I'm currently trying to start up a Dungeons and Dragons (V4) group in Subang Jaya. Anyone interested should leave a post here or PM me with their names and hp numbers. Everyone is welcome to join.

This is a pen and paper game just to be clear.

Its a great game for those who like it but not so for those not up for it. That's all there is to it.
Whatever it is, I would like to have people come and try it out. I was the DM for my D&D group back in Mlk and we had a lot of fun until now so please do give it a try. I'm willing to teach new people about this game.

And there really is no win and loose in this game as we are playing as a team to have fun adventuring. I am a lenient DM so you will find my games challenging but I am not overly strict as to kill your character off 5mins after the game starts.

Would love to have you join. Not sure if you are a real girl or not but you won't be alone as I have another female player joining us. Leave me your contact number in a PM if you are interested.

@Baronic
Am thinking of Running a BattleTech campaign in the future but I haven't gotten used to the system yet so I don't wanna start a group yet.

Doesn't matter if you are a guy or girl. You're welcome to join us for a fun session.

I really wish you wouldn't move this to Kopitiam as I now have no clue who is serious and who is just mocking me.

Sure if you have a decent command of the English language and want to learn I'm more than willing to teach you the ropes.

@TC_Boy
No, it's not a computer game. It's a pen and paper game. But if you liked Neverwinter Nights, this is basically that only that there is actually interpersonal relationships and we have fun together as a group.

I feel that D&D is a great way to increase your command of the English language as well as your mathematical skills and your creative thinking skills. There will lots of "dungeon crawling" but there will also be sessions that test your mind and thinking abilities as well. It all depends on what the group prefers. I cater to all different types of players.

Actually with D&D V4 it is possible the separate alignments can get along. They have changed a lot of things in D&D with the release of V4.

And please stop thinking so negatively about D&D players. We are just normal folk enjoying a casual gaming session together. We are not gonna commit suicide over a game and neither do we take our games too seriously.

Then why not give it a try if you're interested? Planescape is definately one of the better plot lines in the D&D universe although I potentially like the Eberron setting a bit more. The Forgotten Realms setting is getting a bit ridiculous.

lol, i sold my master rule book together with expansion rules and all the mech sheets away some time ago. still recall tho. what we'll need is the damage calculation sheets mostly and stuff, pretty easy, i modified it and played with house rules last time back in high school. about 20 of us. ah...good days, good days.

that sad, i dont mind learning DnD as well.

Referring to the forum rules in the Hobbies forum, I see no mention that the forum is for discussions only. It says relevant posts are allowed. And seeing that D&D is a hobby, involves collectibles and I didn't attempt to sell anyone anything, I seriously fail to see what rule I broke that would constitute the move.

Maybe I should have renamed the forum "D&D Group in Subang! Discuss!!!"???

title is relavent, but thread content & reply content are unrelevent, so far i don't see any discussion about D&D or relevant information about D&D by using pen and paper.

Perhaps mods forsee that kopitiam is a better place for you to look for more other players or those who are interest in D&D pen and paper group. smile.gif

Not really true. Wayang Kulit (and TV and cinema) are played according to a script. Whatever happens, things always follow the script. In role-playing, there is no script. There's a bunch of people and a plot, whatver happens after that is up to them smile.gif

Okay.

Paper version vs this version :

Paper version

No PC/Console Needed
Electricity Needed
Free (and multiplayer as well)
Total 360-degree, go anywhere, do anything freedom -- want to fish? you got it. Want to swim? you can do that too. Want to slap someone with a fish? done lol smile.gif

This version

PC/Console Needed
Electricity Needed
Not free (and not necessarily multiplayer)
There are a lot of things you can't do.

In short, I can do this in a pen-and paper RPG :

(1) Go swimming

(2) catch a fish

(3) slap an NPC in the face with it.

Let's see you do that with your game smile.gif

1. Play it again. You can swim.
2. Catch fish, yeah right. I can't catch fish in real life either.
3. It will just degenerate into PvP anyway. BTW you can pvp in a pc game.

Not really.. cheating would be say, using loaded dice smile.gif but if the NPC is a d***, the GM has every right to be a d*** smile.gif if fact, being a d*** can be very entertaining (which is more than you can say for most PC games on the market now tongue.gif )

I run semi biased games (biased to the players that is) as I don't wish to frustrate players when their characters die due to a streak of bad luck. That said I'm also very reasonable so if you tell me your character is climbing a shear cliff with no climbing gear, in plate armor ,no Climb skill points, you are most likely gonna die. But at that point you were asking for it.

I provide the dice used so loaded dice is a no no. Really all I want to do is to have fun with people. So if you are interested, please state if you are interested and I will get back to you.

Hi ravager877,

Wow, i didn't realized that there's a new group popping out in Subang Jaya. Where in Subang Jaya? I haven't game for 2 years and i missed it terribly. I'm interested but there's two problems:

1) Transport. Subang Jaya is very, very, very, very far from where i stay. I'm from Bukit Bintang and i don't have my own transport. And i hate taking buses (because my memory of remembering which number going which is always ended up being forgotten)

2) I'm a v3.0 to 3.5 gamer and never tried V4. So i'm not very familiar with the rules. One of the reasons is that V4 tends to move towards MMORPG style game play.

nikwing: Actually...there is one group i know of. BUT! The group already capped out max of 8 players so, sorry my friend. sad.gif

i suppose it is a lot easier to look at pixels of your character seduced by a succubus than having to exercise some brain cells!

i'm no longer game for this unfortunately, my pen and paper days have long passed me by, and our gang's long stopped too after uni so good luck to the rest of ya.
*
madmoz,

Thing is the one thing that youngsters forget these days is that the P&P version doesn't have lag nor PC requirement issues haha. That and the fact that there's nothing quite like watching your friend cough up water through his nose trying to laughat the misfortune of his fellow player (happening live too!)

Don't worry madmoz, some of us like myself are still keeping the hobby strong for those of us moving on into our 30s and 40s.

Some years back I actually attempted that exercise Polaris. Much to my regret, the results were rather dismal. Somehow it is rather difficult to get everyone to crowd around their monitors when they'd rather meet up for the real thing. That and it's not exactly cool to cuss at a monitor or spill your drinks on the keyboard haha.

But seriously though, somehow the engine didn't take too well to the heavy scripting I was doing to it. Needless to say NWN2 would be a better option, but it's still far too much work than I can handle these days with work and all. Good thought though. Thanks!

Am thinking of Running a BattleTech campaign in the future but I haven't gotten used to the system yet so I don't wanna start a group yet.

ravager877,

Nice to hear that the hobby's spread to Malacca and is coming back to town. Keep the fire going strong mate. Pay no bother to those who prefer to spend their time posting inane comments when they can spend a few more brain cells coming up with something more productive.

If you need any help training up the newbies or explaining the rules to them, feel free to look me up or pm me.

Most welcome ravager877,

My pleasure to help a fellow gamer happy.gif. Just hang in there mate and I'm sure you'll be able to find a few good men/women. The hobby itself is not entirely sustainable in Malaysia, that's the problem. I believe us seniors did not take the time to educate the younger ones because of the generation gap in terms of offline and online gaming. Nobody really took the trouble to bridge that gap before it is well... at least I hope it is not too late.

I actually just started playing and all the rules fly waaaaaaaay over my head at this point. But I had so much fun, I didn't care; it was incredibly refreshing to be able to pretty much do AND say anything you want in a game and see how the DM reacts. Having been raised on JRPGs and fairly linear games, I must say the freedom is exhilarating. It's too bad I didn't find the game when I was a teenager; it would've been so awesome back then.

To be honest, I don't know why some people are ragging on D&D; it did give birth to many, many video games. Not to mention that all you really need to play are just some rulebooks, paper, dice and your imagination. You can't say the same thing about computer games these days, and certainly not something like World of Warcraft!

To the naysayers, you really ought to give it a try. You might even be pleasantly surprised, as I was.

Back on-topic, I don't know if I'm going to join your group, OP (or TS, as is the parlance here) but once I've gained more experience, I might give it a shot.

Dear Lancer,

Very happy to know that your experience with gaming is a very positive one. It's just like one's experience with their first ever bottle of Guinness Malta. You'll either get addicted to it or throw up and hate it for life. Bad example I know, but hey... I think it gets the point across haha.

If you'd ever need any support in picking up more of the rules or any advice or pointers, feel free to ask. Would be more than happy to help. If you can't get me in here, try asking in pm.

*geekspeak* Welcome to the family!

Thanks for the offer. Not sure if it will happen anytime soon as everyone is getting bogged down with family obligations to even hold a game proper these days. Oh well..

Dear laksa88,

You're tough out of luck. My group contacted me and arranged for a big bang session on the 20th this month. Hahah... what to do, what to do indeed. Actually, all you need are just 2 more and you're good to go!

You're in Cyberjaya right? (or can access the place, either way)

Yea, currently living in Cyberjaya. To be honest, I'd much rather join in someone else's game rather than try to make my own group (logistics problem, having to set up a campaign, etc.) tongue.gif

Also, what's a "big bang session"?

Well, just to let you know, we'll be playing a session at "Where Else" cafe, adjacent to Old Town Kopitiam if you know where that is, on Sunday 20th this month. I am wondering if you know the other two players personally or they are just people that you've met on LYN?

Big bang, haha... that's just my definition of having a full group (more than usual actually).

Yeah, logistics problems can be a real let-down, but I guess that is just part and parcel of the pride of being a DM and making sure that the entire game runs smoothly?

I don't know the interested parties personally. One contacted me through LYN and the other through MMU forums.
