you are never too old...unless you are 120 years old la. Violin is more popular and is cheap to buy beginner violin.

Cello is far more mahal to buy..even beginner Cello.

if you willing to pay 4 times more for a cello...then its ok. About string instruments....the bigger they are...the more mahal they are. Makes sense...because more wood and effort are needed to make bigger instruments.

i guess that makes sense. but only for beginner stuff.

if u go for the professional stuff, i think a good violin could cost more than a cello biggrin.gif

For people with music background e.g. Grade 8 piano, it's much easier to learn. For those without, it may take much longer, and violin is a much more sensitive instrument as compared to non stringed instruments, that's why if not played properly, you get weird sounds, and that's definitely not music to our ears.

I personally find cello harder to play than violin, especially the livelier songs. I think the cheapest cello you can get also around 1.5k, it's bulkier, difficult to bring around, and difficult to keep. I would suggest that you start with violin first, and see how far you can go, then perhaps you can try cello later.

And for the lessons, I'm not too sure about the current market price, and it depends on where you learn as well. Mostly around RM 70 for beginner I think...

personally i like violin more, so i'm biased. violin, to me, smaller, easier to carry around, higher pitch (my ears love higher pitch). cello is also very nice, but it's more of a lower register instrument, although still can play melody but that require quite a bit of skills cause you're going to play high up on the strings. one more thing i love about violin is that it's more common to play all kinds of genres for violin than cello, like folk/country/bluegrass/celtic, even pop, rock and jazz. not that you can't play with cello, but it's more common for violin.

kheechun is right, cheap instrument is harder to produce a good sound, and is generally give you a not so pleasing lessons due to the inferior sound. i started off my violin with a rm1500 violin, for cello it's almost double for the same quality. and i already have grade 8 piano, so learning violin is pretty easy.

anywhere you go is roughly the same. it's just that, half an hour doesn't include theory class. it's the same as piano lessons, half and hour theory, half and hour piano. it's not common for violin teacher to teach theory.

violin lessons are generally much higher because of the great demand and less supply. most of the pianist will teach, but most of the violinist don't teach, because most violinsts are performers and mostly play in orchestra and gig'ing around. playing in orchestra is a stable job, extra income isn't quite necessary, and many violinists rather gig than teach if need more income.

Most of the music classes like guitar, piano are very short. Because the teacher only teaches you the theory, basics, some useful tips & maybe some homework. Because what you need to do is to practice. You wanna practice during the class ? rclxub.gif For me, I practice guitar at least 4 hours & above per day sweat.gif Your teacher no need teach other students already loh shakehead.gif

some private tutors might teach for 1hr but not many.. blush.gif
