ramz's right, unmodded is hassle-free.

I have a modded version, took me days to figure out what's going on in my Wii. And fixed it, yea. Now a pro, but took a long time to the point that I think I should be studying for exams instead of playing around.

Unless you are softmod-eager, stay away from modded ones. Discard the price gap, unmodded = Epic Win.

and it doesn't end there. when nintendo introduce another firmware update, u be doing the whole process again. u might not want to update, but the newer games will need the update else u can't play. don't think the wii is like ps2. ps2 mod is sap sap soi. ps3/xbox360/wii are newer generation consoles, and it is getting harder to mod, and it will get even harder in the future. So get use to it and buy orignal. don't expect to get free games anymore, that is old thinking.
*
Meh, that's what happened with NFS: Undercover, but we discovered that what we need was just some files. No firmware are currently a must-need for games and I don't think that is happening soon. Games uses I/O System Files (Which differ from firmware) wink.gif

Anyway, that is techy talk. And no kyo, still haven't updated and can't find a reason to. blush.gif blush.gif

PS: Wii-modding iz hard...

Also, heard that some unmodded consoles got BRICKED while updating. Weird no?

One more thing, imagine if the wii's processor use intel i7 , 80GB SSD and Nvidia gtx295 must be teh awesumoz rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

most, if not all games comes with a firmware update of a certain version. When game loads, it will check the system firmware version, and if it is earlier then firmware it has on disc, it will do a mandatory update. So it is a must need for wii games. but modders have done so much to workaround the mandatory update

i updated to 4.2 coz the wii shop doesn't work anymore for 4.1, then i notice a mail from nintendo, so wihtout thinking i update la. No problem also. But to be honest i don't notice any difference 4.2 brings beside making my wii shop work again. oh yes, one small thing, i notice that when u leave your game idle, the screen goes dark. this is definitely 4.2 coz i didn't notice it in 4.1
*
And that workaround is a main essence for modders so... yea, firmware no need for games.

Even in 3.2 the screen will be dark if you leave it idle.

The problem is, US Wiis are hard to find. And you still haven't added the mail cost and tax and everything. It would be cheaper, but it won't be worth the hassle.

pierreye, homebrew talk allowed? Cool 8D. It's not NAND 2, Boot2 lerh sweat.gif. And not all people can install bootmii into boot2. And Boot2 ain't the first boot sector, boot0 is. Boot0 loads boot1, which loads boot2, which loads boot3 (System).

I don't think we have NTSC 60 here? Do we? In any case pierreye, I am glad I'm not the only engineer here xP

I try to talk about homebrew here, got block weyh..

Yes, Bootmii is universal, but only on IOS. Bootmii as boot2, on the other hand, is only installable to those Wiis which is bought before mid 08' (Which, after the date, is when the boot0's bug is fixed).

Now let's just hope we aren't going to be deleted again..

Provided you also change the "Game Region" thing to US tongue.gif.

I think it's better to run Gecko instead of messing with the system files. Faster, no?

You has a point. My Wii is converted from JP to US when I bought it. Lucky the guy who sells it is my friend, didn't con me to refer it as "true original US Wii".

In any case, here's a full summary:

Gecko for non-permanent out-of-region disc loading

AnyRegion Changer for permanent system change. Still, you can only load games from the region you converted to.

Nah, the system's FULLY converted to US. When a US update is done, well, you're updated to whatever firmware (Or system files) that the disc has.

I don't do disc updates anyway, block them using Preloader (Not an "arrr" app).

for hassle free go unmodded. even if u plan not to update it will have some degree of hassle in the future (especially for latest games). visit sites like www.afterdawn.com and u see what i mean
*
afterdawn is overloaded with N00bs. Right now, the only, only problematic game is New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Others well, you just have to install some certain files which consists of easy method and even a child can do it.

Still, learning to softmod is beneficial. You can load games at a faster speed, "theme" your Wii, use emulators and so on.

1. no, a child can't do it. its not intuitive and automated. hey u are pimping your wii. how can pimping your wii be intuitive and automated?

2. NSMB is not the only problem. the people in afterdawn are facing problems unique to their setup. there are a million and one softmod setups, so your problem may be unique to only your softmod setup. so for example if your mario kart wii that does not work on your softmod wii, it doesn't mean it doesn't work on all softmod wiis.

3. even if u are talking about hardmod, its the same but to a lesser degree. there are many chips out there, and they all behave differently.
*
1. Intuitive? There's this one softmod which is assured automated. Does updating and else all automated. Just run and use.

2. There is not one million and one softmod setup. There isn't several "brands" of softmods I can assure you of that. And let me assure you this, if a game loads but doesn't work for your Wii and it's not DRE, it is the missing system files, which as I said, can be installed easily (Excluding NSMBWii of course).

3. Nope, not talking about hardmod here.

gundamalpha, because you can play out-of-region games (Let's see, Disaster: Day of Crisis, region exclusives, etc).

Arguments aside, I'm enjoying Little King's Story, but quite confused here. A question, does Howser intend to take over the King's throne? I heard he said something along the lines of "This land shall be mine........er......... ours!!"

if you soft mod there are only 2 reasons:
1. to play pirate
2. u want to do more on your wii
95% of them will be in the 1st category. i didn't do any survey on this. but i am pretty sure i am accurate.

if u hard mod there are only 2 reasons:
1. to play pirate
2. to play backups and other region games
99.9999% will be in the 1st category. again i didn't do any survey. but i am pretty sure i am accurate.
*
I can assure you I did this for reason 2, for both of them. Been wanting to play Disaster: Day of Crisis and wasn't hoping for a US release, so........ I don't really have "likes" for piracy anyway. Kills the gaming industry whistling.gif . In any case, here's what softmod can do:

1)Theme your Wii
2)Cuts a loading time of 15 seconds to mere 5 seconds
3)Emulators
4)PDF reading
5)Linux

And others, couldn't be bothered to list them all.

Bolds are my reply, just so you know.

>> so the people in afterdawn are all infants? coz if a child can do it, so if u have problems, u must be an infant
Can't really get you here. But no, people in afterdawn are not infants, just people who don't read. Try reading a few topics from GBATemp, that'll put those afterdawn people into shape.

>> missing system files are part of the softmod issues. installation of these files can easily be done by a child, but not by an infant.
I never said anything about infants. I said child, as in, a few years older than an infant. Also, in my statement, I never said anything about a child did I? And I was talking about the "one million and one softmod setup" there. Never said anything about softmod issues too. Just talking about how easy it is to fix if there's a problem running about
3. Nope, not talking about hardmod here.

>> so how do u get your other region games? let me guess, u order from PA? or u ask your friend in england to mail to u? or u go to england and get it yourself? or u download? my friends in NASA think u should just download.

A little bit of both. If my friend at London, Kyoto, nor Amsterdam, who are in college, by the way, (A few really existing friends) can't find it in the local stores, I hit up Play-Asia and see what I can find.

>>the point i am making is: please just leave the wii as it is. i know 90% of u out there just want to play games and not be hassled with all these modding crap issues. people who wants to pirate like to talk about modding (there are geniune modders too, but we have no issues with them). the ps3 is not a good console to mod coz u can't pirate. we want to see wii games on the shelves like the ps3. u go to a smalll town, you can find ps3 games, even 360 games got, but limited, but 0 (zero) wii games. Yes ZERO. that's how bad it is. freaking ZERO.

So you are saying that I am a pirate just because I like to talk about modding? PS3 can be modded, and if the chance comes and I have one, I shall mod it at ease, just for the sake of "doing more" on it.

hai, i think i am wasting my time talking. things won't change.
*
Things won't change alright. Unless Wii starts using a media that is very expensive to buy as blank (Blue-Ray) and puts some serious protection in there. But I do not care anyway, as I play genuine games. I just mod it so I wouldn't have to wait 15 seconds to load a small area in Rune Factory (Or wait for loading the canvas on Drawn To Life). Now loading at 3 seconds, yeah.

Nah, as you said, we are discussing. Yes, I am 14, quarter-depending on my mom to buy games and 3/4? Saving, part-time job, mini-business, other things.

Terasa a bit only, but after you explain, it's all good.

Guys, how much does used DS games sell for?

I check out the trade forums in LYN forums but not a lot of information there on used DS games or even new ones.

Cleaning up my room so putting some up for sale.
*
Do you have KH 358/2 days, by any chance? I'm looking forward to buy it but current cash is too low to get a first hand one.

Edit: Though I will never understand why people would want to put the game into secondhand sale, it's just too good to be handed over nod.gif nod.gif

No piracy here. The software is called Pimp My Wii (Yea, I know). Just run, and choose "Pass test and fix problems", and the thing will check for errors, and fix them.

DRE (Disk Read Error).

Installing the missing files are easy. Just run Pimp My Wii and you're set. That or you could do some manual job.

Haven't heard of bad reviews anywhere but, I guess you should just stick to Nintendo's.

Because, back when Motion + was out, Mad Catz had to roll an update to the motes. But you have to send it there, and wait for it to get updated.

Mod the frigging thing lah tongue.gif. Can do more to your Wii some more.

Anyway, I'm finally back. Dumb Streamyx. Made my internet inter-mitten (On, off, on, off) for a few weeks.
