albnok: Can the SAM feature compatible with A700? I would love to have the 50/f1.8 for my A700. I won Minolta 50/f1.7 but the MFD of the new lens is an advantage.
*
Waitaminute.... YOU WON? a Minolta 50mm f1.7??? So lucky... where?????? still got??? maybe other lens????

QUOTE(Kul | Mo0 @ May 18 2009, 09:09 PM)
Then what is the point having Af/MF switches on both lens and body?
*
Was thinking the same thing also... would it mean faster AF? or does the AF/MF switch on the Lenses switch on/off the SAM function??

Braynumb, the AF/MF switch just switches between AF and MF LOL.

Whether AF is using SAM, SSM or classic screw drive, is up to the lens.

v1rtual, I have often felt that the 50mm F1.4 (and F1.7) which can only focus to 45cm close, is a bit limiting. 34cm would be a lot more flexible.

The new SAM 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 DT can focus to 25cm close. This is a lot closer than the SAL 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT's 38cm!

Dang that sounds sweet... EEeeeee... poison la... hehehe...

i just want to ask here
is m42 lenses can be used with alpha dslr???
*
personal advice from me, only get a M42 lens IF you're using a300/a350(because you'll need the tilting screen) or a seasoned Photog... coz I'm using one now, and with my a200, It's really hard to focus with it... but the best thing is, It really forces you to really make sure all your settings are correct and subject(s) are in focus... But if you're willing to venture, then why not right?

bcos its cheaper to have m42 lenses..
and about the focusing .... maybe prove much troublesome
but if it used on large aperture shud it be simpler to focus????
*
that's why it would be easier if you're using a300/a350 coz of the tilt screen... I know it's cheaper, but the difficulties you run into when using with a200 is just too much... why don't you just invest in minolta lenses instead? the price is quite nice also... and the results are still beautiful... that's why now I'm more to hunting for minolta lenses... or, you can go for tamron/sigma... got nice price also what... as the saying goes in this thread, "you get what you paid for"...

yup.. constant aperture at all focal length..

not fixed aperture..

they do have that kind of lens like the 500mm f/8 reflex..

it's a prime 500mm, with a fixed f/8 brows.gif
*
waaaa... but don't think I'd find much use for a 500mm... so far 300mm is enough already... hehehe... but a fixed aperture is damn sweet tho... somehow kenot tahan for a beercan already... kena poison by bro ryzan76 tongue.gif
