KUALA LUMPUR, 1 JULY 2009 -- Following the successful roll out of its latest network core upgrade, next-generation services would be offered to Malaysians, according to communications provider Telekom Malaysia .
"Customers will now benefit from the convenience and simplicity of having a common platform that can deliver a multitude of services, including the current available voice, Internet and data services such as TM Homeline, Streamyx, Metro-e, TM Direct, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)," said TM group chief executive officer Dato' Zamzamzairani. "The new IP (Internet protocol) core network also enhances interconnection between domestic and international networks, global application service providers, external applications, and between enterprises."
Zamzamzairani said the network migration was implemented in several phases and began with the Internet services. “As part of its network evolution plan, TM has successfully migrated its existing core network onto the latest network infrastructure in order to enable the company to build the transformation path towards next-generation networks and service delivery capabilities in the converging communications world.”
Future-proof platform
“The new core network provides a future-proof platform for TM to deliver a more integrated service proposition,” said Zamzamzairani. “It is capable of supporting large ecosystem of applications and more sophisticated voice, Internet and data services.”
“The convergence of multiple, parallel networks onto a single IP-based infrastructure will enable TM to provide multi class of service (CoS) capable of delivering end-to-end quality of service (QoS) and secure functionalities required to deliver innovative, value-added services to its customers,” he said.
"Our network strategy is always at the forefront of our business plans,” said Zamzamzairani. “Apart from this migration, we shall continue to look for ways to improve not only our network technologies but also to enhance our product mix and customer service capabilities. These continuous infrastructure investments are aimed at making us more competitive in the services that we offer across enterprise and consumer segments going forward.”
“This network migration is one of the key network development and investment projects for TM this year,” he said. “The deployment of this new core network is an important milestone in the history of communications industry as it marks a crucial step for TM in migrating its core network on an all-IP infrastructure.”
“In addition, the new IP core infrastructure will also set the foundation for TM to offer our high-speed broadband services in addition to the switched and access networks such as fibre-to-the-home (FTTH),” said Zamzamzairani. “This technology shift to the new core backbone will enable TM to leverage the increased functionality, customisation via the enhanced capabilities; reliability and scalability required for us to offer any-play services.”
