Hi guys,

I need your advice here:-

SGD 1.00 = RM 2.40
AUD 1.00 = RM 2.80
AUD 1.00 = SGD 1.10

Tat's mean if i use my SGD to convert all to AUD and then convert back to RM, I will gain alot on this? Anyone try this before?

ok, let say my salary is SGD 2,500 per month

If I dun convert to AUD, I straight convert to RM, I will get RM 6,000

If I convert to AUD 1st, I will get AUD 2,273, ok I will take AUD 2,273 bring back M'sia to convert to RM and I will get RM 6,364.

I will gain RM 364.

What's ur view on this?

Agreed, Singapore is a boring country. Even entertainment wise is way more expensive than KL.

QUOTE(seantang @ Jul 4 2009, 12:49 AM)
You are right. Employers look at 'the paper' AND your personality & performance. I emphasise the word "AND".

If your selling point is 1st class honours, there will always be competitors & peers who have 1st class honours just like you.

If your selling point is performance, there will always be competitors & peers who have good performance just like you.

The trick is having both a good education AND good performance. Then you're a complete package.

If you didn't do well at school... I'm sorry but to me, you just tied one hand behind your back for the rest of your professional life. You may have great performance but you will always lose to the the guy who also has great performance as well as a 1st class honours.

Of course, lots of people with a lower end education are still very successful... no doubt at all. But I'm willing to bet with you that they are very aware of their educational disadvantage and are always positioning themselves to make up for it. You won't find them simply dismissing their weaknesses by saying "it's not very important".

And if you're just starting your career, education is more important than you think. If you have 10 or 20 years of solid work experience, then you can say that you have proven yourself despite a poor education. Employers can accept that because your track record is longer and more recent than your education.

But if you're a fresh grad or have only a few years of experience, employers will think this way... this chap has 3-4 years of good experience but he messed up 10 years of education (secondary + uni). The impression will be that you're not a solid dependable person. Out of the last 14 years of your life, you've managed to screw up 70% of it. Then they will start doubting whether your 3-4 years of experience is really as strong as you made it sound in your cv and during the interview. Why? Because your allegedly good work performance is completely inconsistent and opposite of your poor performance during your education. Can a leopard change its spots? A suspicious person will choose to believe the more objective evidence (ie. your "paper") rather than what you said during your interview.

Lastly, whenever you look at the programs or brochures for professional seminars or forums, the speakers or presenters always list their educational qualifications (including the honours, distinctions and which unis their degrees came from) besides their professional experience. Why do you think they do that? If it's not important, why don't they just leave it out? It's part of their overall package. Their personal brand. You want everything in the package to look good.

Wow, a great advice you have here. I believe it will benefit a lot of us here.

If you guys visit Kopitiam or this thread move to Kopitiam, I am confident u will see many ppl bashing Singapore kind of replies.

There are many Malaysia bashing Singapore threads lately.

Anyhow, I love Singapore.

Malaysia will always be my home but I will of course support whatever's best for me, not some dubious social contract that someone's grandfather supposedly signed on my behalf.

Kiasu vs ketuanan... I'll take kiasu anytime.

Wow, finally Seantang came to the Singapore rescue with your firery and factual replies.

Yesterday, there is a thread in the Kopitiam whereby many anti-Singaporeans suggested to destroy the Causeway and 2nd Link so that all Singaporeans/PRs will be trapped in the small island forever.

Anyhow, I am with the same opinion with you. Kiasu vs Bumi Privileges, i rather being a kiasu. Bcos of kiasu, Singapore is able to turnaround itself from a remote island nation into a metropolian well-known worldwide.

Totally agreed. Actually not bcos of we hate Malaysia. It is bcos our gomen makes us to do so, bcos of this, we chinese have no choice but to move to other countries that at least could offer better opportunites.

Even Singapore respect other races. Provide equal opportunities among the races, even signboards, MRT annoucements all are in 4 languages. Can Malaysia do so?

and bcos of that, Malaysia <insert race here starting with the letter "M"> jealous about Singapore and continue to bash Singapore.

Just like this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1108145

Wow, Singapore CPF contribution for employee portion is 20%...

Tat's mean your take home pay is lesser and lesser..

Furthermore, unlike EPF in Malaysia, you can't withdraw all your funds once you reach 55, CPF Board will only release your savings to you by installment.

This is why some ppl refuse to apply for PR and intend to continue to with just an EP or WP status.

I believe all of our laptops, portable HDD, pendrives, iPODs, iPhone contents are saved with pirated movies and porns... what so big deal about that?

Unless u are watching movies using an original CD inserted into your CD drive.
