For me, whatever <5 from IMDB is not worth it. >6 from IMDB is ok but still so-so.
Check at Rotten Tomatoes for their ratings, less biased.

I don't think its really a new show but it's running in some TGV outlets now...it looks like a typical B grade horror..

Ya, reviews are very subjective... Normally what I'll do is I'll browse through IMDB's reviews and choose two extremes - one that rated it very good and one that rated it as horrible... Then sort of expect the middle ground, hahaha

So many horror movies (and in so many different languages) based on an ouija board, so is this any different or more of the same?

As Above, So Below (2014)

I think the horror genre is tap out at this point in time.

Admittedly, apart from the decent Deliver Us From Evil (2014) and also Babadok (2014) I am not sure there is any good horror in 2014.

I watched the above today and it is just decent.

Points are scored for "showing" the French Catacomb. Why would any living person visited the said place is beyond me (same goes for the English version)!!

Who would have thought that Nicolas Flamel (a 14th Century's scribe and manuscript-seller) (of Harry Potter fame??!) is really.

Supposedly, there is a rumor after his death, during the 17th century that he had discovered The Philosopher's Stone and the said stone has the ability to grant immortality.

In this movie, archaeologist, Scarlett, takes father her father and is chasing after The Philosopher's Stone and at any cost...

Apparently, Nicolas Flamel grave holds the the secret, and the catacombs runs underneath his tomb...

Let the terror begin???

It is a mildly entertaining horror movie.

For a horror movie, there really isn't much that is really scary or shocking... Even with the French Catacomb as the back drop...

The Vault of Horror (1973)

Now this really brings me back to the past.

I actually remember watching this on TV back in the day, on RTM!!!!

Excellent example of what you can do with good actors, good story and 0 budget!

The English is really good with this method of delivery!!!

This is an anthology, meaning there are five stories in one movie, namely,

Segment 1 "Midnight Mess"
Segment 2 "The Neat Job"
Segment 3 "This Trick'll Kill You"
Segment 4 "Bargain in Death"
Segment 5 "Drawn and Quartered"

Each story as they were told, gets more and more macabre!

And at the end of it all, a conclusion is done.

The ending has been widely imitated and have to add, when I first watched it on TV many years ago the ending blew my MIND!!!!

After all the big budget flops, you don't know how much I enjoy this, and if you like horror, give this a go, why don't you.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)

Frankly, I did not know what to expect from this movie.

An Iranian movie, with Persian dialog?? Okay...

First impression, the movie started and... it is in black and white... okay...

Ana Lily Amirpour work is an amalgamation between Neill Blomkamp and Quentin Tarantino... with an added dash of Parisan influence... Am I making sense?

This is a fine FINE movie.

With alot of dark humor.

Well cast and scripted and an excellent delivery.

Did I mention this is a vampire movie?? laugh.gif

I love this, I love this, I love this!!

Watch it already why don't you.

Her next movie, The Bad Batch is suppose to have Jason Momoa, Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves... Now THAT is one movie I cannot wait to see.

Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)

This is a good example of why sequels should not be make.

Don't get me wrong. The people involved really wanted to make a good movie, and the opposite is produced instead.

Being a 1986 movie, the effects were pretty good.

In a round about way H. R. Giger was involved with the production design (ghost/demon design, he sent an assistant).

The downside, story people. The story is... bad.

Nothing gel.

Seriously.

Nothing!!

Don't even get me started on the medium and Shaman/Medicine man...

So, in summary, decent effect, bad story even worst editing...

Guess what this movie made money... So much so there is a Poltergeist III... I kid you not...

Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015)

Let's talk about Leigh Whannell.

Who is Leigh Whannell?

He is the person who wrote the Insidious trilogy with James Wan.

You'll probably know him as the character Specs in the trilogy.

Now, why do I want to talk about Leigh Whannell?

I just want to reassure you Insidious Chapter 3 is in good hands.

How can it be not?

This trilogy are as much his babies as they are James Wan's!!!

First thing first, it is a prequel (it started before Insidious 1, and a few years after Elise helped the young Josh Lambert character).

The movie started out slow. Maybe a little too slow.

When we first see Elise, you know something is wrong with her...

This movie is mainly about the Brenner family.

Dermot Mulroney plays Sean Brenner (the father) and Stefanie Scott plays Quinn Brenner, his daughter who cannot wait until she is grown up and can move away. Quinn Brenner reminds me of the elder sister in Mrs Doubtfire... laugh.gif

Okay, here is the real surprise.

The cinema I was in was about 40% full.

Lots of giggling, lots of whispering...

Here is the surprise, when the scary bits happened, the GUYS screamed the loudest.

Not the "I want to scare my girlfriend kinda scream". More like "I don't believe my girlfriend is making me watch this scream"!!! laugh.gif rclxms.gif

Okay, where was I... Right, started out slow, Things pick up after the slow start and when things go bump in the night, IT DOES NOT STOP BUMPING!!! (Hence all the manly screams.... tongue.gif)

SO, it it better then the last two... I would have to say almost.

I think 1 & 2 works better because of the "power couple" Patrick Wilson & Rose Byrne. Here we only have Dermot Mulroney to hold down the fort and a little brother Tate Berney, who really does nothing.

Also nice to see how Elise, Spec and Tucker, "hooked up" tongue.gif

Leigh Whannell is not as masterful as James Wan with his beats (timing) and have to add, he is damn close!!

I do not mind it if they actually make 4. I would pay money to see it!!

GO watch this. You know you want to.

Poltergeist (2015)

What can I say about this remake?

For a horror movie, it is NOT very scary.

The script is pretty similar to the original, unfortunately this means there really is not surprise to the people who had WATCHED the original.

Don't get me wrong, Sam Rockwell & Rosemarie DeWitt (father and mother) tries their best with the material at hand and as I had state, the material is flawed...Not so much flawed, just VERY familiar to the viewers.

At the middle, the action/horror did picked up (the poor boy child, looked like he did alot of the "stunts", was dragged all over the place) and the movie did not excel any further then that....

To make matters worst, the effects are all CGI, which means the the ghouls and ghost are all very.... unorganic... robbing the movie even further.

So, uninspired storyline and had be copied multi-times over by other movies plus, really "fake" CGI ghouls and ghost....

This is director Gil Kenan's third movie...

And first time movie Leigh Whannell, is running rings around this with Insidious 3 (2015)...

Insidious 3 cost USD 10,000,000 to make and this cost USD 35,000,000...

Get a clue Hollywood, get your STORY right.

Sadly, this will not make money.

Which is a shame. Now movie producers will point to this and say, big budget horror is not good business. I beg to differ. Case in point, Drag Me to Hell (2009) and The Cabin in the Woods (2012) are great horror movies.

Oh oh, I almost forgot, the best part of this movie was, they showed the trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak (2015).

Now THAT looks like it is going to be a proper scare!!!

Demonic (2014)

My planning to watch this movie is bad

I arrived late, the movie had already started for 15 minutes when I entered the cinema.

To top THAT off, I did not have any dinner b4, so I had to leave the cinema to get some grub...

Even then I guess the end...

The story is thin and does not make ANY sense....

A disappointment

My two sen...

Watched this on 1080p, just to see what I missed, and...

This is even worst with 2nd viewing....

I didn't watch the human centipede, just watching the trailer alone made me sick. I think tusk is not that sick but it was still a disturbing movie for me.

It Follow (2015)

user posted image

Ehhh...I'm not sure how to feel about this movie. The concept is fresh and the idea is pretty scary, but the execution here is just bland and boring.
Every aspect of this movie makes me uncomfortable though, not sure if that's good or bad but it sure is weird.

Watch it when you have the chance. It's definitely something different in horror genre.
