Can anybody who is out of contract with Maxis iPhone 3G confirm the below - whether its true or marketing ploy? Also that site selling the 32 GB 3GS for RM3999! must be from europe biggrin.gif

http://www.iworld.com.my/blog/?p=742

"The Maxis sales personnel mentioned that they could, at their discretion should they choose to. However, they can ONLY use the iPhone 3G for calls & SMSes ONLY.

Data connectivity (3G access, internet surfing, GPRS, EDGE, etc) would not be functional anymore. To their knowledge, it is disabled/crippled if you’re not using the Maxis iPhone 3G with the supplied simcard & of course the 1 to 2 year contractual plan that you have signed up for."

I was thinking of getting the 3GS for 6 months then evaluate whether i want to switch carriers biggrin.gif

AT least it's a one-shot deal. The other option, Gokivo, tricks you into thinking it is USD0.99, when in fact you need to re-subscribe within the app itself (In-App Purchase, thanks OS 3.0! mad.gif) for USD9.99 per month to keep using it. Daylight robbery in action.

As for Malaysia map, you'll have to wait for TomTom to do it. Garmin is reportedly not taking part in AppStore due to their own project with Asus for their Garmin-Asus Nuviphone.

Can;t wait for tom tom to come out. really keen to get more details on their iphone car holder.

Guys, my iPhone failed me just now and i think this only happen with the 3.0 OS.  cry.gif

As i was travelled back from SG to KL and the whole journey took me around 5hours, thus for sure i was ipod-ing throughout the whole distance. But to my disappointment, the iPhone run out of juice in less than 3.5hours travelling time with 3G/edge totally disable.

Been fully charged the iPhone the night before and minimizing the usage on the day just to prepare for this journey. Who knows, it's still running out of juice. I used to do this previously with 2.2.1 OS and normally it will last till i'm reached home, or even no problem to standby till the next day.

Apple, what you did to the 3.0 OS? cant you don't compromise the feature vs the battery performance?

btw, how's the iPhone3GS battery performance? White to go or black to go? Will consider if the upgrade option from singtel is justify reasonable.

did you turn off push email? i notice because of out crappy phone coverage, if Mail.app starts to pull for emails and gets cut off due to poor signal, it will continue to "search & pull" and keep the radio on hence draining the battery. i notice that when i launch mail.app and force kill it then problem solved. it happened with 2.2.1 but i notice less with 3.0 now.

i kinda heard dec oso by maxis staff..but well, since singtel launchin nxt week, we keep our fingers crossed dat it wil be launched soon n overcome the heat prob rclxms.gif p/s i doubt maxis staff will kno bout top secret launch dates wink.gif

If true this is again in my opinion another stupid move similar to launching the iPhone 3G in March/ April 09. By Dec, everybody who wanted a 3GS would probably have got their hands on an unlocked model already. Those left behind might be stuck with their 2 year contract with maxis and unable to upgrade.

Am seriously considering HK/AU/NZ model if no word from maxis withiin july...

and to prove that i'm not talking nonsense over here, here is a print screen of my usage (bear in mind, that i was having a 2-ish week vacation and i was out perpetually and had to consume even more data bundle)

Wow! i could use an app like that from maxis or whatever carrier i'm using. The data stats on the iphone>settings>general>usage section is not 100% reliable.
