3, WAV, WMA etc.

ur phone software = windows
ur phone hardware = harddisk e.g.

install pirate software inside ur windows = void warranty?

since n97 is a smartphone, should it be at a level as a portable PC?

since when u need to send in ur PC to format ur windows?? LOL

sry if i offend any1

wanna ask something about going online...
if i do lots of twitter and facebook, what kind of package of mobile internet from masix should i choose... is that same as blackberry and iphone internet package??
*
bro, try find out about celcom's power 148 package, I am using that, the plan is actually quite good if you're willing to chip in 157 bucks a month for phone bill, (if you're planning to take up a data package worth 98, its only bout 60 bucks more)

what it is...

u pay a commitment of RM 148,

what you get..

call rebates of RM 148, on top of that, you get free HSDPA 3.6mbps celcom 3g, which is quite a good deal in the end, especially for those whose phone bills occasionally reaches a hundred bucks.

my phone bill with maxis previously was around 60-80 bucks a month, with controlled usage (monitoring now and then), after switching now, I actually yada yada on the phone without bothering how much I spend, cause it is less likely for me to ever reach RM 148 by the end of the month.. quite a good deal for me,

and yes.. internet is stable, and occasionally i get speeds up to 2mbps, but on avg about 1mbps only..
