I am a hobbyist game developer and my team plan to participate in Dream-Build-Play 2009 (XBox Game Development Competition).
http://www.dreambuildplay.com/

The problem is we need a XBox 360 with the HD version (not Arcade).
Please let me know where I can
1) Buy a unit with the cheapest price (I found a shop in SungeiWang selling for RM 1200)
2) Rent a unit for 2 weeks to a month
3) Borrow (Pinjam) a unit for 2 weeks to a month

As compensation for the Pinjam, you would get 10 copies of our free game (haha), or we could work out some monetary compensation.
If you are worry about letting your unit go for 2-4 weeks, I could drop by your place during weekend perhaps (if you allow me) and work at your place for a couple of hours.

Friendly and Generous Citizens of Lowyat.NET, please help our poor team of aspiring game developers smile.gif

Get a new one. When your done with it, then just sell it off.

Since your working as a team, each one should just share the cost?

Good luck with it.

By taking part in the competition, I would automatically have the XNA creator club membership smile.gif

It seems there is no special console needed (based on my research).
Just VS2008 + XNA Studio + XNA Club Membership, and of course Xbox Console for testing.

You can develop the entire game without a console, but you have no way of knowing the game will work on xbox or not.

For XNA you don't need the black dev kit. Standard 360 with HDD will do.

It was stated in the website: http://www.dreambuildplay.com/ that the membership is free for 12months.

Yes, free USD 99 worth of XNA club membership, if you plan to develop games for xbox.

this is the thing that i know about developing for XNA.

1. yes you can use normal console with HDD to develop games.
2. you will be asked to download XNA Visual Studio Suite and the XNA Dev Kit (which contains some sample game codes)
3. you will have access to the support website and a lot of other sample projects.

i registered XNA when it was free. biggrin.gif so far haven't got time to do anything with it.

XNA is always free, just that to run the code on the 360, you need a Creator's Club membership.

Anyway.. good luck!

We are building a "friendly" and more creative platform game, a simple one.

You don't need to access Xbox Live from the Console for Game Development. Just need to load the game into the HDD. Anyway, the competition didn't blacklist Malaysia.

Yes, still looking for it.
Might give up last minute, or spend RM 1200 to get one, hahaha.
Building game is interesting, but I don't do it for full time.
