I have only one SACD, Erich Kunzel's Greatest Film Fantasies. One of the reason I still keep my PS3.

But shouldn't this be in the Audiophile section?

Wow, I feel really "moddy" today . laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry Scotty. blush.gif

LOL mod away, but...

well, not many "audiophiles" I know are interested in surround music tongue.gif and most of the time there seems to be more enjoyment in the equipment as opposed to the music

That's true, even myself prefer stereo when it comes to music (except concert BDs). However, most SACDs are multi-layered, like my Erich Kunzel. There a layer of hi-resolution 5.1 channel, next is hi-resolution stereo and the last is the normal resolution CD layer. I can still enjoy the hi-resolution music on stereo.

Anyway, the SACD/DVD-A collection available is so limited, and both formats are dying. If there is a favorite artist of mine release an album on this format, I'll definitely buy it. biggrin.gif

I have only 1 SACD, that's Sting's Sacred Love....and 2 DVD-A REM's Greatest Hits & Blue Man Group's Audio.

But for SACD, need to really sit down in the middle to enjoy the sound lar, so for us with not owning a lot of time for ourselves, it's a waste of money....

but the sound are definitely better than normal CD...

recently, I've discover that multichannel FLAC sound as good as them and can loaded into HDD play using media player....convenient thumbup.gif

and someone remarked on QQ just now - most people don't know/aren't aware their DVD players CAN play DVD-A discs and get surround music - just not the hirez portion.

I myself would have been content with that except that Pink Floyd released DSotM on SACD and I just HAD to buy a Universal player (yeah, right). A couple of years after that the DVD-A version surfaced (unofficial release, downloadable)

Got a couple of SACD.

Recently purchased the following DVD Audio from a prominent BD retailer in low yat forum (you know who you are!! smile.gif )

Love - The Beatles

It was made for the Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas spectacular (2006), with the same name.

They got Beatles producer George Martin and son Giles to go back into the studio, scan the tracks onto digital format. Individualise the sounds in the track (individual instruments and voices) and then remixed them all into 5.1

The end results, SPECTACULAR.

I just hope they release the whole Cirque de Soleil - Love show on Blu-Ray with Lossless DTS Master, or UPCM (like Stomp! Lives, another masterpiece)

Too bad my DMP-BD60 DOESN'T read DVD Audio or SACD vmad.gif

My fav has to be Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms. Great separation and mix. thumbup.gif

Also Carpenter's Singles 1969-1981 is very soothing. Karen's voice is so angelic. wub.gif

DTS CDs are great for surround music!

it's a bit like comparing a high bit rate - 320kbps MP3 and CD audio; you won't be able to tell the difference on a casual short listen, but in the long run you'll know. plus, DD/DTS use a different compression algorithm than MPEG layer 3 - they sound very good even though compressed

Having said that, there are some DVD-Audio with well mastered DTS tracks that sound great (like those form AIX records... even the DTS track just brilliant)

Been there before with SACD but just not my cup of tea I think so sold everything. Normal 24bit CD already very good in stereo not to mention the overwhelming choices compared to SACD. Plus using universal DVDP that play SACD has no quality feeling to the sound it produce. I bet dedicated SACD player must be very good just like a standalone CDP.
