Arnold was quite tall.
I did not get shorter from weightlifting. I'm 6 feet.
In fact, weightlifting would encourage growth.
So tell your sisters that they are bullshitting you. Also, do a search on the forums.

Everyone here's too nice and polite. I'll be more brutal. Your sisters are idiots. Tell them to do more research. Good luck in your training. Feel free to ask anyone for advice here.

Nope. If people were to be stunted by weights, you would probably see a lot more stocky athletes in the Olympics and such.
PS: I actually LOLed at darklight's response.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
You've got to be kiddin', right?!
Muscles harden and prevent bones from growing? You seriously don't believe that muscles can be harder than bones, or do you? Well, unless you're a corpse in the midst of rigor mortis.
Resistance exercise stimulates your body to secrete growth hormones (GH). GH, like what its name says, makes you grow (taller [if you're still in puberty] and bigger)
If that doesn't make you taller [if you're still in puberty], I don't know what will.
And your sisters didn't pay attention during science class, did they? =P
