I'd LOVE to be proven wrong but.. motion detection WITHOUT the use of an identification device (ie the WiiMote) or any sort of specific play area (ie. a dancing mat) means motion detection via image recognition. Unless there's some sort of calibration process the device cannot know who is the player and who isn't. So my son running around would just make the thing go crazy.
Another problem with motion detection via image recognition should be apparent to people who use the Eye Toy and LiveVision. You need to ensure proper lighting. Of course all the things you see in the video now is what MS WANTS the thing to be (note the product vision disclaimer at the start of the video) and not really how it works right now. I want to be proven wrong, I want this to work. But I can't see how it can work so seamlessly well. Added on June 2, 2009, 10:11 amOK.. just finished watching the intro video.. NO FARKING WAY. I want to be proven wrong, but right now I'm gonna say there's no way everything is gonna work that smoothly. This post has been edited by marauderz: Jun 2 2009, 10:11 AM |

I'm guessing the camera has a limited field of vision... probably limiting the subject in the center of the camera... i'm sure itll have its problems... but motion (and voice) recognition has been lacking in advancement for awhile... probably we are in for a surprise. I was thinking about the limited field of vision too. But, then they show the part where they said you can use it to control your box, use it to slide through the panels.... can't do that if you have a limited field. As for voice recognition... oh.. that'll never work! |

Controlling the blades on the dashboard for instance should be only limited to your hand movements. Voice recognition its a bit of challenge though. No idea how itll handle words flying around. Probably a chosen trigger word. You can call your 360 'sayang'.... hahahha.... "sayang, off"... lolzzzz |

It's good to see Microsoft experimenting with non-traditional user interface. 2 years ago they gave us Surface. And now this.
Granted there will be teething problems but this is a step forward in user interaction. Holodeck anyone? This post has been edited by MK84: Jun 2 2009, 12:08 PM |

Milo I think got a bit problem?
Cause you see, everyone has their own way of saying? So can the game still recognise what you are trying to say if you twist the way you talk? |

that milo thing could just be a proof of concept. I doubt we're at that level yet with speech recognition.

That just seem too good to be true man...
I truely dont think its going to work seamlessly... even wii controller sometimes fail to register your movement, not to mention a motion capturing. THis is just too perfect, never think its going to be possible this gen or even next gen. But if its true, it might be an evolution of gaming, although i am not too keen of playing my game and being tired in the end. But the football game seem pretty awesome.... |
