i do weddings and use sb600 a lot.. feels that 100+ shots with sb600 is no prob..

i take like 30-40 shots..then rest like 3-4 minutes..then continue again ..no prob.. it's not like you're taking every pic at full power..

*trying* to keep my budget low by getting a 2nd hand, it's either that or i get a d90 smile.gif
if you ask around and read reviews, you will discover that d40 is a very capable model. compared to d60, d40 has higher sensitivity -> faster shutter speed (or something to that effect tongue.gif)... google it if you dun believe me smile.gif

but tks so much for the suggestion  biggrin.gif  any idea when it's due to be launched in Msia?
*
maybe because the 1/500 flash sync speed which is wowzers for a beginner dslr.

hi there,

i haven't buy yet. i'm still scouting around for prices. the best shop offers me RM2980 with bag, 4G SDHC, tripod, screen protector and UV filter. is that a good buy? my friend knew the owner of foto flash... let's see whether my friend can help me get a better price.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
yeah.. it is quite normal.. nod.gif

seriously im surprise here
3 months ago nobody seems to be interested with D5000
n many criticize it, saying its not worth
now sudddenly within few weeks increase so many users?
jz curious...
*
easy...this is d5000 thread what.. if you go canon 500D or D90 or other threads of coz got many people criticize it.

and another reason is because it is very very difficult to find a new D40 model. even d60 is becoming less now.

Guys, i want to buy a diffuser for my SB-600. Do you guys know roughly how much for cap ikan brand and good one brand? thumbup.gif Maybe going to Foto Selangor or YL Pudu.. blush.gif
*
around rm25-30 only..cap ikan and branded ones are of the same quality..trust me..same performance.. unless you're going for coloured gels/diffusers, then branded ones perform better..

Does this mean D5000 not good? sad.gif Cos I'm thinking of getting one..

nope..its not like that..

it just means that the early production batches have faulty circuit boards or something..

u just need to buy the ones that is not faulty by checking out the serial numbers

how do we determine which is faulty batch? what should we look out for in the serial no? what will happen if we didnt send for service? ohh my... now i'm scared. should or shouldn't i buy a D5000? or should just get a 500D instead.
*
check some 500D VS D5000 on the net..

another thing that u should take note is the price of nikon & canon flashes.. Nikon SB600 is around rm 790-800 whereas Canon's equivalent is 430EXII which is RM1000+

even the top of the line nikon SB900 is rm16xx and top of the line canon 580EXII is rm17xx

i just like the "white look" of most of canon higher end lenses.. most high end nikon's are black which is just normal..

most canon normal lenses starts at 24/28mm which is not wide enough.. take note that canon has 1.6x magnification which is a bit higher than 1.5 on nikons...which means it's not good for u la..

nikon general lenses starts at 18mm which is very very nice la..wide enough for most people.. 24/28mm is not wide enough on a dx format dslr like d5000, d90, 500D, 40D etc..

specs wise maybe 500D body is better but u also need to take into account the price/performance of accessories, flash & lenses for that certain brand too.

i tot Nikon high end lenses r black with gold rings?
*
i'm not referring to the rings la... blink.gif

gold RINGS for nikon
red rings for canon
blue/silver for olympus
gold/green for pentax..

im not talking about the rings.. im referring to the colour of the body.. most pro lenses for nikon are black...while canon have their trademark white colour..nice to look at rather plain old black..

another more important thing is of coz that..

before i had a d90..i got a d60 around april or so, and i was trying out canon 1000D, A200 and D60. the d60 has a better built quality and it feels better and much sturdier in my hands

the canon has a smooth cheap feeling
the sony is the heaviest of the three but still the i dont like the feeling of holding it..

try and hold a D3000 (it's available i think) it has a bigger screen but cant be flipped

just my opinion..u have to try it out yourself.

Anyone using custom made/ self made flash bouncer/diffuser?
I attached a calculator cover on my flash using rubber band (the cover of those scientific calculator) and stick white A4 paper inside the cover. However , the light is not bounced nicely, i think it's because A4 paper is not reflective enough to bounce most of the light.

Any alternative to it? I don't want to buy DFD pro or diffuser, I am finding some alternative ways...
*
tried A4 paper before..not good..

i tried many kinds of alternatives.. for macro /close up diffuser it's okay to make one, but if you want a general use diffuser a diy just wouldnt cut it because it's slow to attach, big, cumbersome..no good for weddings because u need to move around fast and easy

i'll post what i did later..use something like a foam material..not polystyrene. okay but not durable and not fast enough to adjust / attach & detach

Yea, got it..lazy to custom make things, so just get 1.  tongue.gif

same like you also..hehe .. but i just use a normal diffuser..

the sony f58 flash is a reallllyy good poison because of the way it flips and u can just use the built in white card when in portrait orientation...man.. u should check it out.. i hope that nikon does something like that..

Image wise...D40 is an improved version of D70s. Controls... D70s wins.

but physically d70 is bigger and has better grip right?

d5000 with 500d , which 1 too choose?
*
Decide on these aspects:

1. The feel when you yourself hold it in your hands
2. The price, quality, versatility or the lenses, flashes & accessories of that certain brand/system.

e.g. Nikon SB600 (RM800) EQUIVALENT TO Canon 430EXII = (RM10xx)
e.g. Most Nikon lenses start at 18mm. Most Canon lenses start at 24/28mm
e.g. D40/D60/D5000 do not have built in motor so you need to buy AF-S lenses to autofocus. All Canon digital slr lenses can be used on all their dslr bodies which is good.
e.g. Current top of the line lenses: Nikon AFS 600mm VS Canon 800mm USM.

But the most important thing is for the dslr to be comfortable when you use it. Go and hold it both in your hands.

*
hmm if i were you i would sell the siggy.. if im not mistaken, the siggy at 200mm is f/6.3 which is SLOW.
