Hey guys,

I'm getting a new rig this weekend but I'm pretty confused on which graphic card I should get. It's definitely going to be a Radeon cuz I've been using ATI cards for a long time.
Right now, I'm considering Sapphire 4890 OC and Sapphire 4870 Toxic 1GB.
It looks like an obvious choice in terms of performance but another factor that I'm considering here with my purchase is fan noise.
I heard that the 4890 is really loud and I share a room and tend to prefer gaming at night so it's pretty important that my PC isn't too loud.

I initially had my eyes set on Sapphire's 4890 Atomic but I doubt it'll be here by this weekend.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my PC sits about a meter from me on the floor. (for noise)

4890 and gtx275 also at the same price point, gtx275 more worth it, why dont consider nvidia cards?

value for $$$ indeed, the CF HD4770 but the HD4890 does has its merits.

it's still faster here and there, less hassle and overall lesser heat generated.

and don't have to worry about CF issue cos the HD4770 performance ultimlately depends on whether the application supports CF well.

I would go single 4890 instead of CF 4770. Not all games supports CF. Go straight for 4890 since the price difference with 4870 1GB is so little. You get at least 10% more performance. Hopefully 4890 has quieter heatsinks by the time you buy it.

dont forget if go hd4770 CF
you need a CF capable board too .
a nice casing that has very good air flow - to reduce the heat produced

as goldfries mentioned that , not all app support CF

Got more info from user reviews on Newegg. Apparently the 4890 (stock cooler) is only loud when manually setting the speed above 50%.
Is this true, 4890 users?

PS: I don't overclock graphic cards. I usually just leave them on auto.

My 4890 is only loud on hot weather but of course I'm using CM690 casing with almost all high performance fans installed plus I glued 12cm 90CFM blowing at my 4890. My PC is sitting next to window too.

this is true for the most part. smile.gif

i have a HD4890 with me and i didn't notice the fan noise.

performance wise I'm inclined to say I'd go for HD4890 for the sake of less hassle despite having a little more cost there.

I don't plan on putting that many fans lol. But I will be using a pretty good casing. CM Sniper with probably an extra 200mm fan added in if i can find the correct model. My room's air conditioned too anyway. =)

So I guess for now 4890 is my best choice huh? Aite, will keep note on that. Thanks guys.

No love for 4870 Toxic 1GB?

Shouldn't be noisy with air cond. My 4890 is completely silent while gaming when I turn air cond on.

Like I said, the price difference is so little. Might as well get a 4890 instead. You will be using a good casing plus air cond if necessary too.

TristanX mind giving d temperature at idle and load for d 4890 ?

and for TS , normally overclockers will turn up d fan speed to cool down the graphic card as they overclocked it to certain lvl .

if u could consider getting nvidia based graphic card , y not u try ask cstkl1 for his zotac amp GTX285 for RM1150 .
its truely cheap for d product .
new one cost RM1600+ i think .

if im in ur position , i would give this deal highest priority .

52C idle, 64C load for my casing using auto fan speed. 5-10C more on hot weather.

Nvidia isn't really an option for me anymore. I've had 2 NVidia cards crap out on me. Changed to ATI after that and haven't changed my GC in almost 3 years+ now.
Maybe it's just my bad luck with NVidia, but I'm definitely sticking with ATI from now on.
