Hi guys,

Nice to meet you. I love cats too which is quite funny because I used to hate them (cat poop in the garden on a warm day yuck). Now, I live, breath, love cats:D

Our new kitten (our first one with breed la) will be arriving next week. We have one other cat (a European Shorthair which in other words is the local pariah cat in Europe). My boyfriend adopted her when she was 6 weeks old, she's now 6 years old!

We were not informed before so our cat only got supermarket food but we did some research (before getting the new kitten) and it turns out that our supermarket food is really lousy! So, we started feeding Royal Canin and after the kitten is about 6-8 months old, we'll switch to Orijen. For wet food, we give Carnibest.

So excited about our new kitten:D

Royal Canin is quite a good brand but it's not the only one you can choose! I always choose foods that have meat as the first ingredient, even better if its the first 2 ingredients.

Friskies is terrible, but not as bad as Whiskas. The first 2 ingredients in Whiskas aren't even meat. Imagine feeding your cat jagung biscuits for the rest of her/his life  vmad.gif
you can get vaccinations and deworming. the vet will usually clean her ears and clip her nails for free

Hi!

Nice cats:)

My breeder fed her cats Royal Canin and I am also feeding them Royal Canin too but will be switching to Orijen soon because Royal Canin only has 30% meat and also includes grains. Orijen is 80% meat but it's also like 1.5 times the price:/ But OKla, how much do cats eat anyway, right...

Before that, I fed my first cat Gourmet (Purina). Imagine my shock when I found out that it only contains like 1% fish in the red and brown bits, 1% peas in the green kibble etc. My cat would also puke about twice a week but I thought that was because she had a sensitive stomach. Since I switched their kibble, no puking anymore.

My new kitten(lilac tortie British Shorthair):

actually if there's more meat in the kibble, then u can feed them less. I like Orijen, but out of my budget atm  sweat.gif
I also supplement their diet with raw meaty bones (RMB diet) few times a week. I know you're gonna scream at me for feeding raw, but I've done tonnes of research, and my cats have been doing fine on it for months  icon_rolleyes.gif

Haha actually raw food is very in here. Have you heard of BARF?

I'm feeding Carnibest (I'm pretty sure they don't sell this in Malaysia. It's a frozen sausage filled with a combo of raw meat, bones etc. and what you have to do is leave it in the fridge for about one hour and then slice it into single portions. Put them back into the freezer and defreeze (by taking a portion out from the freezer and leaving it in the fridge until soft). Then, take it out and feed it when it's at room temp. Thing with all this raw food is that it's more time consuming lor. Like me, I'm bloody lazy. I prefer to just chuck some dry food before going to work haha.

Dunno where but that day I saw this ad from a Malaysian pet shop and per kg, Orijen is same price as Royal Canin!

Don't worry, I'm not one of those sanctimonious pet owners who're like "you feed Whiskas! OMFG you are such a bad owner!":D It's like kids la. Do whatever you want (to a certain point). Can advice but cannot force right. In my case, I also fed those jagung biscuits kind off food 0_0 because I didn't know until I was about to get a new kitten so I did some research. Read the ingredient list of my jagung biskut kibble and was shocked so then I made the decision to do it well this time lah. Especially if I buy the 7kg/10kg pack of Orijen/Royal Canin, it's only double the price of Whiskas

Hi cat lovers! Just browsing through lyn and found out about this tread and decided to join you guys biggrin.gif I'm a cat lover too, I have more than 15 cats at the moment, all strays. I've been caring for strays since I was 15 years old(i'm now 24). If we found any sick strays on the street, we'll call our vet to come and check or go to the vet near our house. We always carry around cat food in the car so that we can give to any strays we found on the streets.

Anyways, My oldest cat is now 8 years old and she's still healthy and active and needy(lol). The youngest is still a baby-found him and his mama at our 2nd house brought them back as 2 babies died in the house(house is still under constructions) all of my cats are neutered/some of them will be soon. They are scheduled for vaccination twice a year.

When I see this thread, I'm so happy to see all those loving cat owners. I can't imagine how some people hated cats/animals and hurt them. Hmm, oh well, I would love to post pictures but there are so many of them...biggrin.gif nice meeting you guys!

Glad to meet another cat lover! I never hurt a cat but cats were certainly not my favourite animals! Used to think they were gross then even when I had my first cat (as in my boyfriend had her before I came along la), I always had to wash my hands immediately after touching it hahaha.

I found a little kitten at a bus stop in Malaysia a few months ago. It was only about 10 days old. Jaga-ed it until I had to balik and gave it some expat but when I went to meet the expat for the handover, she was like 30 minutes late and also I think slightly drunk la. Don't know that kitten survived or not:/ Quite sakit hati lor to feed a kitten every 3-4 hours and then the thing dies...

I don't really see much point in BARF, cz of all the veggie and supplements. I find that RMB is more 'natural' makes more sense to me..heck, if I could, I'd be feeding them whole mice  sweat.gif
and I totally agree about dry food being more convenient. I'm a student and have to rush to class in the morning, so feeding raw in the morning is almost impossible...cz I have to clean up afterwards, and make sure Nemo doesn't steal Tiger's portion  sweat.gif

Where did you see that Orijen ad? I'd love to try Orijen but it's out of my budget  sad.gif

no problem! chicken breast is 100% meat, unlike kibble, so of course very very tasty  drool.gif

I found the forum post (cat food ad). It's abit old but never know.. Orijen, Royal Canin etc.

Today, my cats ate Orijen for the first time. So far so good.

I don't think I can tahan leaving frozen chicks in my freezer;) Would be so grossed out especially because they vacumn pack the chicks so they're all crushed. Gross.

Regarding the chicken breast, think I read somewhere (I am totally inexperienced with feeding cats homemade food) that it's best to feed cats raw meat (except pork -even if religion is not an issue-, that's a no-no due to parasites etc.).

Are you sure your cats are losing fur because of the food? Looks like there might be another reason. Have you taken them to the vet?

cipan: sure it's not some kind parasite (ringworm/mange etc.) or hyperthyroidism (unlikely la, takkan both also ada)? It's best to switch to a high protein balanced diet like Orijen (80% meat).

My cat comes when it's called! She's a bit like a dog but she won't sit on your lap for long nor does she like being cuddled. My kitten however, doesn't come when called (don't think she knows her name yet) but I only have to look at her before she starts purring. She doesn't mind it when we carry her and she sleeps with us. Must always have skin contact haha. She wakes me up every morning by purring right at my face and licking me.

haha my cats know their names too but sometimes they ignore me sad.gif
the funny thing is, sometimes when I call my cats, the dog comes, and vice versa. cz I always use a certain tone of voice to call their names so they get mixed up tongue.gif
*
Haha yeah, I notice I always use a higher tone when I'm calling them.

You have quite a few pets!

Hi,

Just checking is it safe to feed cat/kitten raw food like fish, meat and or chicken as their main diet? or do i have to pre cook them first before feeding to them brows.gif
*
Hi,

It is NOT ok to feed your cat/kitten raw food as their main diet UNLESS you ensure that they have the necessary nutrients (please google to find what is needed). I think for most, it's too much work to make your own because you need good meat, muscle meat, offal, bones etc.etc.etc. to ensure that they have a balanced meal.

whats the best to buy cat litters ya? mine seems worst it become hard...

I think yours is the clumping kind, that's why it becomes hard. In a way, easy to clean la because when your cat pees on that, you just scoop out the hard bits.

I use the silicon one; so far so good. Smell is much lesser but better put a plastic bag at the bottom as sometimes the bottom part is quite gross :-P

then have to change to better quality litter. As I mentioned earlier, I started using the silica type of litter recently. In terms of smell and work, very easy. Clumping kind should be cleaned at least once every 2 days (as in scoop out la and probably buang the whole thing maybe once every week or 2).

How much do you put in and how often do you clean? For the silica, I use about 7.5l each time (can last 2-3 weeks with 2 cats if you scoop out the poop every 3 days or so) and for the clumping (my previous litter) kind, about 10 liter for 2 weeks for 1 cat. Just to add, I use a closed cat toilet with filter and it's in the store room so the normal areas no smell la:D Once it's a bit smelly, I'll change the litter completely

Honestly, I'd never buy a Persian from Malaysia unless it's a product of 2 imported Persians or something. I was shocked the other day when I was at a pet shop in Taman Megah. There were 'Persian' kittens retailing for over RM1000 and they did NOT look Persians at all! More like biasa cats only..probably mixed until unrecognizable.

Persians are not Persians unless they have a pedigree (just like a Maine Coon isn't a maine coon unless it has a pedigree). No pedigree means just normal cat. In Europe, kitten with no pedigree (no matter the breed) cost very little.

It's not that I think a cat is worthless because it is not a pedigree. I just get pissed off when some people try to con other people that the kitten they are selling for so much is a pedigree. Konon. Pah
