First AH1N1 update, detailing steps and precautions I've taken towards making sure this NYC trip remains healthy and virus-free.

Got flu vaccination shot at the MAA in Kelana Jaya today, only for frontliners , supplied by Novartis. Conditions were at least 48hours before the next flight, and not allergic to egg- or egg byproducts. Jab on the shoulder, and was advised that due to the reaction by the body itself, may vary from slight mild temperature rise to am actual fever itself, as the body scrambles to produce antibody to combat the flu virus. The vaccine itself is of course a modified flu-virus, designed to encourage production of antibody within the injected person. That way, it provides self-immunity, but only definite immunity towards the flu-virus on which that vaccine is produced from. This is not a vaccine for the AH1N1, I'll still be susceptible to the virus and flu itself if I dont maintain a clean hygienic practices like washing hands before/after eating, and most importantly. not to poke your fingers into your nose/eyes/mouth that would allow transmittal of drop infection of the virus.(Carrier sneezes, or wipes nose, fluid from sneeze or runny nose gets onto your fingers, and you poke it into those cavities where fluid transfer is possible).

Next AH1N1 update will be once I'm in Stockholm, as we prep for Stockholm-NYC sector. Hopefully the info provided may help others in demystifying the flu itself, or help in any other way.

Added on May 23, 2009, 3:06 amOT: To Dawn, this is the series that is projected to replace Lost on ABC once it ends in 2010. "Juliet" , a.k.a Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost is featured prominently in this, so like I said before, she would not survive the hydrogen bomb in the Season 5 finale.

Don't forget the NYC sales tax (8.375%)...

stringfellow, the Grado sponge pads may not be available at B&H, it's a wild guess if you're midtown at B&H. Come to think of it, J&R will probably have it, not B&H. The tiffen stuff are camera filters for the lenses, small stuff about as big as a coaster.
*
Good info, thanks bro. I suppose if I show the list you made to the guys at B&H about the Tiffen stuff, they'd know? I'm going to both B&H and J&R. Armed with the NYC subway map downloaded from iTunes Apps Store, getting lost is a worry of the past. tongue.gif

Dude, carrying around a subway map is so touristy  brows.gif Real New Yorkers stand in the subway and look at the map there over people's heads biggrin.gif

Anyway, I included the B&H part numbers for the Tiffen filters so the B&H guys will know. If you're not sure then don't worry about it, I'll get them the next time around.

I'm using the Grado SR60 btw, so the original flat pads would be great. However I checked both B&H and J&R websites and neither stock them. I don't suppose you're going out to Brooklyn to get earpads so again if they're not available then no worries.

Finally, I want to see pictures of Great Adventure!!! biggrin.gif Thanks stringfellow!

LOL, the map is on the iPhone, so I'll look like I'm checking my messages or something. tongue.gif As being a real NYer, hopefully not the rude kind. tongue.gif The NY Subway can be creepy sometimes.

I'll so what I can on the Grado pads. Can't really squeeze in Brooklyn into the trip, not enough time. cry.gif

You'll get more than pictures, I'm bringing my Xacti! HD GAdv baby! I'll upload the clip, both HD and SD while I'm in Stockholm before returning to KL. rclxm9.gif

Yeah, that's one of the shortlisted title I'm planning to get. "Rendezvous with Rama" and the "Time Odysses" series, and as many Isaac Asimov and Gene Wolfe books I can get my hands on should complete it. biggrin.gif

Tish bro, BHPhoto is closing early on the 28th (2pm) and closed on 29th and 30th. That news is posted on their webpage. MH90 arrives at 1030, and by the time I'm ready to dash out of the hotel, it would already be 1pm already. I'll try my best, but I fear time may not be on our side. sad.gif

To Neekun and Rawn, hunting for your items will be on the 30th. I'm heading down to Park Row near Ground Zero for J&R Music Store for Rawn's items, and on 7th Avenue to check out the southside branches that sells BuiltNY sleeves. This may also the venue to look for Tishaban's and Hanzx Grado spongepads as B&H Photo Video is closed until Monday. Stay tuned.

On a not-related note tongue.gif, weather is foul in NYC today, micro-drizzles around, keeping things damp. But I dont know if it a spot-a-celeb-day in NYC, because I saw FOUR of them around Manhattan today! Rub shoulder with Julia Roberts as she was crossing the street southward along Fifth Avenue with a shopping bag in hand, "Lt. Ellen Ripley"'s Sigourney Weaver was shopping at Sak's and Co, and of all people, John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston at Apple Store Fifth Avenue! Eyes went bug-eyed from all these sightings, but these folks are cool with the attention, in fact almost taking things cool like normal New Yorkers.

Broadway's closed along 47th St. as chairs are laid for folks to relax around the Flatiron and Times Square area. Radio City Hall near 30 Rock (Rockefeller Plaza) are filled with purple robes graduates from the Hunter College of The City University of New York. Also went to the Nintendo World Store, but after looking at their selection of games, and price, Gamestop is surprisingly cheaper!

As for me, bought these:-

Amazon Kindle 2 with matching leather cover, EA Active Wii, inFamous PS3 with Unchartered 2 demo, Bionic Commando PS3, Patapon 2 and USD100 worth of iTunes Gift Card. Pics to come later.

It was gloomy bro, with drizzle and all. I duwan to risk the iPhone kena masuk water. tongue.gif Pray weather gets better on 30th.

1:44am here. Less than 6 hours....Six Flags Great Adventure!

Added on May 29, 2009, 3:06 pmAH1N1 Update: The weather here is not helping, being drizzly and damp most of the time. New Yorkers however do not care. No masks in sight, but surprising, during my shopping walk yesterday, not a sneeze heard. Maybe even the NYers are immune to the not-so-hygienic conditions of the Big Apple? 3 schools in Brooklyn and Queens was however closed due to swine flu scare but they are opening today(Fri.). Personally, other than the chill around here, feeling fine. So AH1N1 = meh?

Rawn/Ron,

To the rest, I've received your messages of request AFTER I left NYC, so I'm afraid the items on request aren't possible to get.

AH1N1 Update: Nobody is sick, and not a single soul on NYC care enough to wear a freaking mask. Nobody was sick on the crew side as well, even while we all had mingled around in crowded areas in Fifth Avenue and Woodbury Commons. *shrugs*

Tish bro, pics and videos of Six Flags Great Adventure to come. Awesome deal from NJ Transit includes transport from Newark Penn, return as well, plus the admission ticket for USD47. Crowd was thin enough for me to get to all the rides, but unfortunate the main reason why I was here, the Kingda Ka was closed for maintainance. cry.gif

Superman Ultimate Flight.

Bizarro's after waterspray-to-inversion, and the flamethrower!

A taste of the next-door Safari Park.

The view across the lake towards El Toro, the mammoth wooden coaster, and the tallest and fastest coaster on Earth, Kingda Ka.

Six Flags Great Adventure's latest new addition, the Bizarro. Originally called the Medusa, they chopped off the flooring, making it floorless, add side speakers on each side of the seats, and adds THREE water spray misters and a flamethrower along the ride. Freaking awesome! thumbup.gif

Bizarro's Point-Of-View (POV) of how it looks like when you ride at the front.

Superman Ultimate Flight POV. Chicken-shit need not apply. tongue.gif

The King of Rollercoasters: The Kingda Ka. Wipe your ass on the way out, coz you may have soiled yourself. laugh.gif

Junkie I am. sad.gif If others need to get their fix on booze, girls or WoW tongue.gif, my sole weakness is adrenaline.

Just arrived today at 0710. Not a soul in sight at the airport wearing masks, I guess the AH1N1 scare is wearing off.

Rawn boss, I departed NYC on the 31st arrived in Stockholm back on the 1st. Stayed in Stockholm until 2nd, and depart the same day and arrived today.

Just woke up in fact. Rollercoasting takes a toll on the body, but the natural high is indescribable. wub.gif

Everyone on this Kirim, stay tuned, I'll arrange your pickups privately via PM later. Or if you like, call me. We can arrange it that way.

Okay guys, here's the deal. I'm planning the pickups and refunds by today, and was already PMing half of you guys for the details on how and where to do so, when a call came in at 1600.

A call from office, and a few minutes later a call from MAS Medical Center. Yup, you guessed it. There was a detected AH1N1 case on MH091 coming back from Stockholm, which before that, the same flight number from New York..

So I leave it to you guys. I am off today and tomorrow, but I may or may not be a carrier. If I turn any of you guys into zombies or anything, it is not my fault if you guys decides to want to meet up for your pickups and/or refunds.

Personally I feel fine, but to be perfectly clear of any doubt, the onus is one me getting myself checked up at MAS Medical.

So the choice is yours. At the time being, nobody has called or place me on house quarantine or anything so a meetup for your pickup is still possible. But the risk is still there, since I'm part of MH091 persons-on-board makeup. I leave it to you.

Not a problem, we knew about the price disparity. The staff were oblivious mostly because of the "Z" fare tickets and the 90% discounts on all flights we get, not to mention the free tickets every year to any MAS destination. For normal passengers, of course the need to look into the price difference is prudent.
