In 2 weeks time I'll be shifting out cause of studies to a Condo that actually has a Gym. Yay for me because my previous problem was that there was no gym available for me. Ok, so the working out part not much problem, main problem is my nutrition versus money.

First of all, I don't know whether I'm lactose intolerant or not. I googled it and they say that if take too much milk will feel bloated. Yes I do feel bloated, but there is no discomfort or pain or farting. Will ON 100% work for me? I don't want to buy it for RM190 (this is really big amount for me) and then end up puking every time I drink.

Secondly, since I'm shifting out and staying away from my parents, food is another issue. I have to get all the food I need by myself. Currently, all I do is just chunk in all the meat my Mom cooks. But living outside, I might not be able to eat at regular times. Heck maybe I might be skipping breakfast or having late dinners depending on how busy my studies are. Would buying whey solve this problem? If I just drink this pre-workout and post-workout, would it be enough to gain weight?

A friend told me that whey is much cheaper than if I were to spend on the same amount of protein gained from cooked food. True?

On my resting days, should I still drink whey? Or save money by just drinking normal milk powder with oats?

One more thing, is there a cheaper whey that is effective as well? RM190 is kinda off my budget. I was expecting like RM100 or so. Do those protein drinks from pharmacies work? I remember seeing them like RM70 or so. Not sure they're for gaining weight or what, but there's a bodybuilder picture there.

Sorry if this looks like a bombardment of questions. I never thought of buying whey until now. I usually resort to my simple Fernleaf Milk Powder + Quaker Instant Oats for both pre-workout and post-workout, and I eat like a dog on every meal. Yet my weight is still stuck at 65 kgs.

I've been working out for quite long already. And I've been "focusing" on raw food for nearly 5 months. Yeah, chap fan everything tambah nasi tambah portion what also I add double.

And yes I do drink full cream milk everyday. About 1 Litre a day would work for me, I can't drink too much because I read somewhere that too much dairy products would actually cause pimples.

I'm pretty sure that its my metabolism. I really never care for my fat intake my whole life. Eat anything I liked and never grew fat.

Now all I want is to grow big. Now I'm quite lean, and I've got hard muscles everywhere. Sort of the athlete build. I want to bring my build to the next level. So, would whey help me bulk up?

Well well well , first of all buddy, u should have post this in bodybuilding thread instead of opening up a new one, similiar thread has been emerge and closed,. Anywhere to answer ur question, since ur goal is to gain weight so i assume that u wan to bulk.

TO BULK
-u need extra calories intake.
-supplement cant help u if ur diet is not proper.
-if u only eat 3 meals a day, trust me, u will be owas running ard at ur starting line. U wont go anyway. AGAIN take more calories, break it into 6 meals.
-eat 1g of protein to /lbs of ur bodyweight.
-Possible, Eat "real" food (eggs, meat, milk)

Can u take whey on non workout day?
- ask u a question, can u take meat on non workout day?
A friend told me that whey is much cheaper than if I were to spend on the same amount of protein gained from cooked food. True?

Erm... this is not the way u save ur money ><

By the way dude, try to read the sticky that we have it on our H&F for why u r not growing, diet plan and etc. There is bunch of infor for ur micro and macro intake needs.

I've already mentioned in my old topic there that I didn't notice the bodybuilding thread was seperated. It used to be discussed at the main topic. Which is also why I mentioned I'll be posting a new one here and that one should be ignored.

Yeah, read all the stickies.

Read that many times. Even that topic mentions use of whey if you don't have time to eat solid food before workout. Which could be my problem.

Cheaper protein source? Erm...

1 tub = 77 servings, 24g of protein per serving
1 tub = RM190
1 serving of 24g proteinĀ  ~RM2.47
RM2.47 ~ 8 eggs ~ 56g of protein

Eat more.

Eggs need some preparation right? Most of my college days I REALLY don't have time to prepare such breakfast. I normally just eat lots and lots of wholemeal bread with sliced Ham and Cheese. I think I said wrongly about the money part. My main problem is more to time where I can't prepare cooked food. I will have to mostly rely on Chap Fan and nowadays eating out is so darn expensive. I can almost spend RM10 per Chap Fan meal. That's where I'm comparing price : Whey to Outside food.

And guys I DO eat a lot. If according to that growth topic, I'm not growing because I very seldom go to a gym(no nearby ones). Almost 90% of my workouts do at home, which goes to another problem where home workouts have very little variation and if keep doing, your muscles will get too used to the strain.

So, basically I just want to plan out my nutrition when I start working out properly. Sorry if I'm sounding rude, having exam periods now and getting alot of stress here and there. sad.gif
Thanks so much for your advices too smile.gif

Which is why I'm saying that even time to hard boil the eggs also I can't squeeze in. But of course on days that I have time I would do it. Oh about waking up an hour earlier. Its tough when you gotta study till late at night, and then have another 8 hour class next morning. Sometimes I just have to grab as many hours of sleep as I can. Bodybuilding need good rest too right?

I wonder how you guys working already have time to do all this.
Worry whether you got workout enough or not and worry how much you're eating. Haha guess I have to change my time management abit

When I was at university, I worked like a poor f**** dog. Got kicked around by tutors and profs. Ridiculous schedule that leaves me no time to even visit a hairdresser. It was 24/7. I did that for 7 years.

Now that I'm working, I take leisurely dim sum breakfasts on weekends, work out at home 3X a week, go shopping on evenings, get pedicures, eat as much as I need, etc. Life is good.

Seems like working life has much more time compared to university life eh?
And they say uni life is the best and all dry.gif

I guess it really depends on the field you're studying or working. I'm doing Actuarial Science and even if the classes are little not as much as Accounting, the amount of things you have to self-study is hell. During my internship, the Actuarials of the company had to work their *** off overnights.

Back on topic, so far everyone here discouraged me from getting the whey. So I guess I'll take your advices mentioned. But then I think I'll still get the whey while pumping up my food.

Huh? Who are you referring to?
If its the previous poster above you, then yeah I guess he didn't read the sticky.
If its me, then yes I've done my search and still have questions.
Don't have to be so cold la brother smile.gif

Anyway, thanks for all your feedback guys. Really appreciate them.
I think I've made my decision to get the Whey. Don't worry I'll manage up my time and take up some tips you guys suggested.

I agree about being busy with studies and all but my advice is to forget about training if you're not dedicated enough to adjust your timetable. You're just wasting your time, energy and money for not being consistent and skipping meals.

Maybe this training is still new to you, like what I experienced when I started out 3 years ago, you feel uncomfortable changing your routine, but if I had to change one thing, I'd say I shouldn't have skipped breakfast for the first 2 years of training.

You seem to be very desperate in gaining weight. Trust me, you're not going to gain any weight overnight with weight gainers/protein powder. Gaining/losing weight is a long term process i.e. years, so you need dedication.

You also appear to be obsessed with whey like it's magic powder. You said you have a tight pocket, so you should spend more on solid foods. Like what Darklight would say: chicken breast > whey.

You said you eat like a dog on every meal, I want to ask how many meals you eat in a day?

Woah before you go hammering people's OLD topics, take time to read carefully.
Your whole statement sounds like you've only read the bolded part in your quote.
If you read carefully I mentioned : "In 2 weeks time". At the time of post I was merely about to shift out, which is my first time. I have no experience whatsoever living outside on my own, so I was worried as to how my diet is gonna be. I keep hearing students not eating well when they live outside, due to money issues.

Thankfully, it has been already 1 month+ living outside. I've adapted well, and I can easily access good cooked food around here.
Yes, I do eat like a dog, 5 meals a day isn't enough?
So, before you start saying stuff like wasting your time, do look carefully.

Oh and again another thanks to the rest of the repliers from a month before. I didn't get the Whey and going more to Meat, Eggs and Milk. I guess the most important is reaching your 3.3xBodyWeight amount of protein.
