simply to says that to buy an entirely non-tied iphone need a new prepaid pack, so its

RM 2490 + prepaid pack

as for unlimited data is optional. am i right?

I just checked the bill on my Maxis, other than them billing me RM99 for the Unlimited plan, they don't even give a mere indication of how much data was used! #$$^^& so I'm gonna need to figure out how to get that information; I can't be requesting for it every month right?! iSh.. maybe ask my Insider if he can do it for me

Ahh.. thanks but I've never successfully logged on and contacted Maxis several times on this matter to no avail.  I finally gave up and always contacted them by phone when I needed information.  Anyhow I thought that would only access our Online Bill Statement - the information in terms of data usage is not even shown in the bill so I doubt it'll be shown on that website either !

1GB data should be more enough for MOST users I assume.
Unless they spend their data on downloading apps on their iPhone.

yes. your prepaid line must be active to receive the 500mb data bundle every month. read up the T&C provided on the first page alright?

I have both maxis postpaid and prepaid numbers.
I wish to buy the iphone under the hotlink rm2990 for 32G to enjoy the FREE 500mb per month. But what if later I decided to put my postpaid sim inside the iphone 3gs.
I know as the iphone 3gs is officially unlocked it can be used with any sim so no problem for the maxis postpaid number.
However, under the postpaid number that I did not buy the iphone 3gs with, be able to subscribe to iData 1 (250mb) and iData 2 (500mb) later on?
I call the maxis cs a few times and different cs told me different answers.
Answer One:
Although I buy the iphone from maxis and use it in maxis network, the iphone 3gs
purchased is somehow associated with the phone number you used to make the purchase. Hence my postpaid number did not purchase any iphone 3gs. Since I opted to purchase using the hotlink number I cannot use the iphone in my postpaid number and then opt for iData 1 or iData 2 as a value added services. In this case, my only choices are like any normal nokia phone – rm8 (8mb) or the rm99 (unlimited) etc. iDatas are all contracts.

Answer Two:
Since I bought it outright I’m not abide to any contract. I can hop from one iData 1 to iData 2 and use these iData as a value added services for my postpaid number with the iphone 3gs that I bought using a hotlink deal.

Can someone with maxis insider get a thorough clarification?

yes! it's 500mb PER month for a year! that's why quite a number of users are considering getting 3GS through the prepaid plans. albeit the price of the phone is slightly expensive, there's no contract and you will still get to enjoy data usage for 1 whole year. cost of maintaining the prepaid is affordable to. just RM63 like what you've mentioned.

I think your comparison is oversimplified as it does not take into account of voice calls and mms. Your calculation assumes that the user uses the phone merely for data only, of which i believe is unrealistic.
