i never liked the ds-1 and have no idea why ppl rave so much about it.
japan / taiwan / whatever all crap.
ds-2 no idea, but i would assume its almost the same sounding.

if u push ur budget abit higher, can also check out marshall pedals.
lower budget, behringer GDI21.

Honestly, you get a better sound from these pedals if you try them on a slightly overdriven channel (rather than fully clean). Nice way to get a smooth solo tone.

But depends what you want to do with the pedal - i.e. rock, blues, etc. For heavier stuff, I'd go for something like the MT-2..

But do check out the Vox Satchurator. Much nicer sounding than the DS-1 in my opinion...

I wouldn't be too sure about a metal master, I have one, and the only thing it's good for is for my metal needs. Otherwise, it's just expensive paperweight. Honestly, it's getting a little stale for my metal needs too anyway.

I would go for an SD-1. It's just nice for me when I play softer stuff, but I dunno bout you. What amp are you using anyway? A boutique pedal won't do much if you're plugging it into an average MG.
