then just go into the Wii Options and set country to any of those in Americas (North, South, Central)... some people prefer Brazil from start to end LOL

i personally set it to United States and only switch to Brazil when necessary...

worse case scenario, you can always buy just the US version of Wii Fit Plus game disc if you already have the Balance Board.

if the Korean board was original it would have come with a korean version wii fit disc. ( i have one but unable to use it LOL ... just wanted the board )

if your wii console is really unmodded ... it's really amazing that the seller can guarantee it will play a supposedly NTSC-J region disc ! anyway good luck on the promise.

btw, your description of the "removing the mods" sounds fishy ... as the HDD would not be useful thru the Wii if it is not soft modded. i doubt they would be selling everything at a normal price by the sound of things ...

good that u decided on the US original wii ... no hassle, no worries smile.gif

Today I spend the whole afternoon in JB local game shops and finally I found one shop is selling unmodded wii console. Bought a red NTSC-U  New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle and a Wii Fit Balance Board bundle; I myself would like a NTSC-J Wii to play Japanese exclusive titles but this Wii is meant for my wife and kids who don't read Japanese so I'll just go with it. My bad was I didn't check properly on the Wii Fit and bought a Korean version of Wii Fit Balance Board bundle which suppose to be NTSC-J version... sad.gif but the shop seller keep saying that she guarantee can play and mutually agree would exchange to a playable version if really can't play...  hopefully she'll keep her promise.
Anyway, when I was asking around, some game shop told me the soft-modded Wii cosole they are selling can be unmodded by just uninstalling all the hacks (and the shop will do it for me), is this even possible? If possible then it'll be a very good deal to get those modded set because for a merely RM100 you get a 500GB HDD and an extra set of Wii Remote + Nunchuk (claimed to be original). But again when I looked at those consoles which they claimed to be NTSC-U Wii are in fact Korean sets (serial no. start with "LK").
Anyway, I got my unmodded set and now waiting for my boy to wake up from his nap to unpack the console (he was over excited therefore fall asleep in the car when we were going home). Next step is to look for ori. game sellers smile.gif

firstly the Wii Sports and NSMB game was part of the official bundle so i don't see why you are happy enough just to have it ! it was SUPPOSE to be YOURS !

the red Wii bundle should have been on firmware version 4.3U originally so it means the system menu has also been downgraded to 4.0U ... god knows if they've screwed up something while doing that downgrade ... it's not necessary a process ppl want to do while softmodding unless really familiar with the pros/cons

may not be so but i won't be surprised it's bcos of them leaving some files not updated correctly or incorrect version combinations in there that is causing a problem like yours in running the original NSMB game.

it is possible for them to put a hack to avoid disc and online updates of system firmware so that may be the reason y u never get prompt or can't do online update. i won't name the app but it's something that loads prior to the system menu boot process.

as for "unmodding" it i think you're taking unnecessary risk on something which is not your fault but it's up to u i guess. if u can't unmod it ... there is bound to be problems with other games too so just be prepared to spend some time figuring out how to get them to work.

we haven't even start talking about some other features eg. Wii Shop (virtual console/wiiware/free apps), Nintendo Channel, Opera Browser which u can easily enjoy and download without hassle if it was unmodded.

all in all ... if possible i would go with Kyo's suggestion ... don't touch anything that is not working and just exchange or refund it. while waiting for weekend .. just play watever works for now tongue.gif

Damn, I've been cheated!!! Last night I only setup the newly bought red wii for my kids to play game and guess what I found? Homebrew channel, USB loader, NeoGamma etc. It is a soft-modded wii all along!!!
Good thing is I still get the Wii Sport and New Super Mario Bros. games bundled. Now my problem is:

1) Can I reverse the mod back to ori? Any good tutorial? All tutorial I found online is telling people how to mod/hack but when get asked how to remove nobody gives a damn and ask back "Why would you want to remove the mod/hack?".

2) My system firmware is 4.0U, and when I play NSMB the Wii will crashed; check online to find that NSMB need firmware update. The NSMB disk didn't update my system at all. Why? I thought the disk should have the necessary update.

3) I tried to perform system update via wireless, and keep getting Error Code: 32004. I've check my internet connection, the connection is good and I don't have firewall setup except for the Windows Firewall. So how do I update? Or is it the soft-mod blocking system update?

4) Now if I can't unmod the Wii, but I stick to original NTSC-U game only what problem would I face?

although this is possibly not the detail you are looking for, the difference between mod and original Wii is :- one is factory made and stays that way while the other may have been "tampered" in a variety of ways that lets it perform things that it shouldn't be able to in the first place.

this forum is not the place to go into those things mentioned latter. (for those who like to argue about "it may be for homebrew what? ok, fine.. happy?)

if you take away all these things that was not suppose to be possible then the things to know is very simple:-

1. there are 3 region/model of original Wii consoles sold worldwide. JP(NTSC), US(NTSC), AUS/UK (PAL). the "official Asia model" sold in MY/SG can be considered region capability-wise same as US(NTSC).

2. each region/model can run only those games release originally for their region. eg. to play Lego Star Wars on a US Wii ... u need Lego Star Wars US game. again Asia model ... use US version game

on a side note, the power adaptor that comes with US machine is 110V ... you'll need a step down if you get that model. problem is solved if you get official Asia model as it comes with 220V power adaptor.

hi guyz , i been flipping through some of the pages here and i still dunno exactly wat's the different between mod n ori , can someone kindly explained to me ?

the differences between

1) mod

2) ori

3) region ??? confuse with this

4) games ? there is different for mod n ori ?

Added on May 10, 2011, 3:27 pmlooking at the type of question and possible seller you are dealing with that gives that sort of utterly wrong information i'd suggest you don't get a modded Wii. btw, all original un-tampered Wii consoles are region specific. they only run games that was released for that specific region.

for peace of mind, find a reputable seller here (i'm sure he'll appear soon in this post) and get official/original if you are really interested in the console.

QUOTE(sherlyn20 @ May 10 2011, 01:21 PM)
hi i would like to purchase a modded WII however what's the things i should note while purchase? the seller told me WII come with harddisk is older version and without harddisk is new version is that true?

how about region locked WII? if a korean WII can we play US game? the seller said the WII fit is japanese version, is that i should buy an english version better?

latest price cut only in effect from 15th May -> http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2011-0...rice-drop_n.htm

have not seen any links that list the latest USD149 Wii bundle (with Mario Kart and wheel - no Wii Sports SKU) with available stock for shipping.

this should be the RM500+ wii sports resort bundle you were referring to - http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Hardware-Bundle-...=dp_ob_title_vg

The normal price in US now is RM500+ with Wii Sports Resort right?

latest is version 4.3 . the region will be indicated based on the character right after the version number. 'U' for US, 'J' for JP and 'E' for PAL regions
steps to check wii menu version -> http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/w...ystemUpdate.jsp

Wii System Menu and Feature Updates -> http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/w...enuFeatures.jsp

assuming it's original (non-modified) Wii console, yes ... some newer games require newer official updates before they can be played.

QUOTE(epsonstylux @ May 30 2011, 12:51 PM)
hi guys. what is the latest firmware for wii? mine is 3.2 i think.
any disadvantages for the new firmware? if new game comes out, it is like psp? some new games only works with the newest firmware

plus, how do i know if i have PAL or NTSC wii? in malaysia i believe we use NTSC right?

Wii U will be compatible with Wii games and all current crop of accessories. they only dropped support for Gamecube compatibility.

that might also mean the region locking saga will continue !

the Wii console has been released since Nov 19, 2006 ... so it's not surprising that a new Nintendo home console is scheduled for release.

in fact, you'll see the final bits of info about Wii U at E3 (ard June) 2012. Nintendo is currently saying it will be released between E3 2012 till end of 2012.

it has been stated (so far) that Wii U will be able to play Wii games (backward compatible) but i believe you'll understand that there will definitely be a cost difference between the new and current console.

anyway, there's a great deal of games oredi out for Wii and there may still be a few gems till Wii U's arrival (or even beyond) ... so if you can get a good price for a Wii machine ... y not.

good luck.

Dear wii owners out there.. i'm planning to buy wii for quite sometime already but after going around, i was informed that nintendo is already slowing down on games production, meaning most of the game outhere r last seasons game.. well we cant 100% belief seller because some time they just say things because they want u to buy something else..
so wanna ask and clarify with wii owners, is it true nintendo is coming out with a newer version, one that would totally make the old one obsolute and is it true games r runing short these days? do comment and advice.. thanks!!

assuming it's a US model Wii that you are getting from USA ... then you'd need a step-down in order to use the bundled AC adapter which will be rated at 100V.

or if you are fine with using a 3rd party AC adapter which works with 220V (what we use in M'sia), get that and use it instead of the US Wii's AC adapter.

Just wondering, if I get one from US, can I use it in Malaysia?

just to add ... you can access the Wii Shop channel by setting a US region in the system options BUT

you may have to get Wii points thru the US point cards already. they may have blocked adding points thru non-US credit cards (like what they did on the 3ds e-shop).

QUOTE(Kyoyagami @ May 18 2012, 09:56 AM)
RM 25.

For the Wii Shop, just go ahead and change it to US. it still works.

And yes, the firmware for the official Malaysian one is also US.

i think by saying UK can use ... they are just thinking about the compatibility of the AC's voltage. UK's AC adapter is rated like M'sia (220-240V).

but getting US region machine is generally better bcos it plays US/NTSC region games. UK plays PAL region games which is not easily found here.

QUOTE(qtee @ May 18 2012, 09:43 AM)
As we check with the shop in US, there were saying Malaysia cannot use it due to the region issue, but UK can.
While reading from this thread, I understand that Malaysia Official Wii is US region, right? so a bit confuse here.
Thanks.

these days nothing much is newly released on Wii Shop channel (probably focused on future Nintendo Network for WiiU and possibly integrated in 3DS later)

Wii Shop has :-

- some free apps eg. Nintendo Channel (latest game news and tidbits), Internet Channel (internet browser), etc
- Virtual Console games (pay to download game from classic consoles eg. NES, SNES, etc
- Wii Ware games (original new/modern downloadable games)

since Malaysia/Singapore/Asia Pac Wii is still basically a US system (with US firmware) .. it works exactly same way. you'd have to choose a US/Americas region for the country/region setting in the system options to access Wii Shop.

there is no 'Malaysia' in the system option for country/region setting to select anyway. nearest available is 'Singapore' but with that ... you cannot access Wii Shop either.

QUOTE(qtee @ May 18 2012, 11:13 AM)
sorry, what can we buy from the Wii Shops arr?
and how frequent you guys buy from there?

so if i buy malaysia one, I got no issue with the Wii Points?
