Not in defense of Maxis but to be fair, the iValue plans are specifically designed to be tied to purchases of iPhones from them. So, how can one insist that he be allowed to get the plan when he did not or would not want to buy an iPhone from Maxis?

Just like they would not entertain any warranty claims for your iPhone bought elsewhere.

The 333 mins for voice calls are not free. You are paying for them under the monthly plan. Therefore, there is no restriction as to which no. you call.

From what I gathered, it is across the board meaning every customer who has the iValue plan is entitled to whatever is thrown in.

Your obligation under contract is for a tenure of 12 months. After lapsation of that duration, it is your prerogative to do whatever you choose. That is in simple terms, the law of contract.

In my haste to reply, it slipped me that getting an iPhone with a pre-paid plan, you are not obligated under any contract. It is just that Maxis provides you with the free monthly data for a period of 12 months. Hence, you can store the pre-paid card away and sign up whatever plan you opt for. Whether you fully utilize the data or not use it at all, there is no loss to you since it is free but it would be a waste.

I know some people who do that just to get the iPhone without being tied down by any contract.

Or simply scour Garage Sales here and buy from one of the re-sellers with no strings attached. However, my personal advice is buy an officially unlocked unit.

I understand your plight but it is a business decision on the part of Maxis. They can and they did. However, it is not permanent. So, if you do not want to sign up any contract or purchase from outside sources, you would have to bear it out for a little longer.

If you make a lot of calls and use extensively the data, it would be. If not, do the math yourself as the 3G 8gb costs only RM1990 to purchase outright.

Since your lust for the i3GS is so great, get it from alternative sources. And if you want to curse at a party, curse Apple. After all, it is they who gave Maxis the sole distributorship.

Check with StandChart and if they have an easy payment scheme on, you can sign for your iPhone either from Maxis, Machines or Switch and pay by installments per the bank's prescribed payment mode.

Firstly, you cannot use the same line/no. to sign up another plan when you are already committed to one. The only thing that can be done is to terminate the first contract and hence releasing your obligation allowing you to sign up a new plan. But you don't want to do that as there will be 'punitive' charges for doing that.

Thus you either sign up with another line or wait out your contract period. Of course, you could buy an i3GS from alternative sources without any binding contract.

You can pray that later there is a problem with the hardware. Apart from that, you can't do anything as dropping and damaging your phone does not come under the ambit of the warranty.

The first thing you need to do is to jailbreak your iPhone then install SB Settings. With that you can shut off 3G and Edge. This will prevent automatic connection which will save you unnecessary data usage and thus $$$.

Let me attempt to clear your problem but a caveat first, I may be totally off tangent.

If you are referring to the statement, yes Maxis will add your commitment to the monthly usage but if you were to scrutinize the statement thoroughly, which you should, you will see that somewhere in the breakdown, they will deduct the commitment sum which will then make the final amount payable correct.

Hello, i3G, only 8gb is still available in the market. 16gb is no more. You can, provided there is stock available. Please check with Maxis about the price.

If you care to read the threads, you will know that there is a long waiting list for the 3GS 16gb. However, you can grab a 32gb on the run at most of the Maxis centres and without contract too.

Yes, the 16gb variant comes in white. But whether Maxis has stock, you have to check. Anyway, for 16gb, you have to pre-book.

From the screenshot, you can see that Maxis won't allow you to exceed the limit. They will 'renew the pass' and if you do not want 'extension', you have to deactivate. That is the pure business way.
