dats how u read the marking on the lens...

if it say f4... meaning... all the way of the zoom from start to end 70-210... the widest it can open is at f4..

but with f3.5-4.5... mean... at 70mm... the brightest is f3.5.... and at the end 210mm is f4.5

it wont say the smallest opening... but i guess it is really small around f30++ maybe..

thx~~, i'm not so familiar with the lens history, as i know its an old minolta mc/md mount lens. u can try to get from ebay, but it might cost u rm800++..

ha, btw, 58mm f1.2 is hard to use in indoor shooting, especially in small room t-t
*
how bout the focus? is it fully manual focus or got auto focus as well?? RM800+ wooo... wouldn't 50mm f1.7 be cheaper?

QUOTE(Kul | Mo0 @ May 19 2009, 11:59 PM)
3.2k with kitlens. Not bad. Not so soon la. But soon also la. P.s my soon = at least 3 years. (:
*
I might be joining you with that 3 year plan... hehehe might la...

50-50 rolleyes.gif
if you are into birding, 500mm f/8 is the lens to go.. it's a mirror reflex lens tho, so it's light and the size is not too big.. but it'll produce a donut-shaped bokeh la laugh.gif
what new stuff?? unsure.gif
*
good thing I'm not into birding.. hehehe... btw, what does mirror reflex mean neways???

QUOTE(SoulPower @ May 20 2009, 12:31 AM)
Wanna buy my 1st lens, but cant afford to buy new lens so will get 2nd hand, need some advise from u guys. Please help me choose 1

1. SIGMA AF 70-210mm 1:4-5.6 MC Macro Lens (around RM380)
2. Minolta 70-210mm f/4 AF Lens Beercan (around RM900)

I believe beercan will be better but den might be off my budget. Is the Sigma AF 70-210mm can mount in A300? Any1 heard any issue about that lens? Try to google but cant find any review.
*
I'd go for the beercan... again I not the oh-so-wise word of this thread... "you get what you paid for"

QUOTE(dingenius3 @ May 20 2009, 12:37 AM)
try google up for that siggy gear stripping issue... maybe it listed...
many user dun really recommend siggy as it prone to haf problem with "focus ring" ?? issue...

that minolta beercan for sure la many demand.. but low in stock.. sweat.gif
*
what's that "focus ring" problem?

QUOTE(albnok @ May 20 2009, 10:49 AM)
Aiyaaa the Sigma 30mm F1.4 is not meant to be specifically a portrait lens.

It is a normal lens which gives you a angle that can be used for wide (if you turn to landscape orientation) or tele (if you turn to portrait orientation).

It is a bonus that the Sigma also lets you use F1.4 for low light. The shallow depth of field can also be used for portraits.

As for big-head portraits, do you mean close and wide, or far and cropped in? The latter is called a headshot.

50mm F1.4 on A900 (same angle as the 30mm F1.4 on APS-C.)

I am sitting opposite her at a small table. The angle is very comfortable to use when sitting down... normal typical portrait lenses like the 85mm-135mm range, require you to get up from your seat and stand further behind. The wall was right behind me!

Yeah man millenia3000 is handsome! LOL I just realized how miang dingenius3's avatar looks.

I don't like the feeling of Canon battery grips, it's a brick with a screw on it only, doesn't feel anything like the camera grip.
*
wah... really tempted with the 30mm F1.4... but also tempted by Minolta 50mm F1.7... need to start saving money for those 2...

wonder how Alpha battery grips feels like... haven't held one in hand before... later need to buy and then weigh them together... VG-B30AM vs BG-E3.. tongue.gif no holds bars

QUOTE(albnok @ May 20 2009, 12:36 PM)
soulfly, the exciting portrait lens that should be blistering wide open would be the Tamron 60mm F2.0 DiII Macro for APS-C cameras.

braindead_fr3ak, most people will upgrade from third-party flashes; the F42 can be triggered off camera (the pop-up flash must be raised to send the signal) for creative lighting effect.
*
bro albnok how about Tamron SP90? would that be a portrait lens or more to macro lens?

Achew, from your experience, is the SP90 good for portrait as well or better just keep it for macro??

ya kah? how come? any samples? somehow i prefer for the background to be blured so that can focus on the main subject(s)... and sometimes, during events, i really struggle when taking pictures in low light with the kitlens...

Somehow I prefer to use Photoshop instead... more flexible... never use lightroom before... usually just use the Sony software just to see the Exif data only... other than that, seldom use...

p/s: there's a review showing that 11mm on sony (tammy rebadged) is wider than 11m on siggy..
