Stumbled upon this on the net.

Warning - Their site is super slow! http://www.panasonic.com.my/web/pid/7863

Saw the Price is around RM300, seems more cheaper than buying a Blu - Ray player for now. Hope someone who experienced it can share their review here.

Please also share any similar range players with us here

HD Up-Conversion
When a Panasonic DVD Players are connected to an HDMI compatible display, DVD can be up-converted to 720p or 1080p for output. The converted images have much higher resolution than the 480p images of conventional component output. You get beautiful, high-resolution images that are perfect for today's large-screen HD flat panel displays.

HD Enhancer
Ordinary video up-converters produce images by uniformly interpolating the original video signal. This produces images with thicker edges and decreased sharpness. The HD Enhancer, on the other hand, keeps the edges sharp while correcting other parts of the image to produce razor-sharp pictures with outstanding detail. Its effect is especially noticeable on a large screen.

108Mhz/12-bit Video D/A Converter
This high-speed, high-precision circuit converts DVD video signals using 4-times oversampling for progressive scan playback and 8-times oversampling for interlace scan playback. This high-density conversion process results in clear, beautiful pictures with high resolution and high S/N ratio.

CyberianHusky,

If looking for a DVD upscaler check out the Toshiba XD-E500 which apparently is one of the best in it's class...

I myself use a Sony NS-708 upscaler and I'm happy with it...
My bluray player Panasonic BD-60 also does upscaling but i have not bothered to compare the two really...

guys, any difference in quality if I play blueray disk in a player compared to the blueray file I run from my laptop?
Assume both file on disk and my harddisk is of same quality.

Thanks yonggoh,

Im dquite new to this 1080 upscaling thing and looking at the players price, its worth to take a closer look at a few models available.

I will take a look at your recommendation of Toshiba XD-E500.

I was looking at Panasonic cos im using the PAnny PV4280. Its a good thing that i can use 1 remote to control both units using Viera Links.

tq

Sorry for being so negative bro, the truth is...upscaling make the DVD a little better only...dun believe the hype so much...

Very soon, you will convert BDfiles to DVD to get the best out of your upscaling DVD player...so you will spend a lot of time downloading and converting. After a few month, you will notice your collection skips even with high quality DVDR and very slow burning process using Nero.

To add salt on the Panny wounds....it doesn't even have a USB port for avi playback...more surprisingly, no SD card slot which is typical Panny trademark for everything else.

Actually, Panny is over priced for its DVD players...I know cos' I bought one for my dad.

Well, the Toshiba XD-E500 is trully best in class, but take note, it also doesn't have a USB slot. I know I always make a big deal of a USB slot...once you know the advantages of it, you will think how you lived without it.

My take...Sony NS-728 or Pioneer DV 610AV

If you want all in one remote control, Philip and Logitec got lots of universal remote control for you.

Another way is to get yourself a media player like WDTV or Xtreamer....that one pumps 1080p into your plasma with real 1080 signals.
After getting yourself a media player...your DVDplayer will be collecting dust brows.gif
