I was about to set a purchase on Wii and the shop owner told me that there are two hardware spec currently available in the market.

An older model would cost me about 700+ while the one that's newer and supposedly comes with better graphical resolution will cost way more. And the only way to differentiate this is the model number ending with the number (1). Can anyone confirm if this is true?
*
There are no 2 different hardware specs for Wii, only regions. The Wii can support up to 480p resolution, but you'll need to use a component cable which is sold seperetely (you'll get a composite cable along with the Wii).

In any case Wikipedia is a good place to start researching about Wii.

actually, you should try checking out Nintendo's site yourself. I remember they only take in WEP, but you should take a check.

I messed with the Wii system menu before and I remember seeing the WPA option in the Wi-Fi settings. But just to be sure......

Yup, WPA and WPA2 supported. tongue.gif

wow, this is great news, indeed, 150myr cheaper, at least, wow

Remember it's just a rumour. Nintendo loves to sell things at max profit, and they never sell consoles/ handhelds below cost price like Sony and MS. sad.gif

hi, can i save the save game or profiles in sd card or usb thumb drive?
*
Yes you can transfer Wii save files to SD card, but not all games allow you to transfer the saves (Pokemon Battle Revolution for example).

Just giving a heads up that Maxsoft for some weird reason started sending out their official Wii in UAE packaging. Everything inside should be the same as the NTSC (US) version.

sorry for being a pain. cant read much...my monitor is all fuzzy.

what sort of connections can Wii use? HDMI? S-Video? gonna get a new monitor tomolo and need it to be compatible with Wii.

thanks
*
Composite (default cable that comes with the Wii)
Component
S-Video
D-Terminal

Composite cable can only output at 480i while the others 480p. But 1st party cables made by Nintendo themselves are very hard to find, but there's always 3rd party cables to the rescue. smile.gif

The only thing that can stop you from pirating games is your conscience, not copy protection.

Why do you need a PS3 to play original in the first place? All consoles and handhelds are already intended to be used with original softwares. :/

agreed...

not only hard to find 2nd game, but 1st hand game oso...
really limited shop selling ori Wii games
and all of them are taking from MMSoft. So wat ever title MM dont have, we will nvr have it too. Unlike Singapore, they take from various distributors.

Wii unmodded really dont suit hardcore gamers in Malaysia.

wat i do? buy a dancing game, give the wii and the game to my GF, and i buy PS3  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif  rclxm9.gif

M.M Soft (Malaysia official distributor) = Maxsoft (Singapore official distributor)

Looks like their official website is back up:

If I were you, I definitely won't update the firmware via the online update or I'll get the infamous 003 error. Perhaps the forumers here can teach you how to update safely, or you can usually ask the shop you bought your Wii from to perform the update (for a fee of course).

Anyway please use the main thread below, I'll merge this thread with it later when I'm back from work. To the others be kind to him ok? laugh.gif

Well if you look at the market in Malaysia, you can pretty much assume that his Wii is a transsexual Korean set. XD

It's something to do with the firewall on your wireless router. You may have to manually input your DNS server address.

I have a Nintendo Wii and it's been really fun playing games on it. However I'm quite annoyed that I can't upgrade it if I want to use Homebrew Apps. So I after much research and trial and error I've finally found a solution.

I managed to get the Wiimote working with Windows 7 32 bit. And I can play the Wii games I rip off the DVDs. The best part is this is completely brick proof and region free. It's all legal because there is not agreement signed before you play a game saying you need to play a game on a real Wii console or you can't play games outside the region they are sold. Wii games runs flawlessly on my laptop, which of course I hook to a TV. So now I can use my laptop to play Japanese games and game needing updates which could brick my Wii console, which I can use to experiment Homebrew stuff on.

And all this is completely LEGAL, so don't shoot me back with the no piracy stuff. You buy original games and play it on the PC.
*
If you read the instruction manual that comes with the game it clearly stated that "backup" or "archival" copies are not authorized and thus it's still illegal to rip the games from the original DVDs.

- off topic from current mod discussd issue -

is it possible to change the player controller  (eg from player 1 to player 2, vice versa)

since i always left one controller in the gh guitar (too lazy 2 take it out).. whenever i change from other game to gh has to turn off wii since cannot play solo guitar sngle player when the guitar is detctd as 2nd player...

understand or not? haha
*
Yes, you can. Just press the Home button and disconnect the controllers via the Wii Remote option, then reconnect them again by pressing the 1 and 2 button at the same time (the one that connects first will become Player 1 and so on).

FYI, even if it is a legit US/Jap disc, a korean wii still requires the use of neogamma if he wishes to play it...or the usb loader method smile.gif

So ppl..next time better opt for a US wii if u dunno what to do
*
Yes I know that, that's why I asked him to post here instead of creating a new thread (imagine all the Korean Wii buyers have the same problem).
