1) Yes, the outright purchase units from the Apple Retail Stores are unlocked unit; that means Ur able to to use it on ANY foreign sims.

2) You will need an AU based direct debit or CC card to make the purchase.

Am not sure if U can change country settings but if U can that's not going to help with ur solution. Your best option is to disable APN so U don't get charged for data services + when you're back in KL to delete that profile and voila u'll be once again connected.

What other advise do U need? I suggest U go through this thread too http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281 - depending on where U purchased the AU unit, it it possible it is a locked unit; if that is the case U wil need to get it unlocked.

The AU and MY prices are available as public information so U should perhaps check it out urself. At the prevailing exchange rates, it's about the same for an outright unit but if you are in KL U might as well get the MY unit.

Whether or not U get taxed at custom is v much depending on how lucky U are. Thus far, the people I know who's brought back the i3G/i3GS have had no issues with customs.

Best is to check the Model number. Anyone can put a white sticker on the box.
