But not hard enough. Look what I have done to my rather new PP2 (less than 10k km).

*
tough luck. lucky no damage to your rim.
btw, pp2's sidewall is still a tad harder than it's replacement in ps3.

QUOTE(hungryJack @ Dec 27 2010, 05:04 PM)
Can I know Dunlop Sport 01 205/55/R16 is a good tyre?
I mean in terms of grip in dry or wet condition.
Thank you.
*
dunlop d-01 is made of hard rubber compound which is more suitable for gravel road tongue.gif . can't expect much from it's asking price.
is you're wiling to pay more, there are ps3, hankook v12, or kumho ku-31 to choose from.

QUOTE(nmah @ Dec 27 2010, 06:03 PM)
I am new to tire and hope that all sifu's here can give me some advice.

My current tire size is 195/55 R15 and already been using it for around 4 years now. I travel around 50++ KM daily and most of the time will be on highways.
My friends recommended me to change to Michelin PS3. And i was quote at RM 285 each.

Please give your comments or can recommended something good.

Thanks in advance.
*
about time to change tires. 4 years down the road will caused quite a wear to your current tires.
current price for ps3 should be around 260 bucks each with wheel balancing. check around for better offer.
for normal driving style, yokohama c.drive or continental comfort contact 5 is decent enough with 195/55/r15 pricing should be
less than 200 bucks apiece.

anyone knows where can i buy an original 16" mugen gp wheels?
used or new doesn't matter.
thanks in advance.

p/s: i already had the taiwan version in my garage but it was quite heavy. without tire tip the scale at 7 kg each which is quite heavy for a 16".
i need a lighter set.

ze522 made in indonesia sux big time. wet traction and grip is worst.
yokohama ar01 which is more expensive by about 20 bucks will be a better buy.

QUOTE(michael9413 @ Jan 2 2011, 08:15 AM)
why not try the lenso rims... or advanti... quite ok... i just booked 1 set of Advanti Storm Light Weight version, 4.9kg for 15"... u can try look for it...
*
4.9kg for a 15" is quite lightweight. was it a taiwan or thai made?
i always pair a lightweight rim with heavy tire like re-001.
btw, lenso and advanti is not really my cup of tea. so far, i've only changed between oz racing variety, advan rc2 and 5zigen proracer.
but kinda tempted with the mugen gp wheels after a friendly run with a type-r a month back.

do you happened to know any kumho or federal tire dealer in kl area?

Get profile 45 can reduce the flex ?
*
alternatively, you could pump about 15 - 35kpa higher than recommended pressure.
but tire flex was mainly determined by the material / built.

QUOTE(dRLurve @ Jan 3 2011, 05:38 PM)
hi all sifu, any 205/50/R16 tire to recommend? My stock tire is 185/55/R16. Thanks.
*
limited choice at the moment. most of the shop only keep ze522 (sux!) and few from v8 ventus. also, there is a tire shop in kepong
which happened to keep re001 of those size. then again, you need to check your rim was of 6.0, 6.5 or 7jj.

btw, i just got myself 4 pcs of 205/45/r16 re001 japan made at 340 bucks each last friday. last stock from the shop.
good grip and less wheelspin during fast take off. more confident in wet too thumbup.gif

Thanks for your comment. But 205 50 16 still very good for me. Is re001 potenza gonna give me a longer life span?
*
am currently on re001. a tad better than ps3 in term of handling where it does not flex.
also, wet traction and grip is fine but it's tread wear is a mere 220.
i figure out, i need another replacement at 15k mileage!
c.drive has a 320 rating too and last time, i could only cover about 22k km with it with rotation
every 5k km.
btw, i change my tires while it still had 50% tread left.

my RE001 clocked 36000km soon, 16months usage...
Rotation done every 8000km...
maybe stretch it till 40k-km or 45k-km only change tongue.gif

wonder which tire should go with for next change...?  hmm.gif
*
your re001 could last for 36K? that was good!
i replaced my ps3 at 16.5k mileage with about 50% tread left and go for re001 which does not flex as much. re001 is heavier thou.

guys, anyone can recommend me a kumho tire dealer around kl? i found a few but mostly selling china made ku-37 which is damn cheap but slippery / slip in wet / corner.
i need the ku-31 for direct comparison with other double a rated tire which am currently using.

thanks. i already call kumho office in ampang & batu caves a few days back. both directed me to a few places in maluri and cheras but mostly selling china made ku-37. no luck on ku-31.
call tek ming too; no stock. might try jalan kapar soon.

after using both tire, my conclusion ; ps3 win in term of quietness, comfort and wet(intermediate) traction. but i've had more confidence with re001 on downpour. traction does not differ much but i just feel re001 is steadier! perhaps, this was due to re001 being heavier than ps3.
also, re001 had a much harder sidewall. thus, handling goes to re001.
surprisingly, re001 match the aa rated ps3 in term of braking grip. also, progressive steering feel goes to re001.

price wise, re001 is almost 90 bucks cheaper than ps3(same size).
tread wear rating is 320 for ps3 and 220 for re001, which is quite a drawback as a daily ride.

btw, my next target will be the ku31.

@bro yngwie,
the huge pricing difference is for 16" and above, but for 15" it is almost similar or PS3 is a lil more expensive RM20/tire...

agrees with you on the ride quality and also the performance too but still a lil doubts on the wet...
still because of the stiffer sidewall it prevents me to get it coz i don like my ride to go too bumpy... 1 day i might be try it out but at the moment all my 15" tires is still good...
*
yeah, my 2nd ride is still on 195/55/r15. but main ride burn rubber like no tomorrow.
btw, i did mentioned that the ps3 had the upper hand in wet / intermediate road condition but the re001 feel more planted on downpour.
the rest doesn't differ much . except for the stone hard sidewall on re001 which is good for touge' but bad for town potholes.

remember the thunderer tire i was testing sometimes ago? turn out it was even better than the china made kumho ku-36!
just imagine a ride on gsd3 with softer compound and sidewall. with just slightly less noise level tongue.gif

i just trashed a set(x4) of thunderer mach 3(deep directional tread) to the max.
to be honest, i did not expect it to perform in such a way that it was just a rung below the gsd3 in wet(match the gsd3 in traction but lose out in grip).
alos, behave well after 10 minutes of constant driving at average of 190km/h speed which is expected for a zr rating tire except the rubber could be a little soft in high temperature.
only drawback was it's slightly softer sidewall but this can be countered by pumping in a higher psi. so, far it withstand the punishment
quite well.
easily a better buy than the china made kumho ku-36( i sold mine to a friend after using to 2.3k km mileage while
the thunderer is now transferred to my 2nd ride and it's already covered more than 5.8k km mileage) or the more expensive but lousy 522.

michael9413@
i think you mistaken my comment tongue.gif . i mentioned semi-slick sux in wet and i wasn't referring to thunderer tire at all which is not a semi-slick tire.
so far, this cheap thunderer tire is quite promising. in fact i just transferred the tire to my 2nd ride for further trashing.
was purposely driving at 70km/h during heavy rain in mex highway(after the salak selatan toll to jalan tun razak) the other day and tire did not disappoint.

conclusion ; recommended for those on tight budget but beware of the noise level. ex-gsd3 user should know well whistling.gif .

performance is good considering its cheap price. much better than sime astar300 but noise level is about the same with gsd3.

you need to calculate the big increased in tire and wheels weight / width as well. 205/45/16 tire is usually around 9.5kg/ea + 6.5kg/ea for lightweight 16" rims,
also, 175 and 205 width is quite a lot. there will be a compromise in steering feel, braking capability, speedometer reading, acceleration and fc.
perhaps, you should consider 195/50 or 55/15. bonus; 15" tire is slightly cheaper too.
michelin ps3 of 195/55/15 is around 250 while 205/45/16 is around 430.

xphossis@
you mean the newer conti comfort contact 5? i still put my money on primacy lc. beside being quieter, less flexing during a slightly spirited driving.
but it cost more thou.

lightweight lenso and advanti seem to be the masses choice at the moment. surf around to find one that suit your taste. make sure to get the right size / pcd.

i haven't see the new c.drive in the market yet.

ps3 is an improved version of pp2, especially the wet grip and brake stopping distance but ps3's sidewall still a tad softer than pp2, which
is quite a let down on touge' ride. needed higher psi.

from my own experience(was a yokohama fan until early of last year), comfort and silence goes to a.drive which is more suitable for leisure style driving.
c.drive(old tread) gives a slightly better handling and better grip in wet. also shorter braking distance. fine for a slightly spirited driving style.
choose one that suit your driving style / preference.

currently in Kota Kinabalu for a business setup. went for a tire hunt and i can't believe the China made tire are so popular here.
6 out of 6 shop i visited recommend a GT Radial.
Nangkang, Corsa , GT Radial, Goodride and Thunderer (Thai made)is a 'known' brand but this Pace and a few other funny name which we never
heard of are equally popular. tongue.gif
even saw those RX340 and Land Cruiser (they call it ninja king) here with cheap sub 3xx bucks non branded AT tire.

smallest 12" no brand china made tire already cost 105 bucks. i saw the same thunderer mach 3 tire which cost 220 bucks in kl and it
was around 260 bucks here.
the road is so nice for touge'. just too bad my truck could not use re001 or r888 tongue.gif

you change to new or used tire? rims doesn't generate noise(only vibration on bad condition rims). basically it was down to tire choice.
also, check with your mechanic if the wheel bearing is fine.
