I first saw this at ALL IT Digital Mall, Section 14 a few weeks back. Pricing then was RM459 I think.

While I liked the fact that it is able to play AVI and RMBV formats, I was not impressed with how it looked (the casing)

Yes the casing looks crappy but it has a touch sensitive buttons in front in blue colour, if there is any consolation.
What made me take notice was it had HD playback for both RMVB/AVI/MOV/MKV which WDTV cannot do at this moment
Also the HDMI Cable is supplied with the unit. ( HDMI cable is not cheap by the way)
Most places are able to offer at a discounted price of RM 399.00

Yes, I have noticed. Alas, holding off til after the upcoming KLIAV show. See if there's anything interesting there or not. It's gonna be a major "overhaul" for me since I will need to change my router (an old Gigabyte .11g draft), set up a NAS, etc. Fortunately, PC Fair is end of the month too

cos 1st and foremost these MKV players are designed with video playback priority first .. rather than just being wireless audio streamers.
(and no one muxes APE and FLAC into their Movie audio tracks)

Yup... I would go for a media player with future firmware upgrade as it will definitely solve some of the player problem from time to time.... My RCA L8H does not have firmware upgrade... crap!

The cheapest mkv and bdmv player I can find right now is from egreat. Bought it for RM 580 from a forummer. It uses the same sigma chip is DVICO. Does anyone know what chip this media player uses?

egreat use sigma chip. It's not rmvb, but bdmv (blu-ray struture file). So far only xtreamer can play rmvb too. Just put an order today at RM 620 with free wifi dongle.

I didn't know the sigma chipset can play RMVB.. so it's just a firmware limitation (not hardware?) good to know then..

Clamul 1080p media player gave me a lot of problem. First it cannot play dts audio, with only picture but no sound. Then i was advice to get an amplifier for dts audio. Hene i bought an amplifier. Now it can't play 40% of the mkv files. But I had tested these files with Dvico, and they work. So i took these sample files to the clamul's distributor and ask them o verify, but there are still no news from them. And also i bought them about a week ago with a counter at WinChance, LYP for RM450, today they are throwing price at All IT for RM 399. Hence, i went back to WinChance to check why the price is so much cheaper with ALL IT. But the pomoter rudely told me off "if like that ar, then you buy from ALL IT lar" knowing that i already bought from him. This is like without after sales support.

If i know i was facing so much problem, they sell to me RM 300 also i would not want.

Buying NMT need to check the company background. If they don't have active user base + frequently updated firmware = risky investment.

actually any Tom, d***, and Harry can come up with a new NMT product everyday - the OEM chip makers make it very easy to launch your own product. As consumers and users of such products, we might want to look beyond price, especially for such techy thingy - we need a responsible company to collect feedback on the product and come up with new firmware to fix issues and bugs. I think another product to avoid is ACryan's. the user complaints are all over the net. For a simpler set up I would suggest people look to Western Digital (WDTV) - such a big shot in the industry has proven that they constantly provide new firmware to enhance their WDTV's performance. For higher End, there are plenty of choices too, just need to google them.

Camul should have re-value to RM 240 from RM 399 due it 60% half cook(without DTS output to hdmi) and 40% rotten meat (not work on certain mkv files). So beware off this skull head promoter....&...suck big time after sales support company.

Yes, I am also facing problems with MKV files. Do remember MKV is a just a container like AVI. Inside the container might have the movie encoded in codecs not supported by the media box. vmad.gif

I recently tested a MKV file with x264 720p video and audio DTS. Video came out clearly but no audio. I am now using coaxial cable to connect to my amplifier. I will buy an optical cable to see if it solves this problem as my amplifier also has optical inputs. rclxub.gif

Anther thing is I feel a lot of us here have over expectations on the media box. Do remember it is a standalone media box with many firmwares inside to decode the various files formats available today. There is bound to be formats that cannot be decoded fully.

Let's put it this way. For only RM 399, I also was disappointed but not heart broken. I would say for me, this media box is a transition until I can afford to get a proper Media PC with HDMI with surround outputs. rclxms.gif

You can try cabletron at low yat 3rd floor. Please bear in mind cheap ones might not be able to work with clamul. It depends on the light from the optic cable. I had tried a few and i already gave up, hence i bought a QED optic cable for RM210.

My problem is i am getting more and more mkv files that cannot be read by clamul. Maybe i would want to sell my clamul + the optic cable for RM 430, if i could not get any answer from the clamul supplier by this week.

What an expensive lesson!

I got a fiber optic cable. Tried it and still no sound. Apparently the Coaxial & optical Output gives the same result.
Consulted the manual and realised that it does not say anywhere that it supports DTS. However it supports AC-3. There is no point flaming the Clamul MovieBox as the manual did not say anything about DTS support.

My best solution is to just convert audio part of the MKV file from DTS to AC-3 sound. Tried on one MKV file with DTS audio file it is works.

Clamul does not support dts. It only allow the pass through. You need an AVR to produce the dts audio. In fact i m playing my shows with 5.1 dts audio using the AVR. Without the AVR, there will be no sound for dts audio files.

You need a good optic cable from your clamul to the AVR.

You might be right here. I just realised my Amp can't decode DTS via coaxial or fiber optic (old amp is quite old) so I couldn't test that part.

Nevertheless, a bit of conversion did the trick. Might be troublesome but not all MKV files are encoded with DTS. Just look for the AC3 ones

Jimmy, sorry to let you know i already sold it to a middle east guy a week ago. My advice if you want to play mkv files, you can go for WDTV. The PQ is is like Dvico. Butthe SQ is a bit off.

it cannot even play 40% of the mkv files, what else can you expect it to do. for SQ and BD iso, maybe you can go for Dvico.

As for this clamal, i even go to the distributor's office and gave them two mkv files, one can be played and on cannot. and ask them to come with the solution, but till today, after one month stll no news. Call them, and they slam on your phone.

Somemore, the whole office is three person working. the lady boss is pregnant still working. If you want to kn0w more information, on this poorly support distributor you contact Clarion Multimedia Sdn Bhd, E306, Metropolitan SQ, East Wing,Jalan PJU 8/1, Bandar Damansara Perdana. 03-7710 0316.

I think they are also selling imitation garmin gps sets from china.

For your information, the problem with clamul cannot be solve by the distributor. If you follow my complain, you will understand. Now ALL IT at Low yat, already paste the box and cover the 1080P logo. cover up the Full HD logo.

Clamul 1080p = Diyomate P2000

I'm the supplier of Diyomate. No firmware fix it. discontinue soon.

Mstar 6m68 problem

-not all h264 can support.
-some mkv audio can't sync
-don't have seek time function
-no support dts.

2nd generation chipset will improve it ...

please friends, do not compare this product with WDTV - that's an insult to WD.

WDTV's PQ is excellent, covers almost 90% of mkv files, Audio using optical output 5.1 surround is terrific. And. Do not have to worry that the customer service is going to slam your phone and tell you that they will not give support to your problem.

Ya... but i bought my WDTV for RM375 ... while my Clamul is RM450. Told you to check this forum first before you buy. Ya the PQ for WDTV is almost similiar to Divico's. Just the SQ is not as good as Dvico's.

i bought one last month...less than 1 month...the REMOTE KONG!!! %$#^&**!!!

Now under RMA, plans to sell it when it return from RMA. Bought a WDTV Live on Saturday...

What i can say:
1) In terms of format playback, it's good, play all my MKV and SD files without problem. Even plays RMVB files which my new WDTV live can't do.

2) Picture quality is ok, no problem.

3) LAN and WIFI - only good for Standard definition movies...it simply can't stream HD movies. Initially i thought it was the connection speed not good enuff...but that's not the case. 100MB LAN should be more than able to handle...but this still lags...my new WDTV Live...stream HD so smooth!!! Oh yeah, it can't share folder with WINDOWS 7. But u can do UPNP and stream from ur Win 7 PC using the Windows Media Centre or TVersity etc.

4) The remote...this is the bane of this media player, seriously, it's the most serious problem. From the start, the buttons are horrible...hardly responsive and u need to point directly at the media player....(my WDTV, i can point anywhere, even at the ceiling and it still works!!)....and whatever you do...DON'T DROP IT!! I just drop from a short distance (my bed and voila...cannot use already...even exterior has nothing broken). I suggest u DIY and wrap the controller with sponge or something to prevent a hard landing!

Seriously, it is overpriced. For RM250 can consider...coz the LAN and WIFI don't work!!! If you plan to just play from external usb hard disk, then it's fine. Just don't think about streaming or LAN or WIFI for HD movies...it doesn't work.

Now using WDTV Live...so happy...can stream all my HD movies...no lag... thumbup.gif

Since u just bought a few days...i suggest u run back to the shop and exchange for a WDTV Live. Just top up the difference and pay maybe 20% restocking fees....you won't regret it.

Matrix , i agree with u , the remote controller are rather fragile , my hdpro & s6t's oledi spoilt (...thx to my kids sweat.gif ) but the wd 1st gen is still working fine , somehow i think that that is the disadvantage of buying non-branded media player , have the bear with it as the price is much lower sweat.gif

Actually, the price is not much difference...WDTV Live is RM399(or cheaper)....Clamul is RM369.

But Clamul comes with a HDMI cable and WIFI(which doesn't works for HD)....and LAN doesn't works for HD either...

So in the end, it is actually a much more expensive product because the function DOES NOT WORK!!!...not to mention the total lack of support...with WDTV, i can always get latest firmware updates frequently to fix problems and enhanced function. The moment i plug in my WDTV Live, it has found and update > 3 firmwares updates.

Blah...no my Clamul is still in RMA...dang...i will sell it off the moment i get it back...NO MORE CHEAP(as in quality, not price!) CHINA BRAND RUBBISH FOR ME EVER!!!

opps , delay judgement pls , actually i'm not saying the China product is inferior , in fact majority of electronic appliances are from China , it is much depends on one company's QA standard. those branded with good QA system are much more reliable , of course need to pay premium on it . Got my S6T @ rm250 actually , so couldn;t expect the quality is on par as branded one nod.gif
