if u bought the share for the price before the dividend then you will get the dividend, if you bought it at the lower price after dividend, then no dividend for you.

The price already factors in the dividend. So doesn't make much difference in effect.

think like this, u buy a share on Ex-date, do u get dividend?
if no, means previous hand got it... tongue.gif

can't intraday... today ex-date, u buy also wont get dividend...
u either buy yesterday, sell today, but the market open price will deduct the dividend out
*
So if tomorrow is ex-date, then if buy today only can get dividend?
Then when can sell ?

Even if intra-day transaction? Meaning morning buy, afternoon sell?
I thought the day after only can sell.

Sigh n0b like me  blush.gif

Hi....Intraday transaction will not get you the dividend. If you buy on the day before ex-date, you need to hold it till the next day to qualify for the dividend. If you buy this morning, sell this afternoon and ex-date tomorrow, you will not get the dividend. You must be holding the shares through both days, the date before ex- until the ex- date. You can then sell your shares on the ex-date but the price has been corrected.

Yeah this is what customers do not like to see and have to hear. This is why I think the new broking house should get your signature on the transfer form and whatever documents they need and liaise on your behalf. It's much more pleasant for the customer but HLebroking did tell me I can do it at a counter instead of going through my remisier but I'm unsure of where exactly..

DIVIDEND :

Today ex-date, ie 15/6/09.
Today price 1.00 closing
Say 3cts div, then tomolo = 0.97

Buy today before 4pm and hold over-night. Say tomolo up from 0.97 to 0.99, u go sell tomolo.

Will u get the DIV? Yes.

But if you SELL today, sorry ya, no DIVIDEND

lol my avg price is 3.28 and i am not complaining?

i think someone holding higher than me ... Omores ?

but the cap gains and dividend payment should keep my complaints to a minimal for the time being. (very much contented with the extra disposable income)

speaking of which, a TM vs AXIATA case, I'd like to think Axiata would be a better buy?

In terms of the sector they're in and also the geography they operate in, Axiata will have a lot of room to grow.
Problem is, dividend won't be there at least for a few years.

TM on the other hand, is more like yesterday's news? Limited organic growth opportunity.?
