I wish for that also but I finished my work at 10.20pm today. On December and January, it is usually around 10.00pm to 11.00pm and it is a 6 days a week type of job.

10-11pm every night for 6 days a week?

I hope they pay you very, very well for that notworthy.gif

minimum by law i think 14 days... then 1 day for each year of service...

7 days is the minimum under the Singapore Employment Act. Add 1 day per year of service until max 14 days. However the act only applies to someone whose salary is below $2000.

SG Employment Act

So like I said... for most if not all the people in this thread, it's according to your employment contract.

Yeah, MCA will lead Malaysia into "Strengthening" phase.

All the Wanita MCA candidates must have voted for Mr Energizer Bunny... twice... like in the DVD.

Although jailing a man for sodomy is ridiculous, making CSL the President of MCA is also a bit... doh.gif

Judging from the last 5 years history of SGD-MYR exchange rate, it shouldn't go below 2.25. 2.30 looks to be a long term support. If it breaks below 2.30, then 2.25 is the next one. If it goes below that and stays there... we might have something to worry about.

Potential for 2.45 in the future if the SGD bounces back.

Yahoo rate is 2.3378 today.

But I guess it certainly looks like the end of a good 2 year run for the SGD vs the MYR.

Die liao.. die liao...

I heard RM vs SGD will be like RM2.00 = S$1.00 for the next 3 yrs at least.

Was the person who told you, a very, very rich person?

Like George Soros, Warren Buffett type of rich too... because if anyone can predict the size and time of currency movements... he HAS to be a very, very rich person.

@seantang, I'd wager it'd be around 15-25k sgd/month

Good guess...

Above the Asst Dir is a Deputy Dir, and then Dir. The big govt organisations have Senior Dir.

My guess is that Directors are the entry point for the Administrative Service at Superscale SR9 (2008 annual package was S$399500 but reduced to $338100 in 2009 due to the recession). Btw, average entry age into SR9 is 32 years old. Read this... veeeery interesting esp. the appendices.

Further guess... if Dirs are around... $25K per month (average of 338K & 399K divided by 15 mths ie. 13 mths salary plus 2 mths bonus)...

Deputy Directors should be around $20K (18-22?)...

Asst Directors should be around $15K (13-17?)...

Good guess, man... I reckon.

Anyone actually know an AD in the civil service?

Seantang,
Do you think those ppl would lurk around in lyn if they are so UP there?

Not them personally in LYN lah, of course... but you never know tongue.gif Maybe someone's heard/seen something or know someone. Amazing what clerks and secretaries might know.

Just that I've seen many adverts for ADs, a couple for DDs. But never for Dir itself, which leads me to think that Dirs are internally identified rather than externally recruited. Interesting to know what's out there, you know.

Thanks. That puts them around AVP to VP level at the banks. That helps.

Is that Big4 partner on Linkedin? If he is, it's be good to get connected.

some place only have DyDs (no AsstD but many Mgr) and one SDir (No Dir) because only one person that make the call. It all depend on how the company want to distribute the "power". Yes, you have to be the "right" minded people to be appointed the Dir or SDir, not just your performance.

In some case, Dir is going to retire. Due to some reason, He/she prometed to SDir (may not be full time) and the new appointed Dir is the one who hold real power. (smile.gif maybe we will have Dir Mentor in future)

haha... average age for SR9 is 32. I wish i am somewhere near there. We have abundant of over 45yo, they are not even close to that. But there are special case where a mid level (DyMgr, Mgr) is on super scale.

r1v3r, sounds like you're an insider. Which govt dept are you at? How's the environment? I know the Sg civil service loves their scholars. How about mid-career external hires? Do they get to compete with scholars on equal footing although they came in later?

Hmm.. 9.5k-14k eh.. I was expecting much higher since I was under the impression the Singapore's Civil sector pays competitively compared to private firms. Oh well, it's good to know.

That's not competitive?

Looking again at the job description... it's really not that complicated a job leh.

Thanks for the comments, r1v3r. Good to know the insight behind civil service jobs.

About the particular job scope I posted.., it's not something I'm going for right now. I saw it in jobstreet and felt it was quite similar to others I have seen. So I was curious what kind of salary is associated with this level of govt job.

Our finance team has about 60 people in Singapore, with about 10 managers and 1 director. A few of those managers do not have anybody reporting to them. Why do you ask?

all position is fall within some salary range. Once you hit the limit, either you stop having any increment or promote to higher rank.  If the same Dir sit there for donkey years (if he is on superscale, it take donkey years to hit his limit), you either have senior and capable staff left the company or end up with many manager waiting to play musical chair. In your case no DyDir or AssDir for the manager to move on.

It's the same even in the private sector.

If there's no vacancy, you don't get the promotion. Unless of course, you're on the hi-po or future leaders list where you will get rotated and promoted no matter what. Pretty much the same as the Admin Serv in the govt.

Half of the Singapore cars come to jb hold malaysian passports lol, so it dont matter which national holiday.  Even during normal days it takes me about 1.5 hrs from the causeway back to home in JB and it really makes me wonder sometimes if taking bus is faster than car.

Malaysian drivers of Singapore cars get Singapore public & school holidays, not Malaysian ones.

The big jams are usually during Singapore holidays and primarily outgoing from Singapore at the start, and incoming to Singapore at the end.

Here's an idea. Take a flight instead. Whatever the holiday, the number of flights are the same, give or take a couple of extra flights.

QUOTE(Mackiddo @ Apr 4 2010, 03:24 PM)
the saving is quite a lot. You could save more that 50% on rental and food alone. Even liquor and cigarettes are cheaper. with a bike in jb, it's really easy to go around, at least better than taking mrt and bus in Sg. The only inconvenience is the jam during rush hour and this is coming from someone who have stayed in jb before.

The savings is not a lot lah. 50% is just a few hundred dollars if you're single. Not worth the hassle, lost sleep and stretched patience to stay in JB, in my opinion. And the risk of being late for meetings and events is quite real. Miss a big meeting... and it becomes a career limiting move.. costing way more than the savings in the long run. And if you often need to attend business dinners or functions at night, imagine having to return to JB each time... and then coming back to Sg first thing the next morning.
