Heh, saw the news a few days back. Was deliberating starting the GH5 thread but then i realised at the same time it's probably better to start a comprehensive plastic mat rock thread... and then apathy set in..

Also note, it's being released a week before Rock Band: Beatles which is coming out on 9.9.09. Hopefully it's not too rushed.

I like some of the game modes like "momentum" which is ideal for a journeyman like myself. Although isn't band moments and reviving band members ripped off from rock band?

I personally prefer the GHWT guitar over the RB1 wired fender.

Maybe it's because I started on the WT but i prefer the feedback i get from the clicks to tell me if i'm strumming to rhythm. The knob for the xbox button also makes more sense than the dpad on the RB1 guitar which seems to be upside down for some reason.. The button for star power seems ideally placed as you'd use the base of your palm for muting, although that seems counter intuitive to tilting for star power.

The only problem with the GHWT guitar is that the ghey touch strip doesn't work in RB1 (OK maybe it's not a problem since it's ghey). Either way, both guitars aren't helping me complete Molly Hatchet - Flirting with Disaster.

Don't bother. The WT Drums are broken out of the box,or if they aren't,they will be.
You might as well wait for a new revised drumset that DOESN'T use glue for soldering XD
CHILDREN OF BODOM YEARGH!!
Rock Band has Cannibal Corpse  cool2.gif
But Guitar Hero 5 has Gorillaz  hmm.gif
*shot*
*
Pff.. you know whatever GH has will eventually come out as DLC right? tongue.gif It's about 9 new songs per week that are less annoyingly charted.

More on Guitar Hero 5 song import, DLC support (Band Hero will do it, too)

by Randy Nelson { Aug 10th 2009 at 1:00PM } Xbox Nintendo PlayStation

Yes, Guitar Hero 5 is getting all modern-like and letting those who buy it -- and own other GH games -- access all those songs they already bought (on disc or in DLC form) without firing up another title. GH5 and the upcoming Band Hero will work with songs from the Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Smash Hits game discs, along with GHWT DLC -- even on Wii.

PS3 and Xbox 360 owners who own GHWT will be able to download a free update from within GH5 that enables DLC backwards-compatibility (for 152 of 158 available tracks) and adds new GH5-specific features to their existing DLC. In order to rip the tracks from GHWT and SH discs will need to purchase what Activision says will be a "nominal re-licensing fee" and have the unique 20-digit code on the back of the games' manuals. As with Rock Band 2, all songs from the discs will be ripped to the systems' hard disks, but unwanted tracks can be individually deleted.

The process will be similar on Wii, with a couple noteworthy differences. First, DLC must be re-downloaded (to add new GH5 features, plus they'll sound better) either en mass or track-by-track to the Wii's internal memory or (thankfully) SD card. There'll also be an individual song copy option for importing disc-based songs from GHWT. Now to find out what those six DLC tracks that aren't supported are ...
Thought this might be of interest.

Also, according to http://hub.guitarhero.com/vanhalengameoffer/ lucky ****** in the US get GH:Van Halen free with GH5... Even though i'm no fan of Van Halen, It'd would be nice to get a free game with GH5. I doubt our local distributors will be offering that..

Added on August 19, 2009, 3:56 pmMore guitar hero news for those who might have an interest.

New Era is listing the local release date as Sept 16.

http://www.neweragames.com.my/related_game...y={RhythmGames}

As you can see, currently, they only have Game and Guitar Bundle up online.

Perhaps the RMAs of the early batches of GHWT band kit scared them off?

The avatar thingy is so cute esp if your family is the band. Just so cute.

The GHWT import thingy cost 280 MS points though. sad.gif

Eh? that's cheap - less than the cost of 2 songs.

But I've paid for the game already. So that's double dipping in my books.

You can't import unless you have the unique ID from the GHWT game manual. THis unique ID is only usable once.
*
I've got both smash hits and WT and i'll probably import them both. 560ms points for having 200+ songs without having to swap discs is more than worth it for a lazy guy like me.

The thing is you can also sell your GHWT advertising it as code used for more than the cost of the MS points and you'll probably come out with a profit. (which is what i plan to do).

Exporting songs is also the main reason i'm so desperate for Rock Band 2. 250+songs from only needing 1 disc is pretty awesome if you ask me.

edit: it's better than paying 260(? not sure) for the guitar in the avatar marketplace.

Valid argument. I accept.

Actually, I already paid for the import thingy last nite, so I'm not really complaining about the 280MSP in value terms (i know it's not much), rather the principle behind it. Still think it's double dipping in my books. tongue.gif

But be prepared though .... the GHWT comes in at a weighty 1.2GB iirc.
*
Oh actually my argument is not so valid. I had originally assumed that ALL the songs would be available for import into GH5 (maybe barring 1 or 2 songs) rather than just the 35 songs the above poster mentioned. SO WHERE ARE THE OTHER 51 SONGS?!?!?

Which means I can't actually sell GHWT until they make all the songs available for import.

(GHWT is actually installed on my HDD so if i was importing songs into GH5 I would actually save some space.)

Just a short review of the new guitar:

Fret buttons are a lot more responsive and feel a lot better than the WT one.
Tuning pegs are now chrome plated so you don't have to use the silver pen mod.
Strum bar is more responsive. Still clicks but somehow seems a lot noisier than the WT guitar. It's now covered with a rubber coated finish. I don't know how durable this is but i'm hoping it doesn't disintegrate after a few months.
The xbox dial along with the star power button and select buttons are also now covered with the same rubbery finish. Question marks as to the durability of the material used.
Haven't really used the touch strip - and i still can't bring myself to learn how to use it so can't comment here. However, there are markings on the neck so you can see what colour you're pressing down on and there are indentations on the touch strip for more precise positioning. Thanks to touch sensitivity, it's still hopeless for HOPO legato style playing but I can see it being very useful for sliding.
Pickguard is painted on... right down to the pictures of the screws on the pickguard. I was really hoping that they would use a real pickguard on the guitar rather than just a picture of one. Still the finish is ok and i would say it's an improvement on the last one.

I thin GH 5 is going back to its roots. Not having the drum kit at launch is pretty confusing, but i think they wanna focus a band experience instead with Band Hero.

Nah band hero is guitar hero for the family with more family orientated pop songs.

from their wikipedia entry.

"ABC" Jackson 5
"American Pie" Don McLean
"Black Cat" Janet Jackson
"Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" KT Tunstall
"Dirty Little Secret" The All-American Rejects
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" Poison
"I Want You To Want Me" Cheap Trick
"If You Could Only See" Tonic
"Just a Girl" No Doubt
"Let's Dance" David Bowie
"Love Story" Taylor Swift
"Picture to Burn" Taylor Swift
"Oh, Pretty Woman" Roy Orbison
"She Will Be Loved" Maroon 5
"Sugar, We're Goin Down" Fall Out Boy
"Take Back the City" Snow Patrol
"Take What You Take" Lily Allen
"Thnks fr th Mmrs" Fall Out Boy
"Turn Off the Light" Nelly Furtado
"You Belong With Me" Taylor Swift

Duffy, Duran Duran, Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue and the Spice Girls will all feature in the game as well. Avril Lavigne, Blink-182, Jesse McCartney, Pink, The Go-Gos and The Killers will also be on the disc.

I think it's coming out to compete directly with lego rock band.

edit: oh and whammy challenges are stupid.
