I'm getting GF1 early next year (joining the M43 bandwagon), do you guys suggest me to go for the 14-45mm zoom or 20mm prime lens?
I am fully aware of the pros and cons of zoom vs prime. Ideally I really wanted to get a zoom lens to start with; but since there's all the good reviews on the 20mm pancake, do you think it's worthwhile for me going for that first?
Or if I were to get both (which could end up around 5k), do you think I might as well go for the higher end GH1 (with the mouth watering 14-140mm HD lens) instead?
Opinions needed, thanks!

QUOTE(Hico @ Dec 18 2009, 09:03 AM) i will suggest u go for zoom lens to start with...which might cost abt rm2800..then add in 20mm lens which cost rm1450..then total is 4250..or u can consider start with 20mm package cost abt rm3250 then add in zoom lens which cost abt rm1200+, total 4450+..maybe u can even find cheaper price..just try to look around the shop.. 20mm price so cheap only? I thought I saw somewhere that it costs around 1.8k Anyway, I'm still pending approval to get GF1, although I can't wait to get my hands dirty on this This post has been edited by samurai1337: Dec 19 2009, 06:25 AM

QUOTE(yushin @ Dec 20 2009, 11:03 PM) I hope EVF will cut down on battery drain significantly. Sometime I think 2 battery also not enough. Dunno the EVF price yet, seems like whole Malaysia is out of stock. I'm asking my friend in china to check the price of EVF there. If Malaysia really hard to get stock, I'll ask him to buy and DHL to me. Gosh...is it really that bad? How many shots u manage to take before draining it? If GF-1 battery is not as good as advertised, then it's really something that blocks me from buying it

QUOTE(Wuahaha @ Dec 21 2009, 12:17 AM) How much you bought it and where? Seriously I think one extra battery is not enough coz of the LCD live view. I managed to get around 300++ shots, with occasionally flash shots, not sure is it as good as advertised? You must be a very heavy photographer then According to the spec it's 380 shots based on CIPA standard (which for your case is normal) Maybe getting yourself EVF helps in some way though.

Got my black GF-1 from Key Colour MV (14-45mm kit set, as 20mm pancake set only got red and gray colour). According to the staff, this model is selling like hotcakes, especially the 20mm set Too newbie to post any photo here yet, give me time to pick up some skills This post has been edited by samurai1337: Dec 24 2009, 11:48 PM

So hot hehehe Got picture just share ya Red colour seems to be so... uncool to me, it's a matter of preference though Posting some pics here, still very newbie in term of skills Night view from my condo balcony (Night landscape mode) Can still see the firework from few KM away after cropping it Manual Focus (although I think AF can pretty much achieve the same)

QUOTE(OldKidz @ Dec 26 2009, 04:37 PM) wau, great, means its lower thn msia price. Is it the best bargain in spore? which shop? Js get my EP1 today, hurray!! Am in the league now. Congrats! What lens did you get? I really like EP-1 retro design (better than any other M43 choices - GF1, GH1, even EP2), although end up getting GF1 mainly due to the brand name and faster AF

QUOTE(OldKidz @ Dec 28 2009, 05:51 PM) Erm, single kits set. Now thinking whether should i go 20mm F1.7 or Carl Zeiss 50mm F1.4 with adaptor!! Or Jus 50mm F1.8 with adaptor. I found tat manual focus quite fun for tis EP1. How u guys think? uhmmm... What's the 35mm equivalent focal length for the Carl Zeiss 50mm F1.4 if mounted on your EP-1? Manual focus is always fun (as long as the subject is not moving )

Wow, more and more GF1 users here. Just wondering (for GF1 Jpeg shooters) what Film mode are you guys using? As the default setting makes the JPEG output rather soft and flat, I am using VIB (vibrant) with extra contrast, saturation and sharpness (all +2). The output may appear to be unworldly to some but I like the punchier output as opposed to the default setting

QUOTE(Drian @ Jan 8 2010, 09:42 PM) I just borrowed a Canon 450D with a 50mm F1.8 lens from a colleague of mine and I was doing some image comparison between the two. What is peculiar is that the shutter speed of the Canon 450D was slower than the Lumix GF1 for the same +1EV exposure setting. It was relativly significant 1/160 vs 1/125 for the F1.8 aperture setting. The RAW for both looks similar in brightness. A bit of googling revealed the discrepency. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/PanasonicGF1/page16.aspISO1600 is not ISO1600 for the Lumix GF1 . ISO1600 is ISO2000 for the lumix GF1. This is also confirmed by DXOMark when comparing the three cameras. The Canon is rated ISO1165@manufacturer_rated1600 while the G1 was rated ISO2000@manufacturer_rated1600. Makes you wonder that manufacturers can actually "overdeclare" their ISOs to make their image appear good. Hmm, why is Canon "underdeclaring" their ISO then? Talking about ISO performance, I guess GF1 v1.2 Firmware really made some improvement on that? Can't really spot any obvious difference compare to shooting in Raw

QUOTE(Wuahaha @ Jan 15 2010, 11:36 AM) Woow, that's troublesome indeed. For Panasonic GF1: 1. Just need to download and copy the firmware into SD card and pop it into the camera. 2. Make sure you have full battery power. 3. On the camera and press "Play/Review" to read the firmware and it will prompt to update. Simple as that, same goes for updating Panasonic lenses. Reference: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/.../fts/index.htmlYeah, that's surprisingly easy that I couldn't believe it was updated, till I manually check the version from menu again.

What's wrong with Olympus? They release way too many M43 phones in a short time... don't you guys think it unnecessarily devalues other M43 cameras (especially the Olympus E-P1 and E-P2)? Good thing is, finally new lenses from Oly

Haha... why I typed phone I've no idea I just thought that it seems like a strange strategy from Olympus - they are making different models that compete with each other. Not necessarily good for Oly, bad for existing E-P1 / E-P2 owners (low resale value), but good for more people joining the M43 bandwagon What M43 needs now is more manufacturers joining the alliance (Fujifulm and Kodak are the rumored new joiners)

Haha...E-P1 is still a good camera. It's made of metal instead of plastic
Btw, still no stock for 20mm pancake after checking with a few shops in Midvalley
