Currently what i have in mind is that i want to do a spray paint for my computer casing .
it's d internal part .
1st of all , it's an aluminium material .
2nd , i want spray paint flat black @ matte black @ hitam mati .

So here's d question . . .

1. Where can i get matte black spray paint ? mostly i see in hardware all metallic black >.<"
2. Do i need to spray primer first before spray black ?
3. Do i have to spray clear coat at last ?
4. Can anyone tell me d exact steps to get good spray paint effect ?

What i mean is dat which sand paper grit shud i use n all .
how many layers for primer , black and coat (if have to)
and do i have to sand it after every paint ? even at d last layer of black and last layer of coat ?

anyway , so juz do sanding on d alu to get more gripping on d primer ?
and then use primer on d alu first to get a better colour finishing ?
so , do i have to sand the black color ?
and do i have to use clear coat to make sure that d paint stays there long enuf ?

i want flat black like in million dollar PC wan [MDPC]

hahaha dude , how i wish i could find a black anodized aluminium plate .

regarding d peel off thingy ~ its normal to peel off at screw and moving area .

it is easier to peel off bigger part when not using primer and not sanding it 1st b4 applying primer .

at least dat's wat i think of how it works .

hmm , any other suggestion guys ?
u can refer to MDPC for d matte black interior colour of TJ07 .
if possible i want like dat ><"

actually its a good thing to learn .
cause i see dat its not dat hard , juz dat for perfect spray paint , it'll take time and surely use kinda lots of money .
anyway , for matte black , no clear coat shud be added , it will be glossy .

yeap dat i do know ^^,
heard dat we shud use very low grit like 250 for alu in order to make d primer stick nicely into d alu .
if use like 1000 grit means useless .
its meant for finishing sanding rite ?

im not sure but if u do want quality , u have to bear d method lorh .

1. remove all d grease and wax using soap or something

2. for sanding d metal , i'd say use low grit like 250 or 500 grit sand paper to make d surface rough . its to ensure that when u spray , it will stick nicely to d metal surface.

3. u spray a thin layer of primer and wait for 10 minutes under hot sun . repeat 3 times . let it dry for 1 day and do fine sanding wif 500grit sand paper .

4. repeat step 3 for 3 times .

5. spray a thin layer of color paint and wait for 10 minutes under hot sun . repeat 3 times . let it dry for 1 day and do fine sanding wif 1000grit sand paper .

6. repeat step 5 for 3 times .

7. Apply a thin clear coat layer to have glossy finish . do it 3 times wif 10 minutes interval . let it dry 1 day and do fine sanding wif 1000grit sand paper .

8. repeat step 7 for 3 times .

dat's so far wat i know .
if anything wrong please tell me .
i oso want to know .

its easy to peel off bcos 2 reasons .
d metal surface is oily and u didnt use proper sanding technique .
1st , try to wash or use wax n grease remover to remove all oil and thumbprints .
2nd , use like 250 or 500 grit sand paper to do rough sanding to have a rough surface so d primer will stick nicely onto d surface .

den like i said , 3 layers wif interval of 10 minutes .
its not full spray ok , its juz a very thin layer , so i'd say 1st layer shud make d metal still visible .
after d 3rd layer , u'll get clean thin layer of primer .
den d next day do sanding , clean d sands wif clean cloth , and den redo d whole steps .

but to think again , i think do it once for primer shud be enuf as primer is quite thick .

anyway , i havent done anything wif my casing , its juz a thing to share wif u all since i've read d whole painting methods .

total i think i cant say liao . cause im painting interior and only half of them .
another half im using carbon sticker instead .

so i'd say i nid 2 cans of black , 1 can of primer and 250grit, 500grit, 1000grit sand paper .

and for clear coat im not sure , cause i want matte black i dont think i need them .
perhaps it'll be around RM50 ?

heh biggrin.gif
well i hope this thread will help ppl wif their modding maa .
we do love seeing good paint job .

yeah me also think like dat .
maybe do step 3 for once only instead of 3 times .
anyway , im not sure . will update wif my spray work .
i juz got my casing back from kajang today .
will start doing primer by 2 days time i guess .

anyway , i havent buy any primer for now .
juz bought matte black spray paint for RM6 per can .

Added on June 24, 2009, 7:16 pmow well , i have bought a can of primer , 2 cans of flat black spray paint and 3x240Grit, 3x600Grit, 3x1500 Grit

total of RM28 only biggrin.gif

alamak .
ok aku dah baca balek .

actually camnie cara dia .

spray paint primer 3 layers wif 10 minutes interval .

den wait to dry , den sand using 250grit , followed by 500grit wet sanding .

den spray paint black color 3 layers wif 10 minutes interval .

1st , sand wif 1000grit sand paper , den 1500grit wet sanding , den 2000grit wet sanding .

den last skali , guna clear coat , atau guna wax and sapu rata2 ntuk dpt mirror finish .
lebey kurang camtue la .

and 1 more thing , primer tue kadang2 tulis SURFACER .

primer ngan cat biasa tue laen .

primer tue macam basic of paint la .
kalo nak finishing cantek , kene guna primer .
for example , kalo ko spray paint atas acrylic , without primer , some color dia x menyerlah seperti yg sepatutnyer .
so primer is used for basic color la camtue .

and also , primer is to ensure that d spray paint stick nicely onto metals, plastic and acrylic .
if not it will easily peel off ^^,

so yeah kene primer baru spray paint ^^,

i think white, grey and maroon something like dat .
for striking or fluorescent , go for white , else go for gray or maroon .
