QUOTE(Keng @ Mar 24 2012, 02:06 PM) I wanted to but there's no way i could do so if i wanted to visit the north west side of south island You can go pass Arthurs Pass to CHC, then go up north through Kaikoura->Blenheim->Picton->North IslandOn the way back you can just directly fly from AUK to CHC and back home. Much more time right? |

From Blenheim to Nelson requires 1hour +- only, just the road not that great (or you can try the Kaikoura->Nelson road).
Nelson is one of the best Summer time place. Abel Tasman & Golden Bay in summer is gorgeous!! Pic's Peanut Butter, also a must try!! Makes me wanna go back now... |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Ah, too bad no more AAX to go CHC... need to waste more money flying to south. I suggest skipping if can... not much to see there anyway. Focus on Queenstown->Milford Sound->Central Otago (for Wine!)->Dunedin->Oamaru-> and maybe... Kaikoura? You can do whale watching & seal swimming, and eat crab fish there too! (if cannot, at least go Akaroa) Penguins will come ashore all year long, not only winter, at Oamaru and Dunedin. Do research more about them from website (time they walk back to colony) if you want to take a look. Official/I-SITE do provide the times when you arrive there. |

QUOTE(youngman28 @ May 22 2012, 03:59 PM) Ok, look more pratical, No, don't skip Mt. Cook, the view is awesome and good tracking sites!Another suggestion is you might consider skip Mt Cook on day 4 , and shaft in Wanaka, Wanaka is a beautiful city with Lake that worst yr a day visit. For my South Island trip , i not rent any GPS, but keep a ipad and download some map, and google it when u are missing, The difficulties i face is Christchurch which is quite big and more car, while others tourist city is quite straight forward , using the map from i-tourist will be good enough. Wanaka basically a quiet version of Queenstown where you can have the same activity and good sights but fewer people, not much to do except some tours. If you been to Queenstown, it's not worth staying for long. I don't have any electronic guidance when I'm there, take a free AA or YHA map. The road are just that straight forward that you won't get lost, plus that it isn't Malaysia where every sign board, there is a tree blocking it... |

QUOTE(Listiani @ May 23 2012, 09:22 AM) I won't skp Mt Cook because my husband wants to try the Glacier Explorer. Quite expensive though. NZ140 but hey!! it's not everyday we can experience this Glacier Explorer is the boat trip in the lake? Consider acceptable price in NZ... cannot compare with our price here.Yeah, I thought that too. Can you imagine, we never lost our way driving around in Western Australia. But I couldn't find my way in Shah Alam because the signboard so confusing What is AA and YHA?? Sorry for the noob question AA = New Zealand Automobile Association - aa.co.nz YHA = Youth Hostels Association - http://www.yha.co.nz Map can be acquired from I-SITES, the best one is YHA map. Great detail and with all the YHA discount listed. Glacier Explorers (Mt Cook) - 15% discount AJ Hackett Bungy - FREE gift Skyline Queenstown - $10 off Lots more... go take a look |

QUOTE(Listiani @ May 25 2012, 12:18 PM) Yeah, for their currency is normal but for me is expensive It's better to bring flavour packs rather than cans... imagine a can weight around 300-400g (not sure, I don't have any cans around). You can buy can food there cheap. Beans, spaghetti (not main food) can get as low as $1 per can. Better ones (main food) around $2-$2.5 per can.OK, noted on the map from AA and YHA. Tks a lot. Another question, is it ok to bring canned food (like chicken curry canned food) from Malaysia to NZ? They won't consfiscate upon arrival?? About bringing food, you concern about halal food? QUOTE(yiyibrowers @ May 25 2012, 01:18 PM) is there any way to become AA member if we were Malaysian? B'cos I remember my previous trip there is AA special rate for rental car... Visit them when you go there, I've never join AA before so not sure. I only know AA's car Insurance... |

QUOTE(Listiani @ May 26 2012, 11:17 AM) Those Maggi/Yeos/Bla bla bla that makes it easy to cook, curry flavor/rendang/"chao mian" (not same as Chao Kui Tiao here...)QUOTE(youngman28 @ May 26 2012, 01:15 PM) I think you can bring in any food, but pratically in small pack (soft pack), provided you declara on the arrival form. To save cost, find Backpackers/Motels with self cooking facilities with all the spices & oil... so you don't need to buy there and bring along lots of stuff. *(that's what I bring in my car... box and more boxes of food)Try to get the good/food pack it and wrap it nicely. For own cooking, i sugest u buy yrs own cooking pan they ( if u are bumi), while others food ingredient can find it easily in the supermarket, some asian food can find it in Queenstown chinese store. Veg like brocolli, onion, potato, tomoto, carliflower can get it cheaply they. Some expensive food/ ingredian suggest you bring over:- Garlic -NZD 15+/kg Curry / chili powder/paste - quite expensive Chicken/beef/ikan bilis cube fr Kross/Maggi - to cook soup, the meal/bone is expensive and difficult to find Ajinomoto White pepper Hope this help Actually spices isn't that expensive if you buy Budget/Homebrand/"cheap brands". For food ingredient, find seasoned food (means food produced at that time). Also, try buy food ingredients from Farmer's Market, those are the cheapest/most fresh vegis you can get! Cheap too! Garlic can get for NZD10/kg or even less!! |

QUOTE(Listiani @ May 26 2012, 08:46 PM) I was abt to say the same thing Yea, that's why I said buy those flavour packs (Maggie, Watties, Continental). Just heat the pan/pot, pour in the flavour, put in some ingredient like onions/garlic, put in meat/chicken, serve with rice or noodles, done.I don't plan to cook like we cook at home. Just simple nasi goreng or spaghetti will do. That's why I was thinking to bring canned food. Easy and simple. Just heat it up and can eat already. I don't plan to cook everyday though. We will eat out for sure. Or getting can food like Pams, Campbells, Watties, Sealord... also get some ready made salads from supermarket. |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Do note that there's no highway in NZ, so if Google Map says 1 hour, expect to drive 1.5hour or more - Salmon farm in Lake Tekapo, lots of wine tasting in tourist area. Seafood Day 1 (11th Nov) You drive? If so, put some time in Arthur's Pass. Not much to do in Greymouth, I suggest you skip. For the Glacier, you can only view it from afar unless you join a tour. Btw, that's a lot to do in just 1 day! Day 2 (12th Nov) If you join a tour (min 4 hours), you still want to drive all the way Day 3 (13th Nov) Day 4 (14th Nov) Day 5 (15th Nov) Why return to Queenstown? Just stay overnight in Dunedin, lots to do/visit there! Or you can overnight in Oamaru for the blue penguin colony Day 6 (16th Nov) Cromwell in Spring? Skip it, spend your time in Mt. Cook! Day 7 (17th Nov) Another whole day of driving Day 8 (18th Nov) This post has been edited by fallout: Oct 23 2013, 11:28 PM |

QUOTE(X-Zen @ Oct 24 2013, 10:06 AM) Thanks for the tips bro The half day glacier tour, you need to join in a tour to walk up the glacier.Day 1 - Noted. Will skip Greymouth since you mentioned the journey may be longer than what Google Map says Day 2 - Sorry which tour your are referring to that is 4 hours? Day 5 - Thanks for the suggestion Day 6 - Ok will do that Day 7 - Remember there's an accident happen like 2 years ago (See here)? It's dangerous to walk near a glacier because it's constantly melting and breaking. If you don't want to join a tour, you can only view it from afar. |
