simple quick question, i'm changing from 15 to 17 soon, what are the most suitable 215/45/R17 tyre for normal daily driving?
a few tyres that i've come across is hankok V12 and Micheline Premacy LC and PP2

I just changed my tyre, I bought 2 pcs yoko a.drive R1 at HinLeong Klang. Cost me each rm215( without aligment rm10). Anywhere, good job and thanks guys replied me answer  biggrin.gif
*
why yokohama instead of hankok v12?
btw, what car u using? i plan to change to 16" too, but many said not worth it as price is almost the same as 17"
the reason i dont want 17" is rim easily get bend especially taiwan lightweight rims

Because don't have stock there and match with my front a.drive R1.

Actually 16" tyre expensive than 17". Depend what car you wana fit. For 1500cc car, perfer 15" or 16".
*
are you serious about 16 is more expensive than 17?
I'm driving a waja only...still on stock rims, dang hate that rim!

btw, which shop in klang should i visit?

well it is not that true kua... but the price is almost the same... smile.gif
well why not change the stock to nicer 15" rims... what is ur tire size at the moment or what is ur stock size...
well is it R14 or R13??? if R13 it is a bit rare lo if not mistaken... u have only local or indon choices only... sorry can't help more...
*
currently on stock rim with 205/60/R15 tyre size
from what i see, 15" rims can hradly get nice ones...
i've compared the same model rim of 15" and 17", its such a huge difference due to the shorter length, the spoke gets shorter and wider too

hmm ur size a bit uncommon...if you wan to upgrade to 215/50 R16 also can or 225/40 R17 is fine either but  to tell you frankly it seems like ur size is not that common...
*
wait, i think its 195 instead of 205, dang i forgot
i'll go hunt in klang later next week to see if 16 or 17 is better

QUOTE(michael9413 @ Jan 15 2010, 05:55 PM)
haha... well u want extreme tires it is a bit easy to wear off so give and take lo... want low profile and good performance tire then want lasting also no such thing...
i heard that was not bad also but depends what is the tire u had previously used... i used PP2 3~4 set already, when i change to V12 i thought not bad at 1st... but the longer i use the more i know that PP2 is best in Hydroplaning while this is not, so i have to drive a bit slower when it rains with V12 (maybe Vios is a bit too light)sad.gif
remember every tire have the pros and cons choose accordingly to feedbacks... i don mind to go back to the harder sidewall PP2 next change but V12 also not that bad if u have a heavier car...

FYI V12 cheaper than G force sport... 195/55 R15 RM190 only... give that a try it will not disappoint u much... i'm happy with it since i got Comfort, Performance, Noise is acceptable but the only 1 i hope it will improves more is Hydroplaning which i think is the most important to ppl that drive highspeed and travels a lot....
*
may i know whats the cons of having a thicker sidewalls? I'm driving a waja and plan to change my tyre soon, i'm more into Micheline at first, but i've seen quite a lot of good feedbacks about the V12
i saw you mention V12 is more suitable for heavier car, why is that so?

haha... yea but at least we should get a better wet traction tire than save our own pocket and not safer drive...
CC1 is not great... C drive traction in wet ok la... try PP2 or GS-D3, it really differentiate... hydroplaning for PP2 is really good, 100km/h at highway with heavy rain should not be a problem...

*Pls careful when you all drive at Guthrie Highway... i was in my fren's Myvi and the tire give away with even swallow puddles of water and he drove around 80km/h only... my drove that part of highway b4 with that condition i have no problem with my Vios with PP2... at 100km/h...
well not heavier car but Stiffer suspension setup... PP2 is good for softer suspension setup... as V12 has softer sidewall and will adsorbs some harsh humps while PP2 will give you better handling to compensate the handling suffered on soft suspension setup...
if you are driving Waja, u can use 195 width, 55/60 series with ur R15 rims... but again if you wan comfort better use 60 series as it's sidewall is slightly thicker than the 55 series, but 55 series gives u the handling and sportiness...
60 series - Yokohama C Drive or A Drive, Michelin Primacy LC or XM1, Toyo Teo Plus, Falken 912, Hankook V8RS
55 series - Yokohama C Drive or S Drive, Michelin Primacy LC or PP2, Falken 912, GY GSD3, Toyo DRB or T1R

**RED Color is Ultra High Performance Tires, Black Color is Performance Tire, Blue Color is Entry Level Tires

Cheers
*
nice guide, thanks a lot thumbup.gif
does those ultra high performance tires wear off faster than those normal performance or entry level tires? or it should depend on the tyre brand and model?

new shoes for your waja? which maker? brows.gif
optimum should be around 36 - 38 psi. with 1 psi lower at the back if you seldom carry weight. you need to keep the rubber as close to the rim as possible for better cornering and less rolling resistance thumbup.gif

@michael9413@
don't forget to pose a pic of the ps3. are they available in 205/55/r15?
*
hankook, but when i ask the boss there, he suggested me for 30-32, so much lower than what you recommend hmm.gif

@jolipoli81@
huh! my friend's mini of same size is running on 36 psi. so does the upgraded tires of Is200 i used to drive a month back. most of my friend(local and oversea) running higher than 34psi btw.
30psi is definitely too low but 34psi should be fine. and make sure you check the tire pressure when the tire is still cold.
from my experience, lower than 33psi on 17" with low profile tires will caused more rolling resistance thus increase the car's fc.
the closer the rubber to the rims, the better the car handles in corner... tested this in karak hundreds of times  brows.gif

@Apis_LuaLua@
new tires need a run in. after the tires cover about 500km or so, then the true potential can be seen. i used re001 before and it's quite noisy too.
perhaps, due to the tread design.
*
but for our hot climate country, i guess 33 or 34psi should be good enough during daylight due to the heat of the road that could expand our tyres, do you agree?
i remember the boss did tell me to pump lower pressure if i'm travelling back on highway, say from kl - penang, like 2psi lower.

haha... lower pressure means higher FC.. when u ask a F1 driver to do best FC drive they will pump the tire to higher PSI... lower PSI will give you the comfort... but it might cause otehr problem like uneven wear and loose of handling feel at high speed maneuver, the last is increase rolling resistance...
fren even my Vios with 195/55 R15 Hankook Evo V12 (or last time Michelin PP2) also i pump 34 PSI front and 32 PSI rear... 30 PSI is definitely too low...
my 1.3 tonne Old Toy 36 PSI front and 32 PSI rear... that is a cold temperature (recommended by car manufacture) means u should not travel more than 1km to the nearest petrol kiosk... if more than that add another 1~2 PSI... that is what recommended by Michelin and others Manufacture also... tire air pressure will increase around 1~4 PSI during hot but not until 5~10 PSI...
*
wow, i never knew we need to pump that high for even 15", but what is written on the door panel is 29 rear and 31 front for 195/55R15, isn't that way off from what you recommended?

Got my PS3's today....feel a lot of difference with my old BF Goodrichs....first, with tonight's heavy rain, the car never flinched a little cruising at 160kmph, so wet performance is definitely great.....

The tyre also got a thumbs up for my wife who commented that it is more silent and comfortable than the previous set.

Will give further reviews after a touge in C. Highlands with these set of tyres
*
i was told new sets of tyre should be stressed out like that, at least let it run smoothly for around 500km or so, then only start using its full potential performance of the tyre
btw, you said the PS3 was good on comfort, do try the performance and get back to us alright? biggrin.gif

I'm using CC1 for all my 4 tires and claim one tire due to the sidewall suddenly buldge out.

Twice i lock my wheel during emergency braking with this tire , but been driving 130+ on wet and it's not bad at all. maybe i haven't try performance tire before , what would be a good choice of performance tire that is not too expensive ?
*
andy, i'm using the hankook V12 recommended by micheal and I would say I invested in the right place

this thread will be great if the 1st post will include those recommended tyre which is available in our market
for example tyre that determine by size, comfortability and performance, life span

instead of users coming in and ask 'please recommend me tyre size of xxx/xx/rxx'

if you want something with more lasting tread, go for duraplus or those offering from dunlop.
but long life donut tread usually doesn't have a good grip.

ltw82@
nitrogen last a lot longer. no frequent pump.
better stability and handling at high speed due to nitrogen usually runs cooler  thus improves tyres pressure retention.
longer tread lifespan too.
some claim it help in reducing the fc but am not so sure about this.
*
how long should we refill the nitrogen gas?
been using it for almost 4 months now, no sign of losing tyre pressure yet, but is it advisable to deflate and re-pump it?

every 2-3 months once~
jus refill it will do n no need to deflate n re-pump it~
everybody always neva notice d sign of losing air pressure but every month they losing sum air inside n they neva notice it tills it goes very lose n gice bad fc only pump n it's bad for d tires cuz everytime wen there's not enuf air, tires will intend to wear out on both shoulder faster than usual~
*
hold on, are you talking about nitrogen gas, or normal air for the 2-3 months refill?
