I see i see.. Cos for Proton Persona im driving now there is a difference.. Shell is totally useless.. Esso is the best though.. Can really feel the difference in the characteristics..

Nvm once i get the Viva ady i will try with different petrols and give some feedback later.

yo guys, the brake of elite ezi feels spongy to my liking and i want to change the brake pad.

any brand (if got seller at LYN even better) to recommend me?
*
U can try Bendix Metal King Titanium.. Cost around RM120 per set for Persona, not sure bout Viva..
Trestor Advantage Blue also very good.
3rd would be Rapid Stop pads..

All 3 pads are available in automotive garage..
For best performance i would recommend Bendix MKT

i heard changing to other brake pads will have screeching noises when braking. is it true?
or maybe applies to p2 cars only.
*
Nope.. Only ceramic pads will have the screeching noise due to the hard compound.. Normal pads wont have the screeching noise after a certain amount of wear in period..

QUOTE(camel90 @ Feb 1 2011, 12:16 PM)
yeap, i bought bendix MKT. hehe
well, i havnt use long enough to give any comment. but yes, it does have screeching noises when braking especially when we brake during jam or during slow speed smile.gif. that's normal for these kind of pads i guess. any sifoo?
*
Not normal for the whole lifespan of the pads lah.. Normally in the initial bedding in period yes.. After sometime its suppose to go off..
If u still have screeching noise and u want to get rid of it just to to a tayar shop to file down the edges of the pad.. They will take the machine and grind the edges off .. The screeching sound is due to only the edge of the pad coming into contact with the rotors when light braking..

QUOTE(noblesse @ Feb 1 2011, 12:31 PM)
maybe not yet wear in yet. give it some time, then see if still got the noise. i just read some forum whereby they say that they give such noises..
i nvr tried bfor though. planning to change my whole brake system to honda soon
*
Wah Viva only want to use Honda system ah?
A better recommendation would be to upgrade to Brembo MAX ventilated slotted rotor disc.. Its good and cheaper than changing the whole brake set.. If u feel the brakes are not powerful enough, upgrade to a bigger brake pump.. However a double servo pump would be an overkill for Viva, u dont want to be locking ur tires everytime u brake... Just a bigger pump will do, mb those Myvi ones.. Halfcut can get less than rm150..

slotted and cross drill rotors will have noise and decrease pad lifespan. rotors alone also rm4xx, might as well opt for honda set. also rm4xx - full set with calipers, brackets, pads and most importantly way larger rotors, permanent solution to p2 brakes nightmare. dont think changing brake pump alone will help. main problem with the p2 brakes are the brake set itself. changing rotors will only solve the p2 rotors warping issues which involves steering vibrating when braking. skimming would help but then again how many times would u want to skim your rotors? aftermarket rotors are good, but for that kind of price, might as well opt for a full brake set. price difference not much.

down side is, require at least 15" rims and above! thankfully im already on 15". gonna get it fixed after cny if god permits and i will give some feedback here smile.gif
*
Icic.. But prepare to suffer some performance loss as the upsprung mass from the bigger disc lah.. Slower acceleration.. and slightly higher FC.. The brake set u are sourcing from is from which Honda model and year? Interested as rm400 very cheap leh.. I also want to upgrade my Persona brakes too..

i see. will keep an eye on that for the next 2 weeks. well, one of the reason i changed the brake pad is because i'm commuting almost 120km a day through highway. sometimes high speed (viva only, not that high speed la) driving when there's no car on the road  smile.gif

BTW, has any of you guys install water temp gauge? i know our engine doesnt need to have that meter, but it should be good to have one i think
*
How high speed? tongue.gif U want better high speed performance i would recommmend to install Denso Iridium 0.4mm plugs.. It gives a huge improvement for me when i installed it in my Persona.. Lesser misfiring on high speed and good low end torque.. Can feel the difference the moment i fixed it.. I still hvnt have time to go down JB to drive my Viva yet.. This CNY will be going to drive it finally. rclxms.gif

Btw i read that viva recommended engine oil is 5w-30 right? not 40 right? for 30 series viscosity i have only seen fully synthetic oil with that grade..
What do u guys use for ur engine oil?

My personal favourite is Castrol Magnatec 5w-40.
I have used Syntium 800 and Shell Helix HX7 for my car.. By far the best is Castrol with huge noticeable difference.

not as high as i would do if i drive a persona, that's for sure la, my car is just a viva lor tongue.gif. hehe.

for engine oil. so far, i only use what perodua sc gave me when i went there for scheduled services. never bother before  blush.gif , i'll keep an eye on that when i go for my service appointment later at 4pm.

i've done
-change to 3-1 extractor (removed the stock one that came with cat con, so now i don't use cat con)
-cheapo muffler (too noisy, will change in future)
-bendix mkt.

i think, the next possible thing to do is per your suggestion, spark plug and grounding cable+VS i guess then. as for spark plug, that can wait i guess. i'll go for the latter 2 first.

ps : i'm super noob in this stuff BTW -,-'.

oh, happy chinese new year to all viva drivers! drive safe balik kampung!  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
LOL.. Viva very bumpy and engine very noisy.. sad.gif
My mom barely drive the car fast.. Most most also 60-80 only.. Tried cornering the car at 70kmh just now and i almost=.=.. !!
How much for the extractor?

I suggest u install spark plug first.. Cos the VS+GC fro erictioh i installed it also.. Cant feel much difference except slightly smoother idling lah.. Other than that cant feel any improvement in FC also.. Cheaper to install plugs too.. XD

i see. well, i'm scouting the price for spark plug right now. denso iridium is it?
oh, yes i'm going for the VS+GC from erictioh as well. cheaper than those branded and from the feedbacks that he got, i think it's worth a try for me smile.gif.

BTW, here's my feedback using bendix MTK for 3 days. the brake is great. no vibration and the grip is good. oh, i can feel my ABS is working extra time to prevent my front wheels from locking up because of using stock 14' tyres from perodua that is almost 50% worn out. LOL =,=. my suggestion to those who are going for the aftermarket brake pad/brake system, change your tyres to the better one first. or else you won't be ultilizing the brake perfomance as it should smile.gif
*
Yeah Denso Iridium.. Make sure its the 0.4mm head one.. Do look out for the writing on the spark plugs to be turquoise in color.. light blue green mix like that.. Imitiation ones comes is dark blue..

smoother ?

do you change the air filter ?
*
Nope my Viva 100% stock.. And i dont think i will be changing any stuffs anytime soon cos my mom will be using it all the time and she just need the car to commute to her workplace and back..

QUOTE(gagak_84 @ Feb 5 2011, 12:19 PM)
noisy because u are using not good oil.. is it feel heavier?
extractor ayam brand ~rm200
change to titanium is already enough
*
Nope it doesnt feel heavy, checked the engine oil level b4..
Hvnt done first service yet.. Thats probably the main reason lah.. Will monitor the car first after 1st service to see any improvements.

I once saw in another forum that Viva can drive up to 80KM after start blinking~~ smile.gif

Anyway, I haven't face the fuel cap problem on my Viva, yet. but u might wanna check if it's the cable problem of due to the fuel cover stuck. Maybe ask someone to try pull while u press de lever in the car?

or probably whoever who faced this problem can advice..  wink.gif
*
Once the fuel light start to blink then I fill full tank can go in 28L.. Since the tank capacity is 36L, so balance is 8L.. Although the 8L is reserve and can be used, its not advisable as the fuel pump needs to be submerged in fuel to prevent overheating.. Im not sure if the Viva fuel pump is the submerged type.. But generally thats the use for reserve tank lah..
My viva consumes 7.2L/100km so far.. So i can easily go 100km if i want.
